Family-friendly
Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is great for families and kids.
Our property is situated on the banks of the great sandy strait just 400m from the Tuan Boat ramp with access to Fraser Island by boat or kayak. We are surrounded by State forests and wetland. There is a dam on the property for swimming and playing. 400m walk to the Tuan beach and boat ramp, exit via the main gate entrance. The forshore has a park, BBQ area and picnic tables as well as garbage disposal. There is plenty of space with-in the property and surrounding forests for mountain biking, motor-biking and walking. 3km down the road in Boonooroo you will find a large park with tennis court and public BBQ's. The bowls club and Golf Club are just 3km away. This site is suitable for caravans, RV's, camper trailers. There is no toilet facility on the property. We are VERY dog friendly and can be off lead as long as the dogs are friendly towards people and other dogs and don'y try and bite our horses which roam freely. We also have other peoples horses agisting in paddocks on the property. (Please don't feed them as their owners have requested this) You can feed our horses apples and carrots. Activities you can do include boating, kayaking, swimming, fishing, crabbing, walking, stand up paddle boarding, bird watching, kangaroo spotting, playing in the parks, beach tennis, mountain biking, hiking etc. Camp sites are far from the main house and other sites so you can have camp fires and play music, use generators without worry of disturbing the neighbours. We have a tap/ hosepipe at the horse stables as you drive in on nexto the main house where you can fill up water canisters but might be easier to bring your own water. Text before hand to organise so we can show you where the fresh water tap is found. Campers will need to be self contained (rubbish and toilets) and please leave your campsite the way you found it. Don't leave toilet paper or rubbish in fire pits please. Enter / Exit the main gate by pushing the code into the key pad. (Given on booking) Gate closes after 20 seconds once it is fully open so be quick. NOTE: ***During Summer months - November, December, January and February there are midgees (sandflies) at dusk and dawn and we do recommend midgee screening or spraying the mesh on your caravan windows as the standard mozzie mesh will not keep them out. Bring coils, a fan as they hate any breeze, bug spray and long sleeved pants and tops to wear in the evenings from about 5pm-7pm. After it is dark they die down!*** ***4X4's are recommended if you don't stay along the fence line as it can get muddy if there has been lots of rain. If you stay along the fence line you will be fine as the roads are compact and hard and the camp sites along this fence are higher up, they are marked with Fire Pits so camp here if you want to stay dry and get a good breeze.*** We hope you enjoy the peace and quiet out here. If you need anything please message me on HIPCAMP messages or text or call me : 0487047270 (9am -5pm) Unless in an emergency.RUSTIC RETREAT IS A CAMPER VAN/CARAVAN/ RV AND HORSE FLOAT CAMPER CAMP SITE. SADLY NO TENTS ARE ALLOWED. 4x4’s are definitely recommend and may be required when it has been raining and it is wet! People have got themselves stuck attempting to drive off the camp roads when they haven’t stayed along the fence! Keep on higher ground by driving along the fence on your right. Camp sites are where the fire pits are as they are on higher ground. (Good breeze and dry) 🧻WE DO NOT HAVE PUBLIC TOILETS OR ELECTRICITY. 🚿YOU NEED TO BE FULLY SELF SUFFICIENT TO CAMP HERE. 🐎PLEASE CAMP at least 100m away from the Agistment shed and paddocks as we have people coming to feed/ ride their horses here. This beautiful isolated 84 Acre property is situated on the banks of the great sandy strait opposite Fraser Island, surrounded by State forest and Mangroves. We have no neighbors! We run self-care agistment here where people lease land for their horses. Our 3 horses you may see are the two palomino’s and the dark bay stock horse in the rug. The rest do not belong to us and are their owners responsibility. We are very dog friendly. Dogs can be off lead as long as the they are friendly and don’t bite or chase the horses. On Property: 👣 Plenty of space for mountain biking, horse riding, walking, running, etc. 👣 River access - ONLY AT HIGH TIDE! Bring Stand up paddle boards/ Kayaks / or hire our kayaks. Tuan Boat Ramp is 300m from our main gate and less muddy if preferred. 👣 A medium sized dam for swimming and playing. Feel free to use the floaties and stand up paddle boards on the shore. No nasties in the dam so safe for swimming. 👣Other activities may include fishing, crabbing, bird watching, kangaroo spotting etc. Amenities Nearby but not on property: 👣 Expansive adjacent forests for unlimited horse riding trails, mountain biking, motor-biking, hiking, etc. 👣 Tuan Boat ramp with public toilets/ Public rubbish bins (300m) away. 👣 Tuan Foreshore Beachfront (400m) with park and free BBQ’s 👣 Great kids park in Boonooroo with Tennis Court, Playground, Soccer field, cricket pitch (3km) down Wilkinson Road, turn Right to Boonooroo. 👣 Bowls club and Golf Club (3km) Golf Club has great food but booking is definitely recommended. IMPORTANT: *IF YOU COME DURING SUMMER WEAR LIGHT COLORED, LONG SLEEVED SHIRTS AND LONG PANTS FOR MIDGEES AS THEY COME OUT AT 5PM!* *BRING COILS,SPRAY ETC IT IS QUEENSLAND SO TO BE EXPECTED* NOTE: Camping is predominantly on the upper paddocked grass field or around the dam (if you can handle midgees) Campers will need to be self sufficient - please leave your campsite the way you found it. Take your trash with you when you leave. You should bring your own water and portable toilet. We have water if urgent so please text us so we can show you where it is. (It is the tap by the horse stables.) Steel fire drums designate more popular spots with a breeze/ less mozzies and higher ground. camp fires are allowed. Welcome to play your music or ride mountain bikes and run/ walk/ explore the whole property. No loud music after 9pm please. Motorbikes can be ridden on the property but please be respectful of the horses, campers and stay 300m away from the main house and horse paddocks and riding arena. Better to ride outside the property if there are other campers. Host contact by text / hipcamp between 9am-5pm ONLY. Please respect host’s privacy and don’t come and knock unless an emergency. Please note we can’t control the weather so if it does rain and gets very wet it is unfortunately out of our control. Thank you and enjoy your stay!

RUSTIC RETREAT
Overall the property was really nice. We were the only ones camping there but I could see that even if you had the full 9 campsites utilised you would not be on top of each other which is great. Lots of firewood available to pick up. However the dam was muddy and stinky. I aslo acknowledge that they had a lot of rain before our trip but the campsites are definitely not 2wd accessible at the moment. And the midges are full on.

Camping motorbike riding dogs and c
Stayed over Easter weekend although it was raining on and off we had a great time. On arrival to camp picked up the map from the tree signed motorbike waiver. Set off to find our site. Was muddy from the rain got bogged in the troupy "75" with trailer fully loaded. Got out ok with the Max trax. Owners came by to help but we were already out and then on stayed high on the fence line after that. (Driver error). The dogs (off leash) were welcomed by the horses that were free to roam. We went on a short stroll and found a nice fishing spot with a hut. Cut up our own logs for the camp fire (aloud by owner) for cooking (Lamb shanks with baby potato) is a must. Rode the motorbike around the property (enjoyed the mud puddles). Plenty of space and our nearest neighbour was about 100mts away. Great spot to camp we will return 👍
