We had a lovely James's property! The shed provided a nice break from the cold (the heater was really lovely), and everything was clean and very well maintained. As other reviews mentionrd, the porta-jon was spotless, and the motion activated lights were a really nice touch. James stopped by when we first arrived, and it was lovely to know we had a host who wanted to make sure we had everything we needed and that we were comfortable. I highly recommend this property!

I thought it would be a bit more secluded based on hipcamp’s suggestion but we had a very nice night there. It was certainly much more private than the state parks on the weekend. The porta potty was the nicest and cleanest we’ve ever seen. We didn’t have any need for the shelter or kitchen but I’m sure it’s nice to have the space in the colder months. Thanks James!

This was a great private spot near Cle Elum. The picnic table is covered with a waterproof tarp so it stays dry. Shed was very cute and had lots of appliances and cooking utensils. Porta potty was super clean, and it has a motion sensor light so you can see inside at night, which was much appreciated! We towed our (very) small camper trailer and were able to easily park it and maneuver it out when we left. A larger trailer would have a more difficult time. Overall really enjoyed the spot, and liked that it was such a close drive to get back in the highway to go home.

Overall, this is a really nice spot! Good fire pit, plenty of trees for hanging our hammocks, and level ground (gravel was great for drainage during rain). Although we were tent camping, we really enjoyed the little cabin space for storing our gear, especially when it rained! Having electricity, a mini fridge, and a microwave also came in very handy. The shade/rain cover over the picnic table came in clutch! We did add our own (temporary) ropes to hang a light/fan over the table and clipped our own tarp to one side for additional sun and rain protection. Our whole group agreed, the Porta-potty was the best maintained one we've ever used. Also the cabin having a small fridge was a nice touch and a useful place to store stuff.
The only real downside is that a pretty major road is very nearby, so traffic noises were fairly noticeable. Similarly, while there's plenty of VISUAL privacy, nearby neighbors (houses) could be heard with relative ease when they played music and ran a generator (the electricity in the area went out briefly during our stay).

It was such a peaceful and comfortable place to stay. My friend came in her van and I used the shed. It was so clean and cozy. The port a potty was the cleanest ever just like we had read. Great hiking nearby and fun places to eat in the area. Highly recommended .

The shed has 2 ladder access sleeping areas and loveseat pull out single cot. Microwave and electricity. For a backpacker this was luxery. Cover picnic table outside and porta potty with a motion sensor and LED light on the inside. Im pretty use to roughing it so this was nice. I chose this site since it was half mile from a birthday party I was attending for the weekend. While we didnt use all the amentities and it was more pricy that others sites in the area it was nice to have a roof over your head. A vaccum and broom are provider for easy clean up. Early season used -35 sleeping bags and were comfortable in noninsulated shed at Humbug. We were totally prepared for roughing it and didn't use half the items we packed however we were spending time with our family in the evenings and only utilizing for sleeping.

The site is right off the roadway, but this was only an advantage because there is very little traffic on the roadway itself. James was very friendly and attentive to us while maintaining a comfortable distance. He even offered us fresh mushrooms from the forest at breakfast! We hope to visit again!

Really great to have a mini indoor spot to use as well as tent and car camp space! Good outdoor table for group gatherings, with or without shade.
A little close to roads, so not as secluded deep in the woods, but great amenities and location to Cle Elum or Roslyn.

The Humbug Ranch is great. We stayed in the "shed" but has the feel of a Tiny Home. Plenty of room for 2-4 people. The futon is comfortable and we stayed warm with the space heater. Nice fire pit and wood available.

Great camping spot near Cle Elum! Such a nice setup and clearly well loved and well taken care of by Jim. We were looking for a way to go camping with a toddler and this was the perfect solution. Jim was incredibly friendly and hospitable as well. We’ll be booking again!

Fantastic, quiet camping spot. We camped in tents for one night, arriving very late at night around 3am. The spot was very easy to find using GPS even in the dark. There is a hipcamp sign near the entrance. The camping spot was very clean, the gravel lot is large and perfectly flat, and we were not bothered by any noise. Even though we didn't use the outhouses or building, they are a great addition. We will definitely stay here again!

Cute campsite with quality amenitie

Humbug Ranch is a cute little campsite with great amenities. We didn't think we would use the shed much but it was great to have even though it was not needed by us. We used it to lock up our stuff while we went on a day hike through the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area.
Jim is a great host and want to thank him for his hospitality! We will definitely come back for our next adventure around Cle Elum.

Great spot for family camping

We chose Jame's place for my 4yo nephew's first camping experience. Beautiful clearing with a shed that is stocked beyond the basics(Fridge, TV, cookware). The shed has space for up to 3 people to sleep inside, but we opted to camp outside for the experience.
This is a great option for families wanting to explore the nearby lakes(about 30 minutes away from Cle Elum and Kachess Lake).
Jame's was courteous and available if we had questions. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

Terrible hosts. Could not ever recommend this place when there is 100s of nearby public land spots to camp such as Salmon La sac, cooper lake or teanaway campground where you won't have a Karen breathing down your neck. This place plus horror stories i have heard in the past may have turned me and all my friends away from hip camp for good.

We loved this site and ended up extending our stay for a couple of days. It's a beautiful property and the host offered us extra wood, water and a cup of coffee! It's right off the highway and super easy to get to, and absolutely gorgeous, especially in the fall! Would definitely recommend and stay again if we are in the area.

Jim was the perfect host. Firewood and kindling were already cut and stacked, the lot was immaculate, and inside the shed was clean and organized. He came over and introduced himself and then left us alone.
The porta-john looked like it had never been used.
Probably the best hip-camp I’ve used, and the others have all been great.

Amazing Camping and Host!

This was our first time using HipCamp and right off I'd like to say that navigating the site is a breeze and booking a reservation was 100% hassle free. Our camp host James was very communicative and made sure all our questions were answered and that we had everything we needed for our stay. The area around Cle Elum is beautiful and James' property is located right in the middle of it all. The site is clean, quiet, and feels secluded even though you do have neighbors but there's a 1/2 acre of woods between you and the closest other house so you can't even see them. The Port-a-potty was also super clean and is lighted inside and out for when it gets dark out. There are RV hookups and two great spots for a tent. It was cold so we opted to sleep in the shed. The shed has every convenience you'd really need - a twin sized futon, two roomy lofts, lights, a fridge, tv and dvd player, space heater, fan, and multiple electrical outlets to charge all your devices. It's a dry camp so no water but the Yakama River is about a 1/2 mile away next to the Hwy exit and Cle Elum is just 4-5 miles away and there is a Safeway there with a water refill station (.50cents a gallon). There is a ton to do but if you like fly fishing, golf, hiking, biking, or rockhounding then you're going to love it. We stayed 5 days and managed 2 hikes a day every day, each somewhere new. This is a great spot, James was a great host, and this was a great trip. We highly recommend and plan to return :)
