We bought a farm and started learning about farming in 2020 after a good friend of ours passed away from cancer and we started talking through what it would look like to try something we've always wanted to try. We knew nothing about it previously so welcome to our adventure! There are a lot of camping spots on our property and you can choose anywhere you'd like. The top of our ridge called "soil road" used to be the main traveling path back in the settler days. The house at the bottom of our driveway used to be the towns post office, and there is a cave back on the creek where soldiers during the civil war camped out in. We are a working farm during the day so if you choose to walk down the ridge you'll find outside working with the animals or in the flower or produce garden. There is a lot of great fishing in the creek so make sure to bring your rod! We love pets so yours are welcome, and there are a lot of hiking trails and cute towns around us. Learn more about this land: A quiet very private experience on a farm with 180 Blue Ridge Mountain views on top of the ridge or walk down our trail to camp and trout fish on Rock Castle Creek. With clear stars, fireflies everywhere, and a cozy fire, what more could you ask for? Our whole 54 acres is yours to explore during the day to swim in the creek, see our farm animals or take a quick drive to the many surrounding lakes, hiking trails and local towns. Any type of camping set up is welcome from truck tent set ups to converted vans to on the ground camping. The top of our hill is flat so it can accommodate any set up except huge RV's!

Located less than a mile from the Blue Ridge Parkway, this little hayfield is nestled just a skip away from Mabry Mill (the most photographed spot on the parkway), Villa Appalachia (quant Italian style winery), Chateau Morrisette (larger tourist winery), Nancy's Fudge (a little candy factory and shop), and hiking trails of varying lengths with epic views (Black Ridge Trail and Rock Castle Gorge Trail). Each of these is under 5 miles from our camp spot. Yet, if you are also hoping to hop out of your camper and WALK somewhere, there is a hike that leads you directly up to Chateau Morissette. The property itself is a hayfield that typically has a couple of cuttings each summer. The property owner (my dad, who is in his mid 70s and doesn't internet so well) lives in a log home that is across the field on the adjacent property. He is probably going to stop by to say hi. There is a unique cabin shower, a composting toilet, well and tap water available for campers, a wonderful Solo stove for you to build a fire and to cozy up near, and a picnic table for enjoying a bite to eat! A deck sits right outside the cabin that overlooks the creek, and will be private for you during your stay.  We welcome your pets, just please ensure they are on a leash since there are other farm animals on the property.  While the cabin is the only one on our property, and somewhat private, you may see the Hosts in passing on the farm.  Additional Details to Note: - Check in is after 4pm and check out by 10am - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception is available on our property. Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. We absolutely loved camping at Infinity Acres! We were a party of 7. 4 adults and 1 kid in our 27ft class C RV, and then 1 adult and 2 kids in a tent. There was plenty of space for camping and hanging out, enjoying the fire pit. We cooked 3 meals over the fire, including some Bass that we caught in the lake! We are novice fisherman, so Rick even helped the kids getting the poles set up and giving advice on bait. Our RV is a 27ft Minnie Winnie, 13ft clearance, and barely fit into the spot. Laura came to greet us and we actually had to trim a couple of branches to be able to fit, but she was kind and helpful and we made it work no problem. The kids absolutely loved watching all of the animals. We took a few hikes through the woods and made our way to "Narnia". And the fishing pond was great. Our oldest son caught his biggest fish! The views were great, so much foliage, and the property sits atop a hill so you've got quite a bit of visibility. We will absolutely stay here again, both kids and adults had a great time at Laura's place!

We had an amazing experience at 24 on the Mountain. From the moment we arrived, John — the host — made us feel genuinely welcome. He is friendly, attentive, and clearly takes a lot of pride in this property. You can tell he loves sharing his slice of mountain paradise with guests. The campsite sits high on the mountain with an unbeatable view overlooking Talbott Reservoir. We could see the dam, the water, and miles of gorgeous scenery. Sunsets and sunrises were unreal — the kind of views that photos can’t even come close to capturing. The site was clean, private, quiet, and extremely well thought out. Plenty of room to park and set up, and the layout made it feel like we had the whole mountain to ourselves. We enjoyed the peace, the stars, and the total escape from noise and crowds. John checked in just enough to make sure we had what we needed, but also respected our privacy. Exactly what you hope for in a Hipcamp host. We camp a lot, and this spot is easily one of our new favorites. If you’re looking for a relaxing mountain getaway with breathtaking views and a great host, book 24 on the Mountain. Me and my mister wanted to go on a spontaneous camping night and this was a perfect spot, friendly security(can’t remember his name at the moment), access to campfire wood and the bathroom was very nice! we had a beautiful view when we woke up in the morning aswell, and the pup loved it just as much! Had a little trouble navigating where to find it at first but it was also nighttime when we finally made it I’m sure it’s much easier to spot during the day time :)

Great spot, excellent for star-gazing. Loved hearing the babbling brook behind the site and enjoyed the excellent well-maintained campfire spot and the trees were hardy and well-spaced for hammocks. Waking up to the roosters was super nostalgic and a great surprise to score some eggs too. Felt very private and safe; the porta potty was extremely clean and a nice touch with the light for nighttime. Would recommend making sure you have all your groceries/water/etc before you arrive to save you a trip into town-we stuck around the campsite, but seems like a perfect jumping off point for Hanging Rock state park.

