Accessible with any vehicle. The property is located right off U-23, 7 Miles from Mackinaw City. Bring your bikes and ride from camp to Mackinaw City (7-8 miles) on the Northeastern Bike Trail. The Barbara Hoffius Nature Preserve is only a half-mile away and has great trails to the beach. These simple campsites are PACK IN PACK OUT. We don’t have any services. There is the Mackinaw Straits roadside park one mile west which has well water and a public bathroom. Table and chairs and a fire pit are provided. Feel free to scavenge for deadfall firewood. Please don’t cut any trees down for any reason. Also, check with the DNR for fire risk. Do not burn during high risk of fire. The location can't be beaten, if you want to visit the Mackinaw Area but need space from the crowds. It will not disappoint.

Jeannie & I loved Phil & Stormy's Place. It was quiet this time of year, and we were lucky to be the only folks at their Camp. They definitely had made it their own, and have great amenities. Firewood & Firepit, 30 amp service, a water hose , picnic table & dry kindling.. 2 Porta Potties on site, and a RV cleanout. Great Wooden games around the site for folks enjoyment. Phil is a world renown Game maker who makes Games and interesting items, which he makes in his shop on site. Sends it all around the world. Besides meeting Phil and Chit chatting, because we are both Hip Camp Hosts, Phil gave us a tour of his Shop and woodworking area. Pretty impressive. He was a great host, and is Passionate about Kubb, a Yard game that was originally played overseas, but because of Phi, brought the game to the US. He actually has his own playing field. We plan on visiting again, as we loved the vibe

I surprised my husband with our stay at the Cabin Tent. To say he was pleased would be an understatement. The owners were exceptionally accommodating of our late check-in. They gave great directions to the site. We had opted for the bedding upgrade and found the bed made up with extra blankets at the foot of the bed in case we needed them. They had even set up the fire pit for us, so all we had to do was light it after we arrived. Our only disappointment was that we couldn’t stay longer. We would definitely stay here again.

You truly are sitting lakefront. I sat on a couple of boulders and just watched the waves. So incredibly peaceful. Instructions were clear and directions were easy to follow. One thing I will note is that you truly are rural - there is a grocery store and a few food options, but it's limited. Of you are an early riser, know that many of the food establishments open later. The site is absolutely gorgeous. I simply could not have asked for a better experience.

I loved the view! Granted it was very windy the day I stayed there so that’s something to consider since your by lake. Very easy to get to the site and overall pretty clean. Had some clutter here and there but not a big deal. My only major critique is one, maybe put stone down on the path to the beach because it had really deep ruts and it was very muddy. I got my car stuck quite a few times. The other is the shower water did not really get warm. Again, not the end of the world but addressing those few things would make the site even better than it already is. Overall I’d give it an 8/10

Accessible with any vehicle. The property is located right off U-23, 7 Miles from Mackinaw City. Bring your bikes and ride from camp to Mackinaw City (7-8 miles) on the Northeastern Bike Trail. The Barbara Hoffius Nature Preserve is only a half-mile away and has great trails to the beach. These simple campsites are PACK IN PACK OUT. We don’t have any services. There is the Mackinaw Straits roadside park one mile west which has well water and a public bathroom. Table and chairs and a fire pit are provided. Feel free to scavenge for deadfall firewood. Please don’t cut any trees down for any reason. Also, check with the DNR for fire risk. Do not burn during high risk of fire. The location can't be beaten, if you want to visit the Mackinaw Area but need space from the crowds. It will not disappoint.

The image of The Mackinac Bridge stretching its spine over Lake Huron is postcard worthy. The rad part? This epic postcard image will follow you from the hiking trails, to the campgrounds or the viewing platform. Enjoy the relaxing views of boats slowly traveling under the bridge from the shoreline picnic area. Mackinac Island is a sweet four mile ferry ride where you can hit up the gift shop and exit to the restaurant. A common destination among campers is the Tahquamenon Falls (because not chasing waterfalls is so outdated). There are two huge group use areas for day use and a modern campsite with full-hookups and stacked with over two hundred and fifty spots. There are only fifteen waterfront sites so be sure to call ahead to get the site you want!

When to go

The ideal time to visit Straits State Park is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the park is in full bloom. Conversely, winter can be harsh, with heavy snowfall limiting access to certain areas and activities.

We really don’t have anything to add to the other excellent reviews. Responsive, friendly, helpful host. Impeccable directions to get there and find our site. Awesome little private campground, full of nice touches (free firewood and a sealed tote of dry kindling, garbage can, picnic table with umbrella, raised fire ring with grate, potties and shower, and fun looking yard games which we sadly did not have time for). Very clean and tidy, even though the area recently had horrible ice storms. Oh, and electric and water hookups! Sewer dump on site as well. We only used it as a sleepover spot while traveling, but we would definitely go back there to stay if we make it back to visit the area. It’s also only a few minutes from hwy 75 for convenience.

Straits Campground
Great lakeside location just over the Mackinac bridge and less than 5 minutes from St Ignace. Camped here for a night on our way to Taquemenon Falls on a summer Thursday and enjoyed our stay. Sites were nicely spaced even with 2 cars on one site. 2 picnic tables and a fire pit per site. They were set up in a loop with the bathrooms in the middle. There are a few 1 bedroom cabins available as well.
