Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. We are VERY dog friendly and can be off lead as long as the dogs are friendly towards people and other dogs and don't bite our horses. We also have other peoples horses agisting in paddocks. Activities you can do include boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, crabbing, walking, stand up paddle boarding, bird watching, kangaroo spotting, playing in the parks, beach tennis, mountain biking, hiking etc. Camp sites are far from the main house and other sites so you can have camp fires and play music, use generators without worry. Campers will need to be self contained (rubbish and toilets) and please leave your campsite the way you found it. Don't leave toilet paper or rubbish in fire pits please. Enter / Exit the main gate by pushing the code into the key pad. Gate closes after 20 seconds once it is fully open so be quick. NOTE: ***During Summer- November, December, January and February there are midgees (sandflies) at dusk and dawn and we do recommend midgee screening or spraying the mesh on your caravan windows as the standard mozzie mesh will not keep them out. Bring coils, a fan as they hate any breeze, bug spray and long sleeved pants and tops to wear in the evenings from about 5pm-7pm!*** *4X4's are recommended if you don't stay along the fence line as it can get muddy if there has been lots of rain. This is our second stay at Avon’s and Brian’s beautiful cabin and we loved it just as much as the first time! As usual, their horses visited us every day and it was nice to have the addition of cattle grazing around us as well. We cooked our roast lamb and veggies in the camp oven and it was absolutely delicious, thanks to the fresh herbs from the garden. Avon was a wonderful host as usual and we can’t wait to go back there again!

Had a great time! The amenities available are fantastic especially being able to escape from the heat in the cinema room with a new born baby! Horse rides were also a massive highlight!

I loved it was just off the Bruce highway. Was easy to call and check in, just 1 night but was able to charge my phone at the jillaroos shower/toilet on hill. Didn’t appreciate the campers who literally jumped on my site by the main swimming hole, as I was packing up. Very of them.

1 night at TerraLyra Camping & Retreat

A pleasant overnight stop while making our way south to Brisbane. Our stopover was on a Monday with very few people on site, so plenty of places to choose from for us and our van. A 4WD to access the secluded sites would be recommended as it might be tricky getting out if you had any rain as the trek out is relatively steep, grassy but steep. We camped next to the dam and went to sleep with the sound of frogs chatting which is quite soothing and made for a good night. The camp ground is far enough off the “Bruce Hwy” which made for a quiet night and no street lighting is a bonus as well. Highly recommend this place and we will be back again.

What a great place!! Loved the open spaces and ability to choose my campsite. The cows were so quiet and no trouble around my camp. I stayed to check out the birdlife and wasnt disappointed. Wish I could of stayed longer!

Our family/fur babies really enjoyed staying here! We planned on stay one night but ended up staying two nights! The host was so very friendly and even brought the trailer down full of fire wood for us to use! I was amazed by the amount of different kinds of dragonflies and butterflies! Simply magical! Ps: It is definitely worth paying to try your luck at panning for gold! There is gold to be found if you’re willing to dig! Thanks Neville! Stunning piece of property!

Where to go

Fraser Coast

Maryborough is the gateway to the Fraser Coast, where you can take your pick of sandy beaches and island getaways. Cruise out to Fraser Island to enjoy 4WD beach drives, bushwalks, and beachside camping, or head to the whale-watching capital of Hervey Bay.

Capricorn Coast

North of Hervey Bay, the bohemian beach town of Bundaberg is famous for its sea turtles, seafood restaurants, and Bundaberg Rum factory. Check into a beachside holiday park, set sail on a cruise around the Southern Great Barrier Reef, or continue along the coast to Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Sunshine Coast

The golden shores of the Sunshine Coast lie just south of Maryborough. Zip along the beaches of the Great Sandy National Park in a 4WD, then camp out by the beachside, or head to neighboring Noosa Heads for a surf lesson. Further south, popular attractions include the Eumundi Markets and Australia Zoo, and a hike around the Glass House Mountains is a must.

When to go

Maryborough’s mild climate makes it a year-round destination, but the biggest crowds come in July for the annual Mary Poppins festival—book your campsite well in advance if visiting at this time. July through October is the time for whale-watching along the Fraser Coast, but coastal towns are busiest in summer (December through February).

Know before you go

The Fraser Coast has good public transport links, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the coast and national parks.

Maryborough has several shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies before heading out to the islands.
Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before lighting a campfire.
