Sweet Song Acres

4 sites 路 RVs, Tents100 acres 路 NH
Sweet Song Acres is 100+ acres of secluded forest nestled along the Little Sugar River, at the base of Perry Mountain. Located in rural Unity, NH and Charlestown, NH, just across the Vermont state line. Southernmost point, located in Charlestown is one of two campsites. The other is Shady Grove, located in Unity. The two sites, located in bordering towns share the same entrance and are connected by a 1/4 mile trail. Both are very large sites. Campers would drive to both sites down a trail so we highly recommend a vehicle with decent clearance and 4WD or AWD. Southernmost Point is a fully drive-in site. Shady Grove campers park above the site and the campsite is down a short path, just a few hundred feet or so. The property consists of varied terrain of rock ledges, lush moss, streams, and panoramic views at the summit. There are many options of local outdoor activities in the area or if you prefer, just sit and "listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock your soul".

The best camping near Lake St. Catherine State Park guide

Overview

About

You can come to Lake St. Catherin in Poultney, Vermont for the fly-fishing and the mountain views, but it might just be the fields of wildflowers that capture your heart. The beaches on the lake are sandy so little ones can have their sand castle experience and adults do say 鈥淓W!鈥 when going for a dip. In the spring and summer, the forests will be lush green and in the fall, will turn brilliant shades of orange and yellow. It鈥檚 a great family spot with all sorts of flotation possibilities--rowboat, canoe, kayak, or pedal boat your way around the lake without having to BYOB (bring your own boat). Rentals are available right on site! Formerly an old quarry town, you鈥檒l still see some rubble and slate mill remains in the area as a reminder of its geologic glory.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as campsites tend to fill up quickly during peak seasons.
  • Consider visiting during the weekdays for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Keep an eye on cancellation policies and check back regularly for newly available sites.
  • Explore nearby camping options to ensure you have a backup plan in case the park is fully booked.

When to go

The best time to visit Lake St. Catherine State Park is during the summer months, when the weather is warm and all park facilities are open. Spring and fall offer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, but some amenities may be limited. Winters can be harsh, with many areas inaccessible due to snow.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's operating schedule for current hours and any seasonal closures.
  • Review safety guidelines, especially if you plan to engage in water activities or hiking.
  • Accessibility varies across the park, so inquire ahead if you require special accommodations.
  • Day use fees apply, and passes can be purchased for frequent visits.
  • Pets are welcome in designated day use areas, but be sure to follow park rules regarding animals.
