Once a dairy farm and part of the old Simpson estate our property offers mushroom picking seasonally whey you may find Chanterelle & Hedgehog mushrooms. We're close to the beach and the Sunset Bay Golf Course is on the same property. Lots of hiking trails and you can connect with Sunset Bay State Park our neighbor. We have a private, secluded campground that is wind sheltered with approximately 20 acres of space in which to use our covered table, picnic tables, fire pit, fire rings at individual campsites, BBQ, sauna and outdoor propane-fired shower. The camp area is tucked away among large spruce trees and open meadows which lead to endless trails on the property, with the option to buy a round of golf at Sunset Bay Golf Course, which is right next door to the camp area. We’re just short of a mile from Sunset Bay, where you will find kayaking, fishing and a great spot for kids. The Whiskey Run mountain bike trails are a short drive away and are truly world-class trails. The Sunset Bay State Park has a huge trail network that spans the cliff line all the way from Sunset Bay to Cape Arago. Chuck’s Seafood in Charleston is a great spot to pick up local seafood. BBQ some oysters on the grill or pick up some fresh fish and enjoy the bounty of the coast. Charleston, just 3.5 miles away, also has some great restaurants and local shops to truly make your stay memorable. Only friendly dogs allowed and leashed or under voice command.

We have a large Koi pond and garden area that we love to share with visitors if requested. There is 1 large area to camp depending on the size of your group and how many self contained Vehicles/RV's. The main camping area has enough room for about 2 large RV's or 3 smaller RV's depending on the size.  We like to allow for turn around room and pretty much let you set up camp however you like.  There is some overflow parking if needed across the property near our shop for an additional $5 charge per vehicle which we can discuss.  We do not have a toilet facility, so you must be self contained.  Pricing is $60 per night per RV.  We are approximately 1.8 miles from Hwy 101 across from the Myrtlewood factory in Hauser.  We are close to the dunes and Horsefall beach.  This is dry camping with water available via hose from our house if needed.  Fire season may be in effect depending on the season. (See restrictions.) If you do reserve with us, please make sure you reserve according to how many RV's in your group.  Please be courteous when making reservations and try not to cancel last minute. If you have additional questions, please call or send me a message. We like to let people know that there are a lot of deer passing through all the time and they do leave droppings everywhere that we cannot control, so please be aware.  Pets must be on a leash at all times please. - Open Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend - Grassy mowed area along the Sixes River on our cattle ranch and cranberry farm. We provide an outdoor shower and composting toilet shared by the 5 camp sites. The shower water is filtered water from a shallow well, but bring water to drink. This campsite lies about 1 mile from the pacific ocean at about 15 feet elevation so it will be cooler than inland camp sites. I believe we are the closest camping to the south side of the Blacklock Hiking Trails. Also next to the Cape Blanco State Airport. (call if you want to fly in and get transport to and from the campsite). Access Road is a single lane in and out (gravel, dirt, and grass). Any towed trailers need to be pulled by a 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle to climb back out (in and out procedures for trailers will be provided) Bring a fishing pole or a kayak. Sea-run trout are in the river during the summer (no motorized vehicles allowed in the Sixes River by law. No motorized vehicles in campsite besides automobiles by rule.) - Please be accurate with the number of guests in your party. Please note about lack of signage: The "walters landing" and "92220" on airport road are the only markings to indicate our entrance. We don't want to put any "campground" signs to avoid curious trespassers into the property (we only want invited guests). Campsite Rules: 1. Enjoy. 2. No motorized vehicles besides your auto. 3. Our property has elderberry, blackberry, huckleberry, mulberry, thimbleberry, salmonberry, currants… mushrooms, many wild edible plants and wild life! Siltcoos Lake has 2 boat ramps, 1 restaurant, 1 bar, 1 store, and boat rentals. The restaurant/bar/store (Darlings) will deliver, by boat, to your campsite for $10 !!! $20 minimum as of 2022. Or drive/boat over to Darlings for their well known friendly atmosphere and great food served inside or on their heated deck! Sorry no ATV use on property at this time. For large events some extra arrangements may be possible, just ask. We look forward to sharing our piece of our heaven with you.

