Recent Hipcampers say this Hipcamp is romantic.
Marmot House is a lush 13 acres of mostly old growth forest in the foothills of Mt. Hood, right on the Historic Oregon Trail. It is close to hiking, biking, and forested waterfalls a short drive away. We have beautiful short hikes on trails in our forest on the property. Each campsite is tucked in the woods and has access our communal fire pit at our gathering space, where campfires are available (unless fire danger is at the extreme level) even when all other campgrounds are restricted. Our well water tastes amazing! The is not a developed campground, it is our home. We see ourselves as stewards of this hidden forest gem and welcome people to enjoy its beauty. This season we will open a farm stand for campers with produce from our garden and delicious baked treats for sale.

This site is a cleared and flattened space close to the parking area that has room for many tents. You are welcome to set up a small cooking area at your tent as well as share the large picnic table. This is a hostel style campsite, so others might be also camping in this shared tent area. Each booking is for ONE TENT ONLY. Communal campfires available at the Gathering Space as well as tables for cooking and eating. The one and half miles of trails through our old growth forest is available for you to explore as well. The Marmot Recreation Area (Sandy River) access is two miles down the road, (we have no river access on the property).

This lovely spot is tucked inside a cluster of cedars and elders right near the entrance to the old growth trail system and the trail to the gathering space (and outhouse). There is room at this site for one large tent (not multiple) and chairs and has a picnic table. A garden cart is provided to carry your gear the short walk from the parking (you cannot drive to the site).

Nestled among Oregon Grape, Snowberry, and Huckleberry bushes this site feels cozy and private, though it's large enough for two tents. The picnic table can hold your camp stove for cooking and your family for dinner. It's tucked away, yet right off the path to our extensive old growth trail system. Campfires and the outhouse are at the communal Gathering Space. A garden cart is provided to carry your gear from the parking lot (you cannot drive to the site). We are a short drive from the Marmot Recreation area on the Sandy River. We are also close to hiking and biking, waterfalls, Mount Hood summit views, as well as world class windsurfing and waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge.

The Lovers

Tucked under old growth cedar and fir trees that have grown up together. Right at the entrance of our forest paths. This is our smallest site and has no picnic table, but you are welcome to use the communal "Gathering Space" tables. Has the best views of the old growth of any site.

Surrounded by snowberry bushes and ferns, this is our largest sites with room for more than one tent. It is very close to the communal Gathering Space (there might be others there enjoying the campfire). The Gathering Space has large tables and chairs, as well as the fire pit everyone shares. The Social Site is also the closest to the Pallet Palace (the outhouse, which has a very quiet door). A garden cart is provided to carry your gear from the parking lot (you cannot drive to the site). Right off your site you can hook up to our trail system into the deep forest.

It is near the entrance to the old growth trail system. There is room at this site for one small tent (7'x9')(not multiple) and has a separate space for the living room and kitchen and has no picnic table. A garden cart is provided to carry your gear most of the way from the parking lot (you cannot drive to the site).

Sleep on the Oregon Trail. This small site is right at the entrance to our private old growth trail system, just off our driveway and near lightly traveled Marmot road, which was the Oregon Trail. You have access to our community fire pit and tables for cooking and eating as well as our extensive trail system. There is a discretely covered car behind the site, easily hidden from view with the right parking job. Thursday's at 7:30AM the trash truck comes by. Only propane fires at your site. We can accommodate a travel trailer with the right setup, contact us for details.

Huckleberry Cabin has a wonderful view of the old growth forest, with a covered porch perfect for lingering. Solar lights provide interior lighting. It's insulated but has no heat source or running water. The bed is a new air mattress. Bring your own bedding, or bedding can be purchased as an add on. The outhouse, communal fire pit, parking and the drinking water are all a short walk away. You can enter the old growth trail system from your own private trail straight off the porch.

This is a really nice spot! We stayed one night in the cabin. It's simple and small but very pleasant. The forest was absolutely beautiful! Jim was kind and helpful. Would love to come stay here again and explore the trails.

We had a great time camping at the Forest Haven spot. Arehn came right out to meet us when we arrived even though I didn't do a great job of communicating our arrival ETA. She gave us a tour of the property and was super helpful. I did have a little bit of cell service. Didn't get a chance to check out the hiking trails on the property but would definitely stay again and see those.

