You will need boots just below the knee, or hiking shoes that will get wet. The Creek crossing is a little deeper this year. You will also be crossing a muddy area for about 20 yards, you will sink about 3 inches into the mud. The hike into the campsite takes 12 minutes. You need to contact me to check the tides, as to be able to get to the campsite. We need to hike in below a 5 foot tide. Starting October, the campsite closes for winter. Retreat to relax at Chuckanut Hills Farm and Campground, a 20-acre energy-regenerative, off-grid family farm nestled at the foot of Anderson Mountain and surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. 30 minutes south of Bellingham in the Chuckanut Mountains, the only finger of the Cascade Mountain Range that reaches all the way to the Salish Sea. This wooded forest is part of the Puget Lowland Forest Eco-Region. These hills were the native home of the Saquantch people, a Salish coast tribe that fished and hunted the mountains surrounding Lake Whatcom. They lived in long lodge homes and were later pushed out by the invading Lummi Tribe. The Lummi Tribe was later pushed out by Western logging companies, and the entire mountainous region was heavily logged for a number of years. Where our farm now rests was once the second of many logging camps built by Ed English, and he cut our gravel farm road in 1900; a railroad ran through the lower part of our property, taking logs from Lake Whatcom down to the little boom town of Seattle. Our intention while being caretakers of this ancestral land is to restore native plants, raise heirloom produce and heritage animals, and provide a restful nature paradise for people looking to spend time in the outdoors.

Even closer is Whitehorse Regional Trail (great for biking, walking and horseback riding) built on the bed of the former BNSF railroad through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, spanning over 27 miles. The nearly level trail meanders through the valley, rewarding visitors with picturesque, landscape views of forests, farmland, streams and rivers, and mountain vistas. Sites have a generous fire pit and access to a Porta-Potty. For bathing I recommend cool dip in the Stillaguamish River. In season there is also fishing, snowshoeing, concerts at the blue grass festival grounds, a rodeo, and so much more.

We live on a beautiful farm tucked in the foothills of the North Cascades. We are a multi-generational farm with chickens, a giant organic garden, a couple of horses [pasture pets], three dogs, a couple of barn cats [and one prissy house cat]. We also raise 100% grass-fed and finished cattle utilizing regenerative farming practices.We have a beautiful private mountain view pasture that we can not use to graze the cattle, so we decided to make it available for folks to have a gorgeous private campsite. All the money we make from this campsite goes back into our family farm and our endeavors to provide excellent beef for those who value small family farms and regenerative farming practices.

I stayed in the Willow Cabin for two nights over the Thanksgiving holiday, and it was exactly the peaceful reset I was hoping for. I arrived after 9pm, and even in the dark, the property felt welcoming with its whimsical lighting guiding the way. Reg, the host, was there to greet me and walk me through everything — from the cozy cabin setup to the full outhouse bathroom and the little kitchen area with a fridge for essentials. The cabin itself is simple and calming, with a twin and a queen bed, both with fresh linens. Reg had the space heater going before I arrived, which was such a thoughtful touch. Since I stayed during the colder season, I was grateful I brought a heated blanket, and I’d recommend others do the same that time of year. The water straight from the tap was incredibly fresh and delicious, truly something you don’t get in the city — just a small detail that made the stay feel even more special. What really stood out to me was the beauty and quiet of the property. Reg genuinely encourages guests to wander and explore, and it made the whole stay feel more personal and grounding. It’s the perfect spot for anyone wanting to unplug, reflect, and enjoy a truly low-amenity, chill cabin experience. And I have to mention this — the shower water pressure and heat were amazing. Truly a highlight! If you know you enjoy a simple, peaceful, back-to-basics kind of stay, Willow Cabin is such a gem. I’d absolutely return.

Weekend Trip to Camp Keyser Forest Camp

Second time staying here, and it’s one of my favorite local get aways. You feel so secluded, but it’s only 90ish minutes from Seattle. Bed is ridiculously comfy, and it’s a great way to reset off grid. Lots of great hikes nearby, too. It’s definitely cosy, so recommend preparing food in advance so you can easily cook without tripping over each other. You’re close to a highway so you’ll hear car noise, but it doesn’t bother us at all. The lane is quiet and a great walk with the dog in the am to see the cows

Reg’s hundred acre wood is a charming mix of huts and outbuildings new and old. The vegetation overgrowth and misty air conceal various construction materials and antiques around the property. Dishes and coffee are available, and the BBQ worked as long as you can squeeze into the narrow place where it’s situated. The washroom is cute, the kitchen is slated for demolition, and the cabin we stayed in was warm. Reg was enthusiastic about showing us around the property, and introducing us to the sheep.

Ian is an inspiration, and staying on his property is more than just a fun adventure, it helped my family disconnect from our busy lives and reconnected with nature and each other. Although the barn is rustic and open, it still stood up to the rainy cold weather and allowed us to extend our camping season. We enjoyed the fire pit while we could, and we were happy to have the covered outdoor kitchen as well. The composting toilet was a unique experience somehow making even a bathroom trip a bit magical as it provides for privacy while also giving you a view of the beautiful forest. Seeing what he has been able to transform this space into, has already inspired us to start our own projects. Ian's passion is contagious! The kids truly enjoyed the play area with the zipline, swings and giant seesaw! We will be planning another trip here for sure and we are looking forward to checking out the other lodging options and or the camping sites. Maybe we will get lucky enough for a warm summer adventure and enjoy swimming in the pond. Ian was very welcoming and full of great info. Anyone would be lucky to get to experience some time here!

40 miles NW of the camp site is Baker Lake and it's excellent for kayaking, swimming and boating.

What a lovely experience! Beth was so communicative and answered our questions. The yurt had a super cozy bed! You can stay here even if it’s chilly - the evenings were cold BUT the accessible campfire and super warm and cozy bed kept us warm! It is absolutely feasible in chillier weather, just be prepared! Her husband helped us out with some firewood as we hadn’t had a chance to buy any and he also kindly shared some homegrown apples with us on our way out! Clean bathroom, peaceful environment, and 2 lovely dogs! Will absolutely stay again when we find ourselves in the area. Thanks! :)

Weekend Trip to Greenstone Farm Camping

My husband and I enjoyed staying at Greenstone Farms. The farm and the view are quite beautiful. We had fresh eggs for breakfast which was lovely. The horses visited us before headed home. The restroom was very clean and nice and had a heater which was nice since it was raining the night we showed up. We would have stayed longer but my husband wanted his recliner for the Mariners playoff game. I didn’t foresee that obstacle.

Weekend Trip to Hobson Meadows

Two of us stayed here for one night. We live in Seattle and it was a perfect place to stay after spending the day in Bellingham. We arrived after sunset and our host quickly came outside to help guide us to our yurt, which was so appreciated. It was raining on and off throughout our stay, but we stayed dry and the bed was unexpectedly comfortable. The only suggestion I have is to add another large rug inside for warmth and coziness. We’ll be back again, hopefully for longer!

Reg has created a very cool space on his property. We loved staying in the analogue room, it felt very private and the bed was really comfortable! There’s a cozy washroom with a clawfoot tub and hot water and a kitchen both only a few steps away. The property itself is stunning! Lots of hiking to explore and a volcanic grotto that had some of the most incredible rocks I’ve seen. This place is magic!

The seclusion is so nice for sleeping in!

It’s a nice property! Beautiful area. Showers and bathrooms were a win after a long day of fishing. Store/ restaurant were just minutes away (convenient). There was a variety of options from host, from tent camping to glamping. Host was very responsive and helpful. Thank you!