Learn more about this land: Welcome to the cozy creek-view cabin, tucked away on our small dairy goat farm. This charming spot is perfect for a getaway near the Blue Ridge Parkway! About the Property: Our quaint cabins sit on the rolling hills of our nearly 20 acre farm, where a creek sits at the base of the property leading to Little River. We are about 20 minutes away from the Appalachian Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway. There are plenty of opportunities to go hiking on and around out property, Little River allows for paddling and floating, you can go swimming and enjoy the outdoors - there is truly something for everyone! There are farm animals on the property, and we encourage you to enjoy some farm fresh eggs from our chickens! The property is also a quick 10 minute trip into town - the musical and artistic Floyd, VA - where you can find a grocery store and some restaurants as well.  We hope you'll enjoy the peaceful setting, overlooking onto the creek, and our farm animals as much as we do! About the Listings: Creek View Cabin: The cabin has a cozy bed that sits in the lofted space (you will need to climb up a set of ladder steps to reach the bed), and a couch option on the ground level for sleeping accommodations. There is a unique cabin shower, a composting toilet, well and tap water available for campers, a wonderful Solo stove for you to build a fire and to cozy up near, and a picnic table for enjoying a bite to eat! A deck sits right outside the cabin that overlooks the creek, and will be private for you during your stay.  We welcome your pets, just please ensure they are on a leash since there are other farm animals on the property.  While the cabin is the only one on our property, and somewhat private, you may see the Hosts in passing on the farm.  Additional Details to Note: - Check in is after 4pm and check out by 10am - You can stay connected if you'd like to, as cell reception is available on our property. The cabin does not have wifi. Feel free to unplug during your stay though! - This spot is family friendly, so feel free to bring the kids and furry friends if you'd like! - Fires allowed only in the Solo stove Please feel free to reach out with any questions and we look forward to your stay! Spring Side Cabin: The goal of our cabin is to give guests an up-close view of life on a farm :). The cabin is on the edge of our active family farm, and directly beside the dairy goat barn. We have a small herd of miniature goats you are welcome to visit with - chances are, they'll reach their heads over the fence for a pet :). Our livestock dog lives with the goats, and you will hear her bark. (We provide ear plugs in case of night time barking). The goats love visitors, so please let us know if you want to take part in the farming, or just give treats :). We are also happy to have our guests take part in some of the farm activities. Bring your sense of adventure, but please do not book if you will be bothered by goat sounds, a dog barking or rooster crowing! We want you to be happy wherever you stay! The cabin has a driveway to the front door and is accessible by 3 stairs onto the porch. It's perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring and listening to the quiet sounds of the country. We have found that our guests are interested in having some local amenities available upon check-in. We love to make our guests comfortable, so have put together a variety of packages for you to select from upon confirmation of reservation. (If you'd like to see the packages ahead of time, please just send us a message here). There is NO SMOKING on the property, inside or outside. On the main level of the cabin, you will find a kitchenette (compact oven, microwave, coffee pot, refrigerator and sink), dining/living area, the bedroom and bathroom. There is also a loft with an additional full size bed, accessed by a sturdy ladder. Please note that the cabin is on the edge of the woods, and you may encounter wildlife while here :).

About

Renowned for its rare “fairy stones,” this forested park is hemmed in by the fabled peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Immerse yourself in Elvin legends on a guided ranger walk or head down to the Staurolite Hunt Site to scavenge for your own fairy stones (yes, they do exist!). Once you’ve had your fill of magic, simple pleasures await at Fairy Stone Lake. Paddle in a rowboat, SUP, or kayak; sink your toes into the sand at the swimming beach; or fish for bass and trout. Fairy Stone State Park Campground has cabins, yurts, tent/RV sites, and equestrian sites. 

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve campsites, cabins, and yurts online, Minimum stays are in place for cabin rentals.
  2. Campsite and cabin reservations open 11 months in advance and must be made one day before arrival.  
  3. Campsites book up fast on summer and holiday weekends. Book a minimum of three months in advance to snag a spot.

When to go

Activities are seasonal at Fairy Stone State Park. The swimming beach opens from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, while the lake is stocked with trout in October, making winter one of the best times to fish. Hiking and horseback riding are possible year-round, weather depending. Camping season runs from early March through early December, while cabins are available year-round. 

Know before you go

  • Fairy Stone State Park is set about 90 minutes north of Winston-Salem by car.
  • Day-use parking fees and camping reservation fees are charged at Fairy Stone. State fishing licenses and equestrian permits are also required, and a daily fee for swimming pool access applies (this is included for campers).
  • Facilities include a conference center, swimming beach, restrooms, and picnic areas. Cell phone service is unreliable throughout the park.
  • Paddleboats, kayaks, and other watercraft are available for rent in season. Swimming is allowed only in designated areas.
  • Fairy Stone features accessible campsites, cabins, restrooms, picnic areas, and fishing areas.
