- Open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend - Grassy mowed area along the Sixes River on our cattle ranch and cranberry farm. We provide an outdoor shower and composting toilet shared by the 5 camp sites. The shower water is filtered water from a shallow well, but bring water to drink. This campsite lies about 1 mile from the pacific ocean at about 15 feet elevation so it will be cooler than inland camp sites. I believe we are the closest camping to the south side of the Blacklock Hiking Trails. Also next to the Cape Blanco State Airport. (call if you want to fly in and get transport to and from the campsite). Access Road is a single lane in and out (gravel, dirt, and grass). Any towed trailers need to be pulled by a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle to climb back out (in and out procedures for trailers will be provided) Bring a fishing pole or a kayak. Sea-run trout are in the river during the summer (no motorized vehicles allowed in the Sixes River by law. No motorized vehicles in campsite besides automobiles by rule.) - Please be accurate with the number of guests in your party. Please note about lack of signage: The "walters landing" and "92220" on airport road are the only markings to indicate our entrance. We don't want to put any "campground" signs to avoid curious trespassers into the property (we only want invited guests). Campsite Rules: 1. Enjoy. 2. No motorized vehicles besides your auto. 3. Make sure your fun doesn't detract from the fun had by other campers. 4. No illegal activity. 5. Clean up after your pet in the camp and river bank area or anywhere people will be walking or playing. 6. No unfriendly pets, even if they are on a leash. Must be safe with other children and pets and livestock.

We loved camping at Fennel Flats! My husband, 2 dogs, and I had a wonderful experience staying here for 3 nights. Site 1 is farther back down the field from the other sites, but still not a far walk from the bathroom and outdoor shower (both were wonderful). We had our own private walkway down to the river and the dogs loved swimming there! We had one issue when the dogs ran over a ground nest of yellow jackets, but as soon as we messaged camp host, Joe, he responded quickly and came down within minutes to handle the situation. He was very attentive and a friendly host. Highly recommend staying on his property!

I had a site in the orchard next to the porta potty. As long as you watch for the signs (the Fennel Flats sign is nailed to a tree) it's easy to find. There were other campers but everyone had their own space and it felt very private. It rained the night I arrived and I was only there one night but I'd recommend the site I had.

I’ve been using Hipcamp for many years all up and down the West Coast and this has to be one of the best places I’ve stayed. Care and craftsmanship can be seen in the toilet (composting)the shower(flash heated, beautifully situated), the spacing of the campsites and the pit fire pits themselves. All of it shows care and thoughtfulness. We were very happy at Fennel Flats.

A really lovely spot right on the river. Great location for birding — be on the lookout for herons, osprey, belted kingfishers, greater yellow legs, and cedar waxwings! The camping area is pretty open, but the sites are still far enough apart that they felt private.

This was our second time camping at Fennel Flats by the river, and it’s only gotten better! The site is super private with easy access to the water, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The fire pits are wide and well set up, and there was plenty of room for our two large tents without feeling crowded. They’ve also added gravel to the field you drive through, which made getting in and out much easier. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be coming back!

Fennel Flats is such a sweet spot! Joe's detailed instructions made finding the campsite very easy. The amenities are amazing--outdoor shower, composting toilet, and handwashing area are all clean and thoughtfully-designed. And even though several other groups were camping there, sites were far enough apart that we didn't hear much of the other folks. I'd definitely recommend this site and camp there again!

From the magical river to the abundance of amazing wildlife to the showers with a stunning view, this has been an absolute favorite camp site ever for us. My wife and two pups and myself had a fantastic time. The camp host Joe was helpful and friendly. The cows across the river bank were a welcome site and sound. Would recommend 100% will return in the future.

First the directions were very good. Got to my site without getting lost. A pleasant surprise was the accommodations. Campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, also water supply, firewood for sell and a well lit and constructed outhouse near by. The other sites were well spaced for privacy and socializing if desired. Loved the river and so did my dog Duke.

My 5 year old granddaughter and I had a great time here! The composting toilet was well built and not smelly at all ! (Huge bonus when you are camping with picky kid😍). Also we loved the outdoor shower overlooking the river!! Hot water outdoor shower = heaven! It is a great place to fly a kite, play soccer, baseball, frisbee- We had a wonderful visit!

Beautiful campground with a charming open and secluded feel. Very windy and not a lot of shade in our site, but it was often nice to experience so much sunlight and tactfully figure out how to keep things from blowing away. The trail that vehicles take to enter the campground also served as a short and rewarding uphill running/walking trail! Definitely a worthwhile stop on our west coast family summer vacation, and we hope to come again.

Quiet, campers were respectful of each other, pup enjoyed being off leash, well kept sites & property, Joe was super responsive, helpful. Can’t go wrong with any of the sites - they all have their pluses/negatives, but would happily stay at any. Love that there are only 5 sites, allows some privacy between campers. On site facilities clean & a big plus. Loved camping near river, bird watching, Star gazing once clouds rolled by, listening to the cows and cozy evening campfires. No trail to beach from camp, which was a bummer. Hiking trails near by that you can drive to & get down to beach. Mind the driving instructions to/from camp as one lane dirt road that is steep/narrow in places. Windy!! Foggy coastal mornings, windy days/evenings.

This is an unforgettable spot! It feels very remote and secluded, even though the dirt entry road is only a few miles long. And upon arrival it’s almost like a secret garden - spacious flat land surrounded by trees and bordered by a river teeming with fish, heron. The outdoor shower is private and beautiful with a view of the river, composting toilet immaculate and virtually odorless, sunset colors stunning, and just a 10 minute drive from the property there a phenomenal forest, cliff and ocean hike. Highly recommended!
