But today, those quarries are inactive, and instead of mining, a self-guided Slate History Trail leads hikers through the remnants of the bygone era.
Surrounding the quarries are the 3,576 forested acres of the park, which are located in the Taconic Mountains on the shores of Lake Bomoseen. After you get your history on, it’s time to get your exploration on. Taking a boat out on the lake is one of the most popular things to do, but the hike to nearby Half Moon State Park is a close contender. If you prefer to set your own trends, then by all means do it. Barefoot trail-running, lake-snorkeling…lead the way! Bomoseen State Park welcomes adventurous souls.

Bomoseen State Park has so much to offer, you’ll need at least a few days to take it all in. That’s where the campground comes into play! The campground offers plenty of tent and trailer camping, plus a few cozy lean-tos for rent.
