Rainbow Ridge Retreat is closed until further notice. We are working with the land to bring out more of its natural beauty! Rainbow Ridge itself is largely comprised of the three houses on property as well as the surrounding woodlands. Its area spans fifty acres of elevated terrain surrounded by a forest creek (where crawdads can be found). The camping area is on about five acres of the property and is populated by alders and evergreens, making it a wonderful place to connect with nature. It's a beautiful area sure to soothe the soul. A short but captivating nature trail is open to campers who are interested in a walk up the gentle hill. We do have a worm composting toilet and water available for washing. A new hot shower will be available. A couple of more sites are in the plans. Nearby is the quaint town of Montesano. Lake Sylvia is there for those looking to discover one of our lovely state parks. Closer by, there is a river with boat launch that runs down and through Montesano for people who want to swim, fish, float, or boat. Montesano's central location in Grays Harbor allows it to serve as a wonderful base of operations for those looking to explore more of the coast, and northwestern peninsula. The way up to Rainbow Ridge is a short winding driveway of somewhat steep grade, delivery trucks have no problems, so if you have a small camper or less, you should be fine.

This is a camping location with ACCESS to the river, access to OUR farm land, ponds and DNR land. Our camp spots are private and not stacked on top of each other. Right now we have dry camping with outdoor honey buckets. We are wanting something that you can clear your mind, camp In peace. We also offer wood for SALE and all of our sites have wood burning areas. We also have ice and delivery services. IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK We are about 45 minutes from ocean beaches, only a few minutes from the best riding, hiking and boating in the world. We have a cute bar and restaurant within a mile. Also gas and groceries are close as well. Boat launch is about 1/2 a block easy access. There is talk about sites at the river, we have some in their premature stage. This is NOT offered through our Hip Camp site!!!!! There are reasons for this: When we initially opened, we allowed people to camp there through Hip Camp and I was getting low stars ratings because Entitled people thought for $28 bucks, they got the whole river to themselves and would fight with other campers. IT JUST GOT TO EXHAUSTING. In the coming years I’m going to try to set up some premium sites on the river and work super hard at getting amenities that will match that price. But for now, Enjoy Camp Hope and the river ACCESS too!! We appreciate the wonderful feedback everyone gives it helps us grow with you!! * PLEASE READ THE SITE DECRIPTION ASWELL WITH MORE INFORMATION *

Professionally managed by RR Bed and Breakfast, on site. Highlights: -- Easy on/off from US 101 at SR 3 (Shelton) -- Single cottage and RV site = privacy -- Pet-friendly -- Stone firepit with half-moon seating -- Creekside deck at the outlet of Lake Isabella – private, no neighbors -- Kayak to the lake (also a nearby WDFW boat launch) Details: 17 min to Hood Canal, 30 min to Lake Cushman, 50 min to the Staircase Entrance of Olympic Natl Park (33 miles). Perfect location for setting up camp with your RV, then taking your car up into the Olympics. Looking for dog-friendly hikes? Several Olympic Natl Forest and Skokomish Wilderness trails can be accessed from Lake Cushman, including Mt. Ellinor, Mt. Rose, and Mt. Washington. When returning, enjoy what the property has to offer. A trailhead beckons you to the shores of Mill Creek. If you pause along the trail, wildlife will stir from their hiding places. Song birds, rabbits, deer, voles – yes. But also river otters, beavers, ducks, owls, and coyotes. The trail is historic to the property - you will find remnants of fallen barbed wire fences, an abandoned electrical post from 70 years ago, and a 1960’s sedan, all taken back by the forest. A wetland boardwalk ushers you to a creekside deck. A birdwatcher's paradise, here you can kayak into Lake Isabella or tube downstream. This is private access -- the expansive wetlands prevent neighbors - you will only share this special space with the occasional kayaker. There is a beaver dam just upstream, and if you visit at twilight you will hear them stir from dens along the bank. When hunger stirs, stroll north along the trail to a secluded upland picnic table. Dine among the woodland animals. Between our rental cottage and RV site is a large propane fire pit with half-moon seating - perfect for roasting S'mores late into the evening or stargazing in a region remote from city lights. With just a single RV site and cottage, the nearest neighbor acres away, and only State land between the property and Hwy 101, you can expect a private stay in a forested setting with easy freeway access to the Olympics on one side and an idyllic private creek side nature preserve on the other. We welcome you to the beauty of Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

Lake Sylvia State Park camping guide

Overview

About

This sweet lake makes you feel as if you've found a second home. Swimming is safe for kids. The lake's even small enough for you to kayak the whole thing before you get really tired.

Take your fishing gear out in your canoe or kayak to snag some trout for dinner. Or just have fun watching the river otters play. You can bring an electric-powered boat, but heads up—no gasoline-powered engines are allowed.

Of course, that just makes this lake all the more blissfully peaceful. You can rent a kayak if you forgot yours. This former logging camp near the town of Montesano still has the original logging trails, which are great for mountain biking.

Tent camping is your first choice here. There are only four partial hookups for RVs of up to 30 feet (plus a dump station). Choose from 31 campsites, or hike into another half dozen.

A group campsite for 50 makes this rustic lake an ideal choice for your family reunion or getaway with friends.

Notable campgrounds

  • Standard Campsites: Nestled in the forest, these sites are perfect for tent or RV camping, with a maximum length of 30 feet.
  • Partial Hookup Sites: Offering added convenience, these sites include some utilities for a more comfortable camping experience.
  • Primitive Walk-in Sites: For those seeking solitude, these sites provide a rustic camping adventure away from the main campground.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early, especially for peak summer months, as sites fill up quickly due to the park's popularity.
  • Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Check for cancellations regularly, as plans change and spots may open up unexpectedly.
  • Explore nearby camping options to ensure you have a backup plan in case the park is fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Lake Sylvia State Park is during the summer, from 8am to dusk, when the weather is warm and all facilities are open. Winter visits offer a peaceful atmosphere, but with limited hours and services. Avoid burn bans and check for seasonal closures before planning your trip.

Know before you go

  • Always keep dogs on a leash and clean up after them to maintain the park's natural beauty.
  • Fires are permitted only in designated areas; check for any active burn bans before lighting one.
  • Accessibility is a priority, with ADA-accessible campsites and restrooms available for visitors.
  • Remember to purchase a Discover Pass for park entry, available for $30 annually or $10 for a one-day pass.
  • For a smooth visit, familiarize yourself with the park's rules and amenities by reviewing the official website or contacting the park directly.