The park at Loon Lake was an absolute paradise for every outdoor enthusiast! RV campsites and tent sites are spacious, the views from every campsite are majestic with the mountains surrounding you. it’s just a short walk to your private entry to the Loon Lake where the owner of the property has paddle boards, kayaks etc…Everything you could want for a day out on the water! There is a gorgeous tree with comfy chairs where you can view the lake and the surrounding mountains it is absolutely breathtaking. Peter, the owner likes to be considered the Stewert of this property and is very attentive to all your needs. He is happy to introduce you to his goats, horses and family of labs!!! Peter has a beautiful mission statement, which is all proceeds go to children with disabilities! I would definitely recommend this Hipcamp to anyone who likes peace and quiet. It is truly a beautiful escape with your family. We are definitely going to book again and share our story with our friends so that everyone can enjoy this special place on earth.

We had a great time camping next to the river. The outhouse was the nicest one we’ve ever been in and the property is beautiful. The road isn’t too far away, but traffic is infrequent and didn’t bother us. Lisa was very communicative and her husband was extremely friendly, making us feel welcome and safe. We will definitely stay here again if in the area. It is about 20 minutes to a nice beach at the state park.

I’ve been using Hipcamp for many years all up and down the West Coast and this has to be one of the best places I’ve stayed. Care and craftsmanship can be seen in the toilet (composting)the shower(flash heated, beautifully situated), the spacing of the campsites and the pit fire pits themselves. All of it shows care and thoughtfulness. We were very happy at Fennel Flats.

I had a site in the orchard next to the porta potty. As long as you watch for the signs (the Fennel Flats sign is nailed to a tree) it's easy to find. There were other campers but everyone had their own space and it felt very private. It rained the night I arrived and I was only there one night but I'd recommend the site I had.

A really lovely spot right on the river. Great location for birding — be on the lookout for herons, osprey, belted kingfishers, greater yellow legs, and cedar waxwings! The camping area is pretty open, but the sites are still far enough apart that they felt private.

Five stars, 10/10, hurrahs all around for The Park at Loon Lake! Our family of four had an amazing Monday–Friday stay at Cove #2 in mid-August. We were incredibly lucky to discover this Hipcamp during a quiet week before word of its splendor inevitably spreads. The solitude may not last, but the gracious hospitality and breathtaking setting certainly will! Host: Peter is a kind, gentle steward of the land and his guests. He reached out when we were delayed by car trouble, greeted us personally, explained everything, and checked in unobtrusively throughout our stay. A genuinely wonderful host. The Setting: The photos are accurate, but somehow still undersell this gorgeous, sprawling valley meadow. There are no bad angles! The campsites at the water’s edge are especially peaceful. This end of Loon Lake was glassy calm and warm enough to float for hours. Paddleboards and kayaks can launch from several points along the creek and marsh to access the lake. The property is huge, with trails and little nooks to explore. Campsites are large, but this isn’t the place for privacy when full—and sound travels surprisingly far in the enclosed valley. A few notes: There’s very little shade, so summer can be hot despite the breeze. Bring awnings! It’s pack-in/pack-out, Wifi is available in the barn and plentiful water is available but must be filtered for drinking. If you haven’t discovered TPALL yet, I hope this conveys some of its magic. Once you’ve been, you’ll understand!

Overview

About

Cliffs and coves look out over the rocky isles of Cape Arago in this state park. Take in the views with a drive around the Cape Arago Beach Loop, which takes in the neighboring Sunset Bay and Shore Acres state parks, as well as Cape Arago Lighthouse. Two hiking trails run through the park—follow the North Trail to spot seals and sea lions around Shell Island or the South Trail to explore tidepools and enjoy beachcombing and fishing along the beach. Camping isn’t permitted in the park, but there are options around Bastendorff Beach, a 10-minute drive north.

When to go

Cape Arago is accessible year-round, but coastal walks are exposed to the elements, so be prepared for windy weather even in summer. Expect crowds if visiting during July and August or on bank holiday weekends—an early start will ensure you snag a parking spot. Whale watching is best during the annual migration periods from March through May and mid-December through January. The North Trail is closed annually from March through June during the seal pupping season.

Know before you go

Cape Arago State Park is set 15 miles southwest of Coos Bay, or about a 25-minute drive along the Cape Arago Highway. You’ll need your own vehicle, as there’s no public transport, but free parking is available at the trailheads.
Facilities within the park include restrooms and picnic tables, but you’ll need to bring everything else with you. Shops and restaurants can be found within a 10-minute drive. Head to Coos Bay to stock up on supplies.
Wildlife watching is a highlight in this state park, so pack your binoculars.
