Weekend Trip to Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

We are beyond grateful to have found Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest. Our whole group (3 families, 13 guests, 7 kids) had the best weekend here — rain and all! We all booked separate sites but all of them were awesome! Loved the location of Alder Meadow which was conveniently across a playground, game shack, near the outhouse and between 2 other sites. Margaret is a truly wonderful host. From the moment we booked until we checked out, she was attentive, warm, and incredibly thoughtful. Each site is clearly set up with care — covered shelters, firepits, and well-maintained outhouses (trust us, they’re nothing like what you’re imagining — super clean and easy to use thanks to her clear instructions). The Game Shack was a hit with the kids, and having firewood, the Snack Shack, and fun add-ons available made our stay even more enjoyable. Margaret also provides a very handy welcome pack, which answered most of our questions — but she’s also super quick to respond if you reach out. She truly made everything feel effortless. The surrounding trails are absolutely stunning, and the kids loved running through the open hay fields. It felt like a perfect blend of rustic charm and thoughtful comfort. We had such an amazing time and are already planning our return. Thank you, Margaret!

Weekend Trip to Rusty Ranch Tree Farm and Forest

I honestly think the name of the ranch should be changed to The Magical Forest. There’s something truly special about this place. It feels like stepping into a dream. Margaret has thought of everything to make sure your stay is easy, cozy, and unforgettable. Our group of friends, three families in total, came on a rainy weekend and still had the best time. We each booked our own site, and the covered structures on the property were a game-changer. We set up our tents under them and moved the picnic tables aside. Without that cover, we would’ve been soaked and probably had to leave early. The kids had a blast with all the space to run around and play, and they especially loved the playground. What a plus that there was plenty of space between each campsite too. The Snack Shack was such a thoughtful touch. Margaret brought us firewood when we needed more and made payment super easy. She even left a complimentary bundle for us when we arrived. We also picked up some farm-fresh eggs that were absolutely beautiful and delicious. We brought our own shower and toilet, but the composting toilets onsite were impressively clean. Adding a trash can to our site was such a helpful option too. And the trails. Just steps from our site was a creek and a forest so lush and untouched it felt sacred. I could’ve laid there for hours. Falling asleep to the sound of the creek and waking up to birdsong was pure bliss. We’re already planning our next trip back.

I went for the weekend to celebrate my birthday! It was the perfect set up for a single tent and I felt safe. My dogs had a great time and we loved all the birds and frogs at night! The hosts had great communication and even helped us extend the trip since we wanted an extra night!

Very well maintained and great location, close to town and close to the national park, everything was neat and clean the bathrooms, the grass was properly mowed and everything was taken care of. Second time I've been here and was just as good as the first! Stayed in site 1, it was plenty big enough and felt secluded compared to some of the other sites. Great location to drive up into mountain loop for the day. Porta potty was also spotless!

This is our favorite Hipcamp! Perfect place to spend the weekend. The views are beautiful. Great walks. Our setup/ teardown is fast and simple because of the covered deck, comfy chairs, and firepit provided by Kinsey. The nearby town of Edison is a must see. Great place eat and buy locally-made pottery. Three trips and counting to this special slice of PNW heaven.

Great property. - We stayed at campsite 6, which was in the “middle” of the drive-up campsites. 1-4 are the least private sites, but closest to the bathroom. 7-9 were definitely more private but further from bathroom/river access. - Wood for sale, $5/bundle, decent cell reception (Verizon) and easy access to the river. -the walk-in sites would be great for a group looking to book a few sites all together!

Beautiful views from the site and the separate and more private deck down the stairs is a cool option for sitting and relaxing as well! There are houses directly behind you but you'll be looking at the views the whole time anyway so it doesn't matter. Our camper van fit perfectly, backed in. Be sure to get whatever supplies you need before you drive onto the island as there's no store there.

