    This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more. If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store. Please check with us on fire restrictions, hipcamp is often wrong on their assumptions, we rarely have fire restrictions. BE SURE TO GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME TO CHECK IN NO LATER THAN 5PM.     ABOUT OUR CAMPGROUND and LOCATION: The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, (not anywhere near the Island in the Sky) visitors center is only 1.5 miles away. We are approximately 1.5 hours from Arches and approximately 2 hours from Island in the Sky. There is a bathhouse with warm showers and flush toilets. ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 5PM to keep your reservation. SITE SPECIFIC: This tent is equipped with a very comfortable made up queen sized bed. There is storage chest inside provided with cookware, dishes & utensils. You can cook on the cowboy camp stove which includes a cooking grate as well. Lay out under the dark sky on the large outdoor star gazing couch, and enjoy the romantic ambiance of the fairy lighting inside and outside of the tent. WHAT TO EXPECT: There are several hiking trails in the area as well as bicycling & 4 wheel drive trails on BLM (public land). This IS the Wild, Rustic, Dirty Desert, not for Everyone.  This is Camping and keep in mind this is a rugged camping experience not for the faint at heart. The desert is Hot in the summer and cold in the winter, the weather is Unpredictable and you May experience our Wild storms...Monsoon season runs from July-August which is amazing if you are into photography. Be sure to bring proper gear for the rain (if we get any). You may hear coyotes, see spiders, experience the annoying desert gnats at certain times of the day during the hotter summer season. You will want to bring bug spray, but if you forgot we do sell it in our camp store. If you stay with us you will get the experience of desert camping, wild, raw and rugged. It is an amazing experience to be had, with beautiful views and the feeling of freedom that is hard to find in more civilized and populated locations. The rocks nearby are kid friendly, great for climbing and taking amazing photos of our fantastic views and gorgeous sunsets. BATHHOUSE: There is a Bathhouse with Showers and Flush Toilets. Showers are with a Token and must be purchased during store hours. The bathhouse is shared with other campers and gets dirty. We are surrounded by red dirt.     This charming group site is nested up against the red sandstone rock wall that encompasses our entire campground. If privacy is what you desire then this is the best site to book. If you have friends or family (12 guests maximum total) joining you then this site assures you will be all together with out having to book multiple sites. We don't have many trees out here in the desert but this site has a small grove of the deserts' aromatic juniper trees providing plenty of shade if you are here in the warmer months and it offers a little protection from the winds during the change of seasons. ABOUT OUR CAMPGROUND and LOCATION: The Needles District of Canyonlands National Park, (not anywhere near the Island in the Sky) visitors center is only 1.5 miles away. Hikes into the Needles are less than a 10 minute drive. This section of the park is a hikers paradise, what we call the "quiet side", underrated, inherently and beautifully primitive. A place to be treasured. We are approximately 1.5 hours from Arches and approximately 2 hours from Island in the Sky. There is a bathhouse with warm showers and flush toilets. ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 5PM to keep your reservation. SITE SPECIFICS: This small group site is for those who want a gathering of family members, friends or small events.  This site will fit 6 tents or 3 rv vehicles, or any combination of such with 10 guests total, This a quiet escape for those who want to experience the serenity of the outdoors yet with the comfort of a few amenities nearby.     Fantastic spot and very close to the park entrance! Sunsets were gorgeous, but the sun was noooo joke. It was VERY hot during the day over Labor Day weekend. We were very grateful that we brought our pop up shelter and not just our tent. Temps are perfect at night, barely even need a sleeping bag. Camp outpost store has tons of stuff if you forget things, even games to rent and books to borrow or trade. Views were gorgeous! Definitely a ways away from everything but a great spot for solitude. Even has bathrooms and paid showers. There were campers around us but no one bothered us at all! Use google maps and download the area and you’ll be good. directions were also super easy!

    this was my second time staying here and i will absolutely be back! you could spend the whole vacation at this campsite and be satisfied it is so gorgeous. it’s definitely out of the way but i think that’s a great thing and worth the drive out! it’s right next to the canyonlands needles visitor center which is awesome and it’s got actual toilets, sinks, and showers! the sites are far enough apart that you get your own space still too.

    It’s absolutely beautiful at this campground, but we made the mistake of booking a tent site in August. All of the sites are west-facing meaning you have full sun exposure during the later half of the day. It was too hot, and even creating shade wasn’t enough for us. Don’t let this deter you- if you’re prepared for the heat, I’d definitely recommend this place! Would absolutely book again in the milder seasons. You’re so close to Canyonlands national park, and the drive from Moab is unreal!

    Needles Outpost is a unique and wonderful experience, the location is unique just outside the park, Amber and Caleb are very nice, helpful and kind folks. We stayed in one of their tents. The tent was very nicely furnished with everything you may need. Extremely clean and easy to access. Keep in mind it was August so hot days but cooler nights. Highly recommended!!

    We had an unforgettable experience at the Outpost, and Amber could not have been any sweeter or more accommodating. We loved the peaceful atmosphere and the amazing night skies. The kids enjoyed rock-climbing and watching the sunset from high above their tent site. This was our favorite stay, and we hope to be back.

