Welcome to our tree farm and working forest. We are currently closed for the winter. We will be open May 2023. We are currently taking reservations for 2023 season. Thanks to all who camped with us and we look forward to hosting you again next summer. Looking for an ideal family getaway spot? With our unique location nestled in the foothills of Stuart Mt and the peaceful Squalicum Valley, Rusty Ranch offers easy access to much of our local recreation options yet is only 10 min east of Bellingham. Our camp area is spacious and can can easily accomidate your family and even a couple of friends. Scattered trees offer shade, the large grassy areas provide ample space to roam. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our working forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. Once the site of an old Farmstead, this property had been in the same family since the late 1930's. We purchased it the spring of 2020 and have been working to transform this 110 acre field and forest into an educational nature park and camping spot to be enjoyed by all for years to come. We hope you will come and stay with us on you next adventure.

Excellent family camping trip!!!
Everything went well. What a vision Scott & Margaret have created. Everything was exceptional. Some highlights include: perfect campsite w/ fire ring, and dry picnic table area, super fun creek and trails to explore, PLAYGROUND!, and last but not least, the most delightful outhouse I’ve ever experienced. My family and I will definitely be back.

Painted Pony Horse Camp - Site #4
Exceeded Expectations!
I rode, we hiked, we biked! Margaret & Scott met us on arrival, and directed us to the Painted Pony campsite. Everything was perfect- water for the animals, two corrals, super clean composting outhouse, shade/rain cover over the picnic table, fire pit w/ grill and wood. There were even solar lights over the table and in the outhouse. It was very peaceful hearing the sounds of nature, and watching the sunset over the hill...oh, and the stars at night are amazing! The property is beautiful, and there is a map of the trails. The trails are hilly, some are more challenging. I took my out of shape horse down and back on the Old Logging Rd- it was good workout for him. I also enjoyed riding around the field loops (flatter riding). Giving the horse a rest we decided to hike the trails. We crossed bridges, saw an old Model T, spotted tiny fish swimming in the creek, read the interpretive signs, and picnicked at Eagle Roost. We also biked Old Logging Rd, and up the Creekside Trail which was a great workout. The other campsites also looked very spacious, and nice. There is a playground, and a little shed with games/toys. If you forget your fruits/veggies there is even a little farmstand at the entrance. There's an outdoor horse arena being built, and Margaret told they plan on having obstacles which is exciting. Margaret & Scott have created a wonderful place, it is very apparent this is a labor of love with a lot of special touches. We look forward to visiting again!

Very thoughtful
This was a diamond spot! Margaret has been very thoughtful about all the details. This campground was well developed with a clean composting toilet and playground, awnings over our picnic table, and fire pit. We’d definitely stay here again! Very quiet and nice to be just outside of Bellingham.

Alder Meadow - Site #3
We stayed here in late September for a night in our tent. The facilities were great. Margaret was very friendly and hospitable. We liked the game shack. Our 2 and 4 year olds took full advantage of the playground, it was really nice to have it next to the meadow spot. The s’mores kit was so delicious and generous! The sheep dogs at the farm across the road were having themselves an epic night defending their flock so it was a little noisy around 2 AM.

Peaceful campsite at forest's edge
The campsite was very clean, inviting and peaceful. Wonderful touches such as subtle solar lights here and there, covered picnic table, easy pull thru for trailer/numerous spots for a tent, firewood waiting next to the fire ring and a myriad of trails in a beautiful forest steps away. Very attentive, friendly hosts! I will definitely be returning when visiting Baker/Bellingham area!

We love rusty ranch!
This is my second time at rusty ranch and this time we brought horses! Our horses felt right at home in the painted pony spot. We had a great time sitting around a warm fire and there was room for both of our tents. The hosts are super considerate and accommodating. The trails around the property present a great riding challenge, not too easy and flexible. We look forward to coming back.

RV camping with dogs
The space was amazing! Margaret went above and beyond by offering us a different site that fit our needs better when that reservation cancelled. The farm is beautiful, our dogs had a great time running around. Everything was well maintained & you could tell they care about the land and their guests. Cute little farm stand with fresh produce, available for any questions/concerns.

Bike camping
We had a great time staying here! The tent sites were nice and flat, the toilet was well stocked and kept clean, and the views were gorgeous. We were pleasantly surprised by the fire pit setup, and the prices for water etc were reasonable. The site is well off from the others so noise etc wasn’t an issue. The trails behind the site were great too. Margaret was very attentive and a lovely host. Thank you again!

Perfect getaway close to home
We absolutely LOVED camping here. We just live down the road but this felt like a perfect getaway. The campsite was perfect. Margaret was so attentive and helpful. We spent a lot of time hiking on the trails. Couldn’t believe how well maintained they were. We got in some really good hikes. Our kids loved the playground and riding their bikes on the hills and parts of the trails. Our pups had fun playing in the fields too. We will be back again for sure! We even grabbed some food to take home from the farm stand on the was out. Thanks for some great family memories

Weekend getaway
The campsite is very large and private. Pull through loop layout for easy in and out. The entire place is very well taken care of, clean and tidy. We could have easily added one or two more rigs or tents. I love the canopy over the picnic table. At night it automatically lights up. Fantastic quiet site with a view of the barn against the night sky. Very helpful host. Best sleep I've gotten in weeks. Thanks Margaret for pointing out the Starlink passover - we caught it and it was amazing! 😍 Plotting reasons to come back...

Beautiful, quiet, and relaxing
This had to be one of the most beautiful campsites I have ever seen on someone's land. A walk down the road from my site led to nature trails, and a bench by the creek where I had my coffee every morning. Margaret was very friendly, and provided all the information I needed to have during my stay. I came for my birthday, and she left me flowers which was so sweet. The site was very well thought out, and the views at night are unbeatable. I wish I had been able to stay here for longer than 4 days. It's about 15 minutes away from Bellingham so I was able to enjoy the city, and then get right back into nature at my campsite. I will definitely visit again!!!!!

Margaret and Scott are kind, organized, capable and have built ( and maintain immaculately) a beautiful peaceful camp ground. The camp sites are not packed up again each other, it's perfect for tent camping or RV, there are miles of trails. They took such good care of me and were so thoughtful. There were also tons of birds ( red tailed Hawks, barred owls, Stellaris jays, spotted towhee, white crowned Sparrow, hummingbird, pileated woodpeckers and more). The campground is in a quiet area behind high hay fields next to a riparian babbling stream / woodland. It felt super safe ( like my belongings), the composting toilets are so amazing I think I want one, and there are permanent shelter / shade cloths over the picnic tables. I will be coming back! I highly recommend. So relaxing. And there's games and stuff for kids to play on!