Ben and I run a chemical free farm, on which we raise 7 and 1/2 acres of veggie and flower. 15 acres of pastureland on which we raise pasture raised chicken, as well as biannual lamb and beef. The remainder of our land is breathtaking pacific northwest forest that is boarded by the Bay to Baker trail. Our campsites range between walk in wooded sites, and car camping sites that are open field sites next to the tree line. We provide wagons in our cart corral area to make it more convenient for the very short walk in. ( no more then a 200 foot walk in) We have a beautiful cedar grove to enjoy for lounging and picnics. The Bay to Baker trail borders our property, so it is just steps away and includes a 45 min round walk to a quaint little waterfall (maple falls). As well as a nature loop trail. You can also walk the other direction on the trail over a boardwalk and up to the Nooksack river. This direction walks along the back of the farm and allows you to see the veggie fields from a distance. There is a conservation area, just a quarter mile drive down the road. With access to the Nooksack river, that includes several nice swimming spots and a couple nice walking trials. Silver Lake is just 3.8 miles away. It has a great recreation area, fun for the whole family. Just a heads up , you will probably lose service on your drive up here. But you will get service back when you are here. We suggest putting the map in your phone before you leave. Google maps will take you just past the farm, and apple maps will stop you too soon. So you are looking for the large kragnes family farms sign in the driveway. pull in and follo the camping signs to the back.

Camp Keyser is a wooded 5 acre parcel in the mountains, near mountain loop highway - in the center of everything wonderful in the northern cascade mountains. We have one private cabin and 6 campsites. Tent campers will enjoy the lush landscape of a mature forest with sites along the (seasonal) Thirsty Creek. Nearby (3 minute walk), users can contemplate views of Whitehorse Mountain, Jumbo Mountain, Glacier Peak, and Whitechuck Mountain. This part of the Stillaguamish valley and the adjacent Mountain Loop Highway is known for a great selection of hiking trails, at all skill levels. It is perfect hub for all of your outdoor interests. The trailhead for the summit of Whitehorse Mountain is just a mile away, as is Old Mine Road trail (45 minute hike ending in 2 waterfalls). A 15-20 minute walk takes campers to a swimming hole in the cool Stillaguamish river for a dip or a paddle. Even closer is Whitehorse Regional Trail (great for biking, walking and horseback riding) built on the bed of the former BNSF railroad through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, spanning over 27 miles. The nearly level trail meanders through the valley, rewarding visitors with picturesque, landscape views of forests, farmland, streams and rivers, and mountain vistas. Sites have a generous fire pit and access to a Porta-Potty. For bathing I recommend cool dip in the Stillaguamish River. In season there is also fishing, snowshoeing, concerts at the blue grass festival grounds, a rodeo, and so much more.

Her latest venture is raising a small flock of Gotland sheep.Learn more about this land: I have a campsite in the woods close to my pond At the pond you may see ducks, swallows, kingfishers, herons and many other visitors. I even had some otters the other day. It's very quiet and peaceful here. There is a row boat available for rowing around. Although the pond isn't as full in the summer as in the winter, you can still dive off the bank on the deep side. Depending on the season, some fruits and vegetables will be available for purchase. Small campfires are allowed as long as there isn't a burn ban on which is common in the late summer months. I will have some fire wood available for sale. You may visit the sheep through the fence but are not allowed to go through any gates. I will be happy to give a short visit for petting and learning about the sheep for a fee of $10 if I am able to arrange a time for that. This year I have 8 adorable lambs. The beach is at the end of the road. Guemes Island has lots of beachcombing. Guemes "mountain" has nice hiking trail with a dramatic view from the top when the weather is clear. The Guemes ferry leaves from 6th St and I st. in Anacortes and ruins frequently during the day. The schedule and fares can be found on the Skagit county website.

On the Island there is a restaurant, a convenience store, farmers markets in the summer months, farm stands, artist tours and a delicious coffee cart most Thursday-Sundays.
