We did not have a good experience with this listing. Quite frankly we felt taken for, given that you are directed into land that is within BLM land where camping is free, with no clear definition or boundary between the two. We followed the directions exactly as the host so in detail expressed and found nothing resembling a “base camp” — at the exact turn off point per the directions there was nothing but brush. A 1/3 mile before and 3/4ish mile after the point where “BASECAMP” was supposed to exist, there were sites where people had clearly boondocked, along with assortment of trash like empty lighter fluid and broken glass. There was a pile of painted fencing in burlap sacs by one of the fire rings and I don’t know if this was supposed to be the “free firewood pile” or not but it should not be burned.
To say basecamp suggests something there to signify a camp, like a sign, a cleared area, anything. We didn’t expect water or toilet etc, as it’s clearly dry “dispersed camping” but for a basecamp to have been emphatically expressed felt misleading. Also, the hot springs we looked forward to ended up being about an hour drive from where the camp should have been. As other hipcampers have reviewed it didn’t seem like adding that as a part of the camp was honest.
The land is undoubtedly beautiful and the host was communicative and kind, we just did not feel that the “camp” was worth 20$ Especially when you can camp for free all over BLM land, our bad.