Got the vibe that all of the other reviews on this site are from their friends trying to boost their ratings. It had no curtains, hardly a functional door, no sheets, no pillows, stink bugs and spiders in every corner of the room, no electricity, and tons of creepy sounds at night. Without a doubt, the worst place I have ever had the misfortune of staying. Marmot as a recreational area, along the river is gorgeous, but abandoned. Don't go here unless you want to feel a mix of isolation and terror.

I enjoyed my stay very much - greeted by the hosts and was immediately excited about the lay out. My site allowed for my tent ans hammock and was private and cozy. Would definitely stay again and would love to enjoy a campfire in the gathering spot.

What a lovely property! Arehn & Jim were the perfect hosts. Everything was well laid out. There were marked spaces for parking, a cart to haul stuff to your site, and a water source. We stayed in the Social space which was conveniently close to the outhouse and communal fire pit. We looked around and liked all of the camping spots. Each was unique and artfully tucked away. The woods were very beautiful. We had a great time and would highly recommend camping here.

Arehn and Jim are like old friends at this point but one thing that stands out about them and the camp grounds, is they are ALWAYS improving! This is just wild for me to understand as it’s already perfect but I’ve been coming here for over a year and in interesting weather but every single time there’s something new and added or just a little change that showed care❤️

Arehn & Jim’s land was exactly the kind of peaceful getaway we were hoping for. The property is beautiful, quiet, and well cared for, with plenty of space to relax and enjoy nature. Arehn & Jim were welcoming, communicative, and made sure we had everything we needed while still giving us privacy. Future Hipcampers should expect a more laid-back, nature-focused experience rather than a polished campground vibe — which honestly made it feel even more special. Great spot for unwinding, enjoying the outdoors, and disconnecting for a bit. We’d definitely stay again.

Just the nicest people with the best energy offering a very simple cabin. I arrived late, and Jim and Ahren went above and beyond to accommodate me. Their patch of old growth was buzzing with native bees sampling the pioneer violets, trillium and wood sorrel when I visited in the spring. All the facilities were clean and accessible. A very, very pleasant place to do some thinking

The cabin had a beautiful view of the trees and the air mattress was large and comfortable. Simple amenities, solar lamps and no other electricity. A small table and chairs. A short walk to the pit toilet and shared fire pit. It seemed like we were the only ones besides Jim on the land for our stay and it was super quiet. It would be really great if there was another outside chair or a taller outside table to use the campstove, but we managed just fine and had a very nice stay.

Everything is always perfect here minus the weather which the hosts have zero control over and my kiddo and I love the brutality of being in it! As well as the hosts asking if we need anything and even go far as giving us a staging area without being asked:) then we said we don’t need a staging area in the rain. Which… I hoped they wouldn’t listen but they did and that just made us stronger campers in lol not the best camping conditions. Love this place and coming back tomorrow, after a two week gap😘

Been here in the best weather and the worst so far , but the hosts were super awesome to setup a rain shelter without asking. How much better customer service can you get?!?!? It rained quite successfully and my kiddo and I got amazing sleep at such a comfy place we travel to as often as time allows us. Thank you both again and again!

Me and two friends decided to take a very last-minute camping trip, and Arehn and Jim were so flexible and welcoming about us coming on such short notice. At first we didn’t realize the campsite was right outside their home—it feels a bit like camping in someone’s backyard—but their setup is really beautiful! They have a cozy campfire area, a nice gathering spot, and the campsite itself was just what we needed. The owners are incredibly kind and even helped us out when our generator wasn’t working. Overall, it was a great stay and we’re grateful for their hospitality!

Not sure how many times we stayed here already but we will keep coming back as it just gets better and better! The hosts are awesome and the entire layout rocks! The road is fun and safe to drive to get there, the scenery is amazing. Sweet fire pit as well as firewood access. Clean outhouse. Drinking water easily available and clean!!!

My friend and I recently went camping at Marmot and stayed at Arehn and Jim’s Hipcamp. They were both so welcoming, kind and thorough in their explanation of the campsite. They also rent out some camping gear, including a propane campfire which we are so glad to have had! With the open fire ban in effect, it was really nice to still have the option to have a fire. The camp also had the cleanest porta potty I’ve ever used. If you go, bring headlamps as it get dark at night and the trails aren’t lit. We wish we would have stayed for 2 nights!