    I love the location but fair warning to all it is very hot and later in the day there isn’t too much shade on the sites. We had a great experience with the site as it is super close to the needles and had showers which was super nice. Would recommend just be prepared for heat obviously

    This site was amazing as it is remote, quiet, and comes with amenities! Caleb was there to check us in when we arrived. While we originally planned to stay three nights, we ended up leaving after one as the heat was getting to me (definitely not the camps fault 😅, I'm just from Seattle). I would love to come back some day during a cooler season. This campground is independently run and therefore the bathroom is in need of renovations, which the owners try to work on as they have the money. So if you're up for remote (but near the Needles District in Canyonlands) and can handle a bathroom that's functional but not the prettiest, then this spot is for you! Thank you Amber and Caleb for hosting this site and doing your best to keep flush toilets and showers available!

    We loved Amber and Caleb's land! The views were stunning. Minutes away from the National Park. Lots to explore. Amber and Caleb were both friendly and accommodating. The stars at night, WOW. I can't put into words how beautiful it was. I would recommend staying here! One thing to be aware of if you have a camper or RV, you need to fill your potable water tanks before you drive down to their site. You can fill them up in Moab or Monticello. While the visitor center on the National Park does have potable water, they don't allow you to fill up your RV. You can fill up water bottles and 5 gallon jugs there just fine. Don't be dumb like us, and go down without water. Rookie mistake. Come prepared. You can also use the dump at Maverick Adventures First Stop Gas Station for free in either Moab or Monticello. They also both have potable water. There is no dump in the canyon lands. Overall, wonderful experience! Thanks Amber and Caleb!

    Small Group Site at the Rocks
    This is the second time we've gone here and really enjoyed it both times. My kids loved clambering over the rocks and chasing lizards. Amber and Caleb are friendly and great at staying on top of things. Having a working bathroom and access to their small store is also really nice.

    The site is beautiful and so close to the Needles District entrance. It was handy having the store - ice cream at the end of a hike was a treat! The bathroom is admittedly older, and could use some refreshing/repairs, but the kind owners are working as they can to improve things. Our kids loved scampering and exploring on the slickrock behind our camp and enjoying the sunset views.

    This was a great campsite with beautiful views and a very scenic drive in. We were very thankful to have bathrooms with running water and a shower if we needed it. There are also fire pits and a table at each site, and roughly half of the campsites have trees that provide shade. You can also choose your own site when you get there which was nice. The only downside was that it was about an hour and 20 minute drive to the entrance of Arches National Park, and the Canyonlands entrance that this site is close to does not connect to the rest of the park. We ended up driving the 2 hours to the other entrance when visiting Canyonlands.

    Needle Campground is perfect if you want to explore Canyonlands (park many skip and shouldn’t) or have a quiet place to stay for a night or few. The Needles visitors center is 5 minutes away. The Chesler loop trailhead is an about another 15 minutes from visitors center (the road is winding and has blind spots. We did it with a Campervan so it’s doable). If you doing the full 11 miles start early (6 or 7am), if you are hiking in the summer. The canyon gets very hot. Some sections have no shade. Some camp spots have no shade either so taking a screen might be a good idea. The campground has toilets and showers. There is limit on the shower time, but 5 min is more than enough in my view. Amber is super helpful and was easy to reach. You can do a bit of scrambling around and get a good view of the campsite from above. Sundown is beautiful.

    What a perfect ending to the most wonderful trip - my partner and I had been dispersed camping for 5 days and six nights when we decided we wanted to check out Needles district before ending our vacation. We’d been hogging a great spot near Moab for long enough, we thought, and boy did we need to shower! When we found Sky Dancer’s Den was available for the last leg of our trip it was a no-brainer, we booked right away from a gas station parking lot. The quiet, that mattress (wow!), the view, the conveniences available, proximity to so many amazing places, we couldn’t believe our luck. Our time at Outpost was as refreshing as we’d hoped but also so magical, going home felt bittersweet.

    The only good thing I can say about this campsite is that it's undeniably beautiful. However, any extensive interaction with the host (Amber) will ruin the experience. The first red flag I encountered was how frequently the host texted me throughout my trip to see if I screenshoted her directions and give her an ETA ... 1 day before we were even staying at the campground. We were scheduled to arrive 15 minutes before her closing time. However, the texted directions were a nightmare and hard to read. She flips back and forth between describing the north and south directions to the location of the campground. Upon arrival at the campground, Amber immediately got after my husband for speeding there down her road (since we were late due to poor directions). My husband informed her that our van only goes by 10's, but he would do his best to drive 5mph. This wasn't good enough for Amber and it became a point of contention several times for Amber even if we were going the estimated speed. At one point she refused to allow him to pay for a shower until she described her "feelings" regarding an unpleasant interaction with him and proceeded to use the F word for "speeding" (which we weren't at that point). The last complaint is regarding the bathroom situation. They are disgusting. The ceiling tile is tied to the women and men's side and is falling out. So, a peeping Tom could peer into the women's side while women are showering... This whole thing was so unacceptable we left early

    We had such a quiet, peaceful night camping here. We loved climbing all over the rocks finding petroglyphs and catching a beautiful sunset from an elevated view. When leaving you’re a stone’s throw from Needles and can beat the heat and crowds for an early hike! Well worth the stay, regardless of a fire restriction. We’d do it again!

    If you want to have a true Utah dessert experience, this is the right spot for you. The night is quiet and clean and the silence overwhelmingly pleasent. Amber and Caleb were super nice and always eager to help. The only think we regret is not spending more time there and try Caleb's speciality: spanish pork cuisine ;). Definitely will repeat if coming back to the state!
