Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Rooster Rock State Park adventure.

Located just 20 miles east of Portland, the park offers three miles of sandy beachfront along the Columbia River, including a separated clothing optional beach. On the other end of the park, a peaceful lagoon is ideal for fishing beneath the park’s namesake basalt column. When the east wind gusts down the Columbia Gorge, windsurfers flock here to take advantage of whitecaps. Several trails, two disc golf courses, and multiple picnic areas offer things to do on land. Camping is not permitted at the park, though campgrounds can be found at Ainsworth State Park (10 miles to the east) or Government Island (to the west, accessible by boat only).
Summer is peak season, when beachgoers and picnickers flock here to enjoy the water and amenities at the park. Visit outside of peak season or during the week to escape the crowds. Fall is a great to visit to go leaf peeping, while winter is a popular time for windsurfing, when the winds pick up.
