Welcome to our tree farm and certified forest. **Proud to be named one of the TOP RATED HIPCAMPS FOR 2025 and 2026. Looking for an ideal family getaway spot? With our unique location nestled in the foothills of Stewart Mt and the peaceful Squalicum Valley. Rusty Ranch Tree Farm offers 110 acres of meadows and forest. Our location provides easy access to much of our local recreation options and is only 10 min east of Bellingham. The camp area is spacious and can easily accommodate your family and even a couple of friends. Scattered trees offer shade, and large grassy areas provide ample space to roam. Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just a place to amp, but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry, farming and making maple syrup from trees right here on our farm.. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant. Other farm experiences include a guided interactive nature tour for your group, a class on making maple syrup, or experience farm life and come "hang with the hens" or enjoy some interactive "pony time." We also offer the opportunity to purchase seasonal fruits and vegetables brought to your site. Don't forget to stop by the Snack Shack for fresh cinnamon rolls, a self serve coffee bar, ice cream bars, snacks, drinks, apparel and locally made gifts. Welcome to our 110-acre tree farm.  We offer hiking, foraging, camping and a self-guided nature tour. Hawthorne Loop is a large circular site with extra space for your family or to share with friends. Scattered trees offer shade and the large grassy areas around the site provides ample space to roam. It is a short walk to the creek below where you can sit and relax. Follow the nature trails up the hillside and explore our certified forest. See the old-growth grove, the 50' boardwalk, 100-year-old stumps and the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers, seasonal berries, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears. Visit the Game Shack or let the kids play at the playground. We have balls, frisbee, corn hole boards, horseshoes, ring toss, tether ball, a volleyball area and more. Creekside Tent Site is a large, neatly mowed grassy area with a view of the creek below. This site is dry camping, Creekside has easy gravel road access and includes a large fire pit area,  picnic table and a 10' x 20' shade canopy. This site is best suited for tents, campers, camper vans, sprinter vans and SMALL trailers. (May require minimal leveling for vehicles) All our sites are part of our tree farm experience. We have 110 acres with over 3 miles of hiking trails and 3 picnic areas along the trails. We also have mowed paths around our hay fields. Enjoy the self-guided nature trail or request a guided tour. PRICE: Our price is for 1 family unit or up to 5 people. This is a smaller site and not suitable for groups. If you have more than 5 people in your family or group please consider booking one of our other sites. Please note, we can only accommodate tents or smaller vehicles under 20ft. What a terrific place! Gorgeous property, kind hosts. I was really only aware of two other sets of campers, otherwise, it felt very private. I really enjoyed the hiking trails and the grounds in general. A birder, I was thrilled to hear three different owls. And it was nice to hear the coyotes in the distance. Otherwise it was so quiet and peaceful. I will definitely be back!

I was passing through on my way to AK and fortunately a site was available that I booked the same morning. One of my favorite camping spots! You can tell the host takes pride in the property and pays attention to detail. Well kept, clean and quiet. Secluded and the views were beautiful. The host was very accommodating and friendly. I would definitely stay here again if given the opportunity!

We had such a great weekend here! We stayed in one of the larger sites and absolutely loved it. The site had a nice covered area with a picnic table, beautiful grass, and incredible big-sky views. It was quiet, peaceful, and felt like a real escape. The host was wonderful—attentive and helpful without ever feeling intrusive. We also really appreciated the little camp store/farm stand, which had a great selection of fresh eggs, fruits, vegetables, and camping supplies, all at very reasonable prices. There was plenty to enjoy around the property, including putt putt, volleyball, horses, and chickens. And one of the biggest bonuses for us was that our dog had room to roam and explore. Overall, it was exactly the kind of relaxing camping weekend we were hoping for. Beautiful property, thoughtful host, peaceful setting, and lots of little touches that made the stay special. We would absolutely come back!

Trails, Thunder and a Perfect Night

We enjoyed every moment this weekend at the creekside site at Margaret’s. She met us when we arrived and had a helpful packet of information. The property is well maintained, easy to navigate, plenty of trails (some are steep) and open space for our dogs to explore. Our site was visible from another site but everyone respected each other’s space. There is a great snack shack which was nice for our sugar craving in the evening. There were fresh grapes, pears and cherry tomatoes that were available to pick. We had a fantastic thunderstorm early in the morning which was fun to sit in our camper van, drink coffee and listen to rain and thunder.

