Scenic Waterway

7 sites · RVs1 acre · North Port, FL
Friendly pets welcome. Spacious park-like waterfront setting of back yard, considered by most to be a safe area. Trash and recycle bins, bench swing, outside seating and tables, kayak launch on canal. Peak season is January and February when this area is extremely competitive to find camping. I don't consider my hosting service a business, but rather a cost shared meeting place. The city/county won't allow monthly; 30 days max, plus this is intended to be a meeting spot to assist travelers and meet new people, not for long term. Orderly and clean property: You and your RV / vehicle must be fairly presentable. No smoking on property. Your RV / vehicle must be in good condition and not in disarray; old vehicles OK if no visible duck tape, etc. No clothes lines. Host is 55, single, retired from a large variety of jobs to include two years in Army "intel" and has an interest in most everything, but please minimize talk about anyone's health problems. Diet is strictly healthy which mainly omits sugar and corn syrup. Have lived in a campervan six years full time from 2016 to 2021; traveled most of the U.S. to include Alaska but not Hawaii. Have visited popular Canadian areas. Have a 2018 Ford Transit customized high end campervan. Born in Ohio, grew up in Texas / Arkansas. Bought this Florida home in early 2021 that is energy efficient and withstands strong storms well, but not storm proof. Worked diligently for three years to upgrade and improve the property. Please note HipCamp does not allow me to see phone numbers, so if you type it in a message, I will not be able to call you.

The best camping near Fanning Springs State Park guide

Overview

About

We know people throw around the phrase “crystal clear water” all the time — but with Fanning Springs, no description is more apt. The spring stays at a cool 72-degrees year round, thanks to the 65 million gallons of water it pumps in daily. And like we said, the water is as clear as a freshly-windexed window — which makes it super easy to spot the manatees that float into the spring from time to time. So don your swim goggles, snorkel, or full-on scuba gear and take a dip. When you’re ready to dry off, try exploring the park’s nearly mile-long hiking trail that winds through hearty hardwoods and pines. Just be sure to watch your step; you’ll spot quite a few small sinkholes along the trail, which were formed when underground caverns collapsed. Since the spring sits right off of the Suwannee River, it’s a super popular spot for paddlers to launch from. And pro tip: Fanning Springs in only seven miles away from Manatee Springs, so paddling from spring to spring on the river makes a great trip.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Fanning Springs State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the park's beauty is at its peak. Summer months can be quite warm, making early morning the best time for activities. Winter offers cooler temperatures, though some amenities may be less available.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's operating hours, typically from 8:30am to 5pm, before planning your visit.
  • Ensure you're prepared for the natural environment; bring sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water.
  • Accessibility is a priority; inquire about available resources if needed.
  • Stay informed about any park closures or safety advisories prior to arrival.
  • Take advantage of the educational opportunities and programs offered to enhance your experience.
