There is evidence of civil war activity here and the old river ford is on our property. Creek and river access make this a beautiful, peaceful place that is full of life. The energy here is overwhelmingly positive. Our house was built in the 1850s and the neighboring farm was built shortly after—lots of history on this property. You will be able to camp right next to Glade Creek which is always cool, clean, and refreshing. Our goal with opening the land up for camping is to eventually phase out commercial farming on the property and transform it into woodlands using native plants and trees. This was my group’s second time camping at Smith Ridge, hosted by Matt. This time I had a bigger group (7 people, 5 tents, and room for more). We had a great time again, and the onsite firewood we were able to purchase kept us warm during the 25 degree weather! Another plus was the porta-potty across from where we parked so we didn’t have to dig a hole in the snow. My group will 100% keep returning to camp here!

Firewood was readily available, the outhouse was a plus and the drive from Montgomery county was a breeze. Easy to find site but definitely have an off road capable vehicle to cross the stream. Low slung sedans won't make it Camp site was clean, flat, and private. Only major criticism is easier access to the Porta John. You need to drive back across the stream to get to it as the sewer pipe cannot be used to walk across. Driving out isn't always a option with tents in the way. My other personal opinion is the fire ring could be bigger. Seemed too small for such a large site

My husband, myself, our kids and grandkids all met up at this amazing farm just overnight for a wonderful and rare campfire get together, but wished we had stayed longer. The grandkids loved all the animals but especially Zeus, the big, super sweet dog of the property! The expansive property accommodates RVs well with plenty of space to be private yet camp amongst the animals. Our camp host greeted us, got us set up with power, and told us all about the workings of the farm and all that was available to us on the property. These extras that you don’t normally get at most Hipcamp properties was really cool! A barn with a restroom and gathering area where chili was available the night we were there along with many homemade and local goodies like shortbread cookies, honey, dried lavender sachets and produce for purchase. We happily donated a small amount toward taking care of the rescued animals on the farm. A couple of our kids and their families live in the area so we will definitely be back! Thanks Juanita it was a pleasure!!

Would definitely camp here again. It’s great for large groups, and Matt the host was very welcoming. We especially appreciated the onsite firewood. $20 got us a beautiful fire burning from 3pm to midnight. Tables and seating were also on site so we were able to prepare our dinner to roast over the fire without haven’t to balance anything on our laps. To top the experience off, there was a spotless porta-potty at the edge of the camp’s boundary. Overall, this site was very well maintained and in a beautiful location.

It's no coincidence that a visit to Glen Echo feels just like adult summer camp. The park's long and unusual story imbues Glen Echo with a character and history unlike any anywhere else. Just nine miles from downtown Washington, D.C., this bastion of culture and arts really does have it all.

Glen Echo became the site of a Chautauqua assembly, a religious and cultural education program for adults. Years later, the site was purchased and converted into an amusement park, and later acquired by the National Parks Service. The stone amphitheater, historic carousel, and Spanish ballroom all offer a peek into this storied history.

Today, what you'll find is a unique center for culture and arts. Events such as Family Day, the Washington Folk Festival and Winter's Eve bring visitors together for concerts, dancing, and festivities. There's also ballroom dance classes, art workshops, and exhibitions.

The park's extensive programming and close proximity to D.C. make it the sort of place you'll visit again and again. While there's always something to do, it's best to plan ahead, as exhibitions and classes change frequently.