Misty Meadow Group Camp
We love Rusty Ranch! We have stayed here several times and always have a wonderful stay. Everything (including the cute composting toilets) is well maintained and clean, the grounds are lovely and private, the hosts friendly and helpful, the snack shack well stocked with fresh eggs/ice/snacks/produce from the property, the trails and creek are beautiful. We will definitely be back and would recommend it to anyone as long as it doesn’t get so popular that we can’t get in! 😊

Beautiful place, everything wonderfully maintained, clean, convenient, and quiet. Great place to bring the horses and dog for a weekend of riding and walking the awesome trails and playing games. The cabin was super comfortable, cozy and adorable, I didn’t want to ever leave. The host, Margaret, was extremely accommodating and gracious ❤️. Excited to come back in the future!

An incredible private campground, everything was top notch with such fun extras to add on like feeding the chickens and pony on the farm, and a little snack shack for ice, water and fun treats. I've been here with my dogs through a non-camping app several times, but this was the first time getting to stay overnight, and it was every bit as perfect as it is when we only get to be there 2 hours at a time during the day. The bunkhouse and privy were immaculate and the futon was super comfortable for sleeping. As always, the trails are loads of fun and a choose your own adventure (and exertion) kind of way. There was only one other camper this night, and they were gone most of the time so we had everything almost to ourselves. In perfect symbolism, a gorgeous rainbow appeared over the top of the barn while I was loading the car to leave.

Misty Meadow Group Camp
We enjoyed staying in the Misty Meadows group site. Margaret created a space perfect for groups. The composting toilets were so cute, can I say that about an outdoor toilet? Our group enjoyed the walking trails through the woods and the meadow during golden hour was beautiful. We had a storm our first night and the covered shelter was a lifesaver.

The cabin was neat and tidy and fit 3 adults and 2 small dogs comfortably. The trails were beautiful and the creeks even more so. Margaret had extra food and supplies we needed available for purchase at reasonable prices and the privy was extremely clean! We didn’t end up paying to pet the pony but even just seeing em there was nice! Our site was far enough from other sites that we didn’t have any noise issues or feel any lack of privacy. They also went above and beyond and provided beautiful vases of Dahlias in the cabin and outhouse. Overall it was a wonderful stay :)

Our family loves staying at Rusty Ranch Tree Farm! The site and outhouse is always impeccable and it's a fun family-friendly place to stay. My very active boys love being able to play on the playground, explore the trails and creek, and have farm fresh eggs in the morning. This is an our second time at the Rusty Ranch this summer. It is the best hipcamp we have ever been to and it’s wonderful for families. We had the pleasure of bringing a friend and her young daughter who had never been camping before. It was the perfect introduction for novice campers. Margaret does an amazing job: the sites are beautiful, everything is thoughtfully laid out, and the outhouse is the cleanest/best smelling/most civilized composting toilet I have ever used.

Misty Meadow Group Camp
What a beautiful site! Clean, well-maintained trails, friendly owner and fun surprises like horses, chickens, and putt putt! This was the perfect spot for our group with young toddlers who loved the playground. Margaret goes above and beyond in hospitality and it shows.

Alder Meadow
We absolutely loved this place. It was clean, beautiful, quiet, and so well maintained. The communication was excellent from start to finish, making our stay easy and relaxing. And the farm-fresh breakfast was such a yummy treat definitely worth adding to your stay. We would happily come back again.

What a beautiful spot. The host is very thoughtful and the camp area is very well layed out with several amenities like hiking trails and games. I will absolutely stay here again.

Rustic Bunkhouse & Corral
The entire property is very well maintained. We stayed in the Bunkhouse which is a dry cabin (there is a pump nearby for non-potable water and a very clean and odor-free compost toilet in an outhouse building right at the bunkhouse). The futon sofa converts into a very comfortable bed and there is a table built in to the bottom of a bunk bed. There are no electrical outlets but there are interior lights. We were there during dahlia season and Margaret had a beautiful vase of flowers in the bunkhouse and in the privy. There are thoughtful touches throughout the property. We love the hiking trails in the forest and they are all marked and she provides a map so you cannot get lost! We really enjoyed getting away with our dog and being in the countryside.

Painted Pony
This property is so beautiful and immaculately manicured and maintained. You can tell how much the hosts love this property and put so much thought and organization into it. From the game shack to the snack shack and the privacy from other sites. I don't have enough words to describe this place other than it is no surprise it was voted one of the best Hipcamps in the country. The compost outhouse was the nicest bathroom ever! Margaret met us at our site with lots of information, was very sweet and communicative. Great trails to hike on. Can't wait to be able to come back.

Fantastic camping! Our family campout- Grandparents, our 2 kids, and 5 grandkids filled the spaces- especially the “hammock forest”, the kids play area.
