Tips for Snagging a Campsite Reservation
- Campsites and yurt reservations are available as early as six months in advance up until one day in advance. Reserve your spot online or over the phone through Oregon State Parks.
- If you're looking to reserve a specific site, a cabin, or a group site, you can search for the next available date or create an email alert to be notified when spots open up.
- Same-day campsites are sometimes available in person due to last-minute cancellations. Your chances of securing one of these sites increase the earlier you arrive.
When to Go
Sunset Bay State Park is open for day use and camping throughout the year, but things can get pretty cold and chilly outside of the summer months. July and August are particularly crowded, but once kids go back to school in September, things tend to calm down. If interested in whale-watching, consider visiting during one of the two migration seasons: December and January or April and May.
Know Before You Go
- The best place to pick up groceries and supplies is Coos Bay, a 20-minute drive away.
- Pets are welcome in the campground, and four pet-friendly yurts are available.
- The Cape Arago group camp is a three-mile drive from the main campground, while the Norton Gulch group camp is a short walk away.
