Our property is located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township and was home to a gold rush in 1868 where a 73 oz nugget was discovered. Guests will have access to a portable toilet and fire pit throughout their stay. Gold is still found in and around the creek with fossicking permitted at an extra daily rate of $25 per person. As this is private property we require that all the QLD Fossicking Act rules and regulations are followed this includes having your own permit which must be supplied before fossicking is permitted. These rules include no machinery or pump operated sluices such as high banking sluices. Detectors are welcome and some great finds have been found with them including gold and coins from the 1860’s. Large groups are welcome. There are many great shaded camping spots along the creek or a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. There is also a year round swimming hole fed by a solar bore on the property for anyone wanting to cool down. Kids under 12 are free but if fossicking must be covered by a permit. Pets are welcome. McSweeny Haven
I really enjoyed camping at McSweeny Haven. Neville greeted me on arrival and offered his advice on which site would best suit my young family. He also offered to help if I needed and delivered firewood. Neville was very accomodating. The campsite was just what my two young boys needed. Room to run around freely and enjoy a peaceful camp site with only a few other campers. We spent our time exploring the riverbed and swimming at the deeper holes within the river. We had a huge amount of rain the first night. It was so lovely of Neville to come and check on us the next morning. I highly recommend staying at McSweeny Haven.

McSweeny Haven
Natural at its core
The range of spaces to camp in was perfect, literally something for everyone. Wide open, secluded, shaded areas, little niche spots, right near the creek, further back etc. there were multiple groups/people camping, but you barely heard anyone else unless you had gone for a walk. The sound of nature was constant and so ambient. Crickets, birds, frogs, cows etc. The creek had several great swimming holes. Lots to do around the area. Neville was inviting and gave us a good selection of spaces to choose from. Was the most activity filled camping trip, yet was the most carefree we have been on in a long time. Will love to go back.

McSweeny Haven
McSweeny Haven is ideal for a country farm stay. The cows were friendly, it was peaceful and enjoyed looking out over the paddocks and mountains. The creek was good for a cool off and we enjoyed the gold panning experience. Grassed area for camping, fire pits, and toilet supplied. Thanks for letting us stay.

Beautiful grassy flat ground to camp on. Nice Creek to sit in on a hot day and pan for some shiny stuff.
