Bad River Wilderness

4 sites · RVs, Tents60 acres · Mellen, WI
Update: This property was just awarded 2nd place for 2024 as the 2nd best Hipcamp in Wisconsin out of 252 Hipcamp's based on reviews and ratings! Thank you to all who have enjoyed this amazing property and provided a review or rating!!! On the upper Bad River, I have a special location that I'd like to share for others to enjoy. I was fortunate to acquire this land 20 years ago and now that I have retired from the United States Air Force, I can dedicate time to create peaceful campsites along the river. This land was originally railroad property as the railroad companies bought much land in the late 1800's to have options to place their railroads. There is still a railroad track nearby but it has been abandoned since 2015 and it makes a nice hiking path along the river for many miles to the north. There are 3 waterfalls nearby and I will have many signs leading to the waterfalls. There are 4 total campsites on the property, 1 site you can drive to (Eagle Pines), and 3 tent sites that require 1/8 mile hike to 2 sites, and a 1/4 mile hike to the other hike-in site.

Quarry in the Mississippi Bluff

4 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Dakota, MN
This is a very private location. In its former life this property was a limestone quarry. Evidence of it's history remain with high rock walls on both ends of the property. In the center of the property is about 5 acres that is flat and covered with wildflowers and small trees. There are several good options for camping in this area. Surrounding this area is another 15 acres of hills and trees great for hiking and enjoying the beautiful view of the Mississippi River below. There is a boat ramp just a mile down the hill for boating or fishing on the Mississippi and the city of La Crosse, WI and La Crescent, MN are each only about a five minute drive. Great River Bluffs State Park and countless other recreational opportunities are just minutes away.

Also a special thankyou to all the campers that loaded up pictures of their stay last summer, they are all great!!!! Due to comments from some of the campers that were at my campsite at other times I have decided to have two day camping on weekends, thanks for the comments...I had the turn in to the campsite enlarged for this summer also.....The road to the campsite is narrow for large vehicles, I cut alot of the branches but It is hard for larger than 20foot campers to be able to easily get to the site.....

BOB LAKE WOODED is a non-waterfront campsite for both tents or RV's that has been updated to a level site with power and water and includes access to the lake and a row boat at our common access which is only about 200 yards down the road from this site. This property was previously owned by Trapper Art who was well known in the area and started several successful businesses dating back to 1967 including Art's Snowmobile, Trapper Arts, and Art's Electric which was quite an accomplishment in the Wisconsin Northwoods!

RV camping in Wisconsin guide

Overview

There’s a lot more to the Dairy State than cheese and milk production. In summer, RV campgrounds in Wisconsin offer opportunities for swimming, hiking, and ATVing. Point your rig to Door County to watch boats at one of the many Lake Superior harbors and dine on locally caught fish at a fish fry near your site. Drive to Bayfield to peruse the maritime museum, shop at a sled dog-themed book store, and drive along the coast for stunning views of rocky ridgelines and thick evergreen forests. For an urban trip, pull into Milwaukee to see the Milwaukee Art Museum on the lakefront. Visit the Summerfest grounds for music and cultural festivals in the warmer months and a winter wonderland during the December and January holiday. Drive southwest and park near Eau Claire where you can get an Eau Claire Brew Pass to visit breweries like the Leinie Lodge, home of the Leinenkugels founder.
