Welcome to our tree farm and certified forest. Looking for an ideal family getaway spot? With our unique location nestled in the foothills of Stewart Mt and the peaceful Squalicum Valley, Rusty Ranch Tree Farm offers 110 acres of meadows and forest. Our location provides easy access to much of our local recreation options and is only 10 min east of Bellingham. Our camp area is spacious and can can easily accomidate your family and even a couple of friends. Scattered trees offer shade, and large grassy areas provide ample space to roam. We are proud to say we were recently given a top FARM STAY award from Hipcamp. Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just camping but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. You may request a guided interactive tour for your group if you prefer. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant. We also offer a roadside farm stand with fresh seasonal fruits and veggies as well as farm fresh eggs. Hawthorne Loop

We had a fantastic experience at Rusty Ranch. It is a beautiful property. Very spacious sites. So many nice little amenities that are not expected. The game shack, little store with supplies we forgot. The trails are fantastic. Way beyond expectations. Well marked and lots of great interpretive signs. It is obvious the owners/hosts love their land and are working hard to care for it and make it a showcase of a managed farm and forest. Margaret is a fantastic host. She helped us get settled and provided my granddaughter with a cool Adventure Packet perfect to keep kids busy and interested in their outdoor experience. The camping packet was excellent too. It included a very informative piece for a self-guided nature tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. As a retired forester, I found it very accurate and well written. The map was excellent for staying on track through an intricate trail system that traverses the forested areas. The location offers a number of side trips too. We took floats and a stand up paddle board with us and we found Padden Lake to be the perfect spot to use them and cool off on a hot day. We will definitely be going back to Rusty Ranch often.

Misty Meadow Group Camp

Amazing group camping experience

This was such an amazing camp and experience! Scott and Margaret’s land is beautiful, spacious, welcoming and you feel like you’re secluded while being 20-minutes from town! When we told them it was one of the kids’ birthdays, they even helped us celebrate! The bathrooms were clean with clear instructions. The site was well-tended. The covered area was shaded and a perfect refuge for the hot days! We had such an awesome time playing in the creek, exploring the trails, completing the treasure hunt, visiting the snack shack, and relaxing in the quiet of the serene property. Would come back over and over again!

Rustic Bunkhouse & Corral

Private, Peaceful Paradise

What a wonderful experience! My family of 4 stayed very comfortably in this private, quiet sanctuary. Margaret could not be a more pleasant or accommodating host. This struck the perfect balance for our group looking for a comfortable stay with minimal setup while still enjoying the joy of camping. The ice cream shack providing things we forgot and little luxuries was the cherry on top. The trails are gorgeous and the whole feeling is total peace. Which I very much needed. We’d love to come back!

Creekside Tent Site

Margaret is an excellent host. She made sure we were comfortable and was super flexible with our requests. The property was quiet and clean with tons of trails to explore. They even have a "snack shack" for treats and necessities should you need them.

Painted Pony Horse Camp

We loved the Rusty Ranch!

We absolutely loved our stay at The Rusty Ranch!! Loved how private the spots are, that our dog could be off leash, and that the property was so beautiful. The trailers were fun to explore as well. Sunsets were gorgeous from our campsite. We will book another stay there for sure.
