Wild Card Camping on Vashon Island

6. Wild Card Camping on Vashon Island

Vashon, WA · 2 sites
Beachlovers, watersports lovers, this is a great location on beautiful Vashon! I call this opportunity "Wild Card Camping" because what I'm offering isn't typical: camping plus limited, shared use of my empty vacation cabin while it's being renovated for a fall rental. Guests have access to a bathroom with a shower, Wi-Fi, and a table and chairs for air-conditioned relaxation with fellow campers on hot days. The cabin is otherwise unfurnished. For a small fee ($3), you can also arrange to use the laundry. There is room for two tent sites in a small field below the cabin. Here's why the location is so special: A short 10- to 15-minute walk through the nearby historic hamlet of Ellisport brings you to KVI, the island's largest sand spit and one of its best beaches. You can also launch a kayak or paddleboard from Crow Beach, a sandy shoreline right next to the bus stop and even closer to your campsite. During July and August, you can pick blackberries on the property, listen to owls at night, hear eagles and ospreys calling during the day, and maybe even spot a deer wandering through. Hike or bike to a local café for coffee and pastries, or hop on the Route 119 bus, which stops next to Crow Beach, and head into town to shop or dine at one of Vashon's wonderful restaurants. Ride the bus in the other direction to hike the bluffs at the south end of Maury Island. Visit the golf course for a meal or a round of golf, or purchase a $17 day pass to the Vashon Athletic Club if you'd like to work out. You can also take the bus to either the north or south ferry terminal for day trips to Seattle or Tacoma. Wild Card Camping is located at the end of a dirt driveway off a road that has commuter traffic on weekday mornings and evenings. Traffic can also be heavier on summer weekends, but the area is generally very quiet during the middle of the day and after 6:00 p.m.

We are open! This magical, 40-acre, cultivated ecosystem, will wrap around you and leave you enchanted. Enjoy this peaceful, country retreat, as a place to rest and reconnect with the earth and yourself. This is a great place to stop for the night, but one day might not be enough to meander the many paths, drink tea harvested from the herb garden, sit on a bench talking to ancient Maple trees, walk the stone labyrinth, wander the sacred Grove, and camp under the stars. There's so much to enjoy here, from the fragrant rose gardens to the orchards and sheep meadows. Spend the morning sipping tea with a book in the greenhouse, an afternoon wandering the many wooded trails, preparing dinner with vegetables grown from the garden, and enjoying the evening watching the moon and stars come up from the observatory platform. You could take a guided tour of the land and animals, or join one of the many workshops hosted here, such as learning to spin yarn from our herd of Icelandic sheep or take an introduction class to Permaculture. Bring your knitting, friends, or just a favorite book, and spend a few days in this tranquil destination, as this land has something to offer everyone. Please NOTE: This is a working farm, we have animals, dirt, sticks, bugs, poop, and lots of opportunities to "connect" with Nature. All of our amenities are shared spaces, designed to foster community. You will find signs posted around the property with clear communication. All of our lodgings are off-grid with no electricity or running water. Water, electricity, and WIFI are available in the shared kitchen, garden, cafe, and lounging areas. Please bring battery-operated lights, bedding, and a pillow, unless otherwise noted. Amenities include: shower house, bathhouse, large semi-commercial kitchen, library, cafe, fiber studio, yarn shop, plenty of outdoor seating, safe potable water, 2 regularly maintained portable toilets, hand washing station, 2 charcoal/wood barbeques Check-in is 4-8 pm Contact us to inquire about using the land for weddings, retreats, and other gatherings! Arlington, WA · 5 sites · Tents, RVs, Lodging
Nestled near Arlington, our 75-acre property spans both new and old forest, featuring a salmon-filled creek and a large beaver pond—all set against the dramatic backdrop of a 1,200-foot sheer rocky cliff crowned with old-growth trees. Since its purchase in 1958 as a family retreat, this land has grown into much more than a getaway. It has become a place for relaxation, adventure, and connection with nature—a private forest for family and friends to enjoy. Over the years, the family has adopted forest stewardship and sustainable timber harvesting practices, while also developing campsites, trails, hosting rock concerts, and even producing wine. What began as a simple escape has evolved into something extraordinary: a tree farm that successfully balances nearly every goal a forest landowner could imagine—timber production, wildlife habitat, natural beauty, recreation, and forest resilience. Valhalla embodies all of this with harmony. We think you will feel the unusual vibe.

We are located on a very private property (the only houses you will see are across the inlet) surrounded by nature but only about 10 minutes from downtown Olympia and 5 minutes from I-5 and Lacey. The property is situated on the very south end of Henderson Inlet. We are on the tide flats so twice a day (at high tide) we have the opportunity to explore on the water in canoes and kayaks. The property is spread over 16 acres and is comprised of two large fields (one in front of our home and the other is a smaller meadow off to the side (hidden meadow) and forest land. There is tons of space for playing, exploring and tiring out your kids and pups! Wildlife is abound with eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, shore birds and a variety of forest birds make this place their home. We are also frequented by the local deer who wonder through and say hi. About the campground: The campground is located in the far northeast corner of the property on the edge of the forest and meadow. In the common areas you will find the porta potty, shower and sink. There is also a supply closet that has the yard games and extra supplies. There is a hot tub situated right on the edge of the forest with peek-a-boo views of the inlet. You will also find garbage and recycling bins. There are trails throughout the forest along the 600 feet of water (tide) front. Along the trails you will find several different benches, seats and swings to relax and enjoy nature from. There are also fairies and gnomes who have been sighted in the forest. If you look closely, you might spot one too! We ware, if you touch a fairy or gnome they do lose their magical powers so please respect the mystical creatures. 😊 The sites are about 500 feet from our house and offer great privacy. You may see us throughout the day and evening coming and going from the campground, working on the property or playing with the kids on the trails!
