Weekend Trip to Big Rocks Bush Retreat

Plenty of camp sites to choose from, small to large. Open sites to surrounded by trees. Creek had a slight flow to it, made it feel a little tropical compared to the bush up top. Hosts were friendly, the animals were cute, we checked out the communal area and would be a good area to have some drinks and make some new mates. Tracks were a little overgrown but added to the fun of driving around finding a spot. Would come again to do the walk. Might need a map for next time though.

Such a beautiful spot!! Nikki was a great host, everything was easy. There's a kiosk where you can grab some supplies they will let you know when its open. There were loads of spaces. The main billabong is where most ppl tend to camp. Plenty of shade, fire pits. The toilets were super clean. I would most definitely recommend and we will most definitely be back.

McSweeny Haven

Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. RUSTIC RETREAT

Our property is situated on the banks of the great sandy strait just 400m from the Tuan Boat ramp with access to Fraser Island by boat or kayak. We are surrounded by State forests and wetland. There is a dam on the property for swimming and playing. 400m walk to Tuan beach and boat ramp, exit via the main gate entrance. The forshore has a park, BBQ area and picnic tables as well as garbage disposal. There is plenty of space with-in the property and surrounding forests for mountain biking, motor-biking and walking. 3km down the road in Boonooroo you will find a large park with tennis court and public BBQ's. The bowls club and Golf Club are just 3km away. This site is suitable for caravans, RV's, camper trailers. There is no toilet facility on the property. We are VERY dog friendly and can be off lead as long as the dogs are friendly towards people and other dogs and don'y try and bite our horses which roam freely. We also have other peoples horses agisting in paddocks on the property. (Please don't feed them as their owners have requested this) You can feed our horses apples and carrots. Activities you can do include boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, crabbing, walking, stand up paddle boarding, bird watching, kangaroo spotting, playing in the parks, beach tennis, mountain biking, hiking etc. Camp sites are far from the main house and other sites so you can have camp fires and play music, use generators without worry of disturbing the neighbours. We have a hosepipe at the horse stables as you drive in on nexto the main house where you can fill up water canisters but might be easier to bring your own water. Text before hand so we can show you where the fresh water tap is found. Campers will need to be self contained (rubbish and toilets) and please leave your campsite the way you found it. Don't leave toilet paper or rubbish in fire pits please. Enter / Exit the main gate by pushing the code into the key pad. (Given on booking) Gate closes after 20 seconds once it is fully open so be quick. NOTE: ***During Summer- November, December, January and February there are midgees (sandflies) at dusk and dawn and we do recommend midgee screening or spraying the mesh on your caravan windows as the standard mozzie mesh will not keep them out. Bring coils, a fan as they hate any breeze, bug spray and long sleeved pants and tops to wear in the evenings from about 5pm-7pm!*** *4X4's are recommended if you don't stay along the fence line as it can get muddy if there has been lots of rain. If you stay along the fence line you will be fine as the roads are compact and hard and the camp sites along this fence are higher up, they are marked with Fire Pits so camp here if you want to stay dry and get a good breeze.*

Fraser Coast

Capricorn Coast

North of Hervey Bay, the bohemian beach town of Bundaberg is famous for its sea turtles, seafood restaurants, and Bundaberg Rum factory. Check into a beachside holiday park, set sail on a cruise around the Southern Great Barrier Reef, or continue along the coast to Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Sunshine Coast

The golden shores of the Sunshine Coast lie just south of Maryborough. Zip along the beaches of the Great Sandy National Park in a 4WD, then camp out by the beachside, or head to neighboring Noosa Heads for a surf lesson. When to go

Maryborough’s mild climate makes it a year-round destination, but the biggest crowds come in July for the annual Mary Poppins festival—book your campsite well in advance if visiting at this time. July through October is the time for whale-watching along the Fraser Coast, but coastal towns are busiest in summer (December through February).

The Fraser Coast has good public transport links, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the coast and national parks.

Maryborough has several shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies before heading out to the islands.
