We have a private, single site located on the banks of the McKenzie River in Rainbow, Oregon. The campsite is near our home, but feels private. The access driveway and site size make it best for camper vans and smaller RV’s. Long trailers, large RV’s and tent camping are not permitted at this time. The site has 50/30 amp and 120 volt outlets, as well as water and Wi-Fi. We have a porta-potty on site Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The property has many areas to set your camp chair or hang your hammock, and lots of short paths to explore. Recreation opportunities abound around here: hiking, biking, fishing, hot springs, cold springs, waterfalls, lava beds, whitewater boating on the river, and flat water paddling on the reservoirs. 'Royal Heart Hill' is at the very end of a Dead-End road, which means no sound or light pollution from passing cars or nearby residences. Surrounded by BLM and Timber properties, while being 6 miles from downtown CG (7 miles from the I5) and 30 miles from downtown Eugene.
All guests have access to the outdoor shower, which is connected to the Dome. Please use biodegradable soap in the shower! Potable water spigots are located by the carport and at the top of the steps leading down to our platform site. Each site has its own composting toilet, fire-pit, electrical outlet and hammock.
Nearby access to: two lakes for swimming and fishing, waterfalls and cliff-jumping, hiking and biking trails, dining, wineries, breweries, shopping and more. I am happy to offer suggestions and share what I know- please ask!
UPDATE: The timber acreage that borders our property- to the west and north of Overholser Road- was harvested winter 2024.
The property consists of Oak savanna, mixed conifer woodland, camas meadow, undulating hills and a SMALL pond (home to many rough-skinned newts- no swimming or fishing). At our domestead we practice permaculture, native habitat restoration and regenerative forestry.
Poison oak is present on the property! I have done my best to clear it from camping areas and trails. Tecnu is provided in the outdoor shower.
There is a mile long loop that goes around the whole property, which we keep mowed and accessible. Hipcampers are encouraged to use the loop to explore the property. To access- walk south/downhill toward the pond signs and follow the mowed path through the meadow and back up toward the road, which will take you back to your campsite. I have included a screenshot of the loop as recorded by my Strava app, which is in the property photos.
The property hosts a geodesic play-dome and slack-line (during the dry months) up by the green dome/outdoor shower. Guests may play on these at their own risk- the closest hospital is 7 miles away.

One mile from I-5, you may pitch your tent or park your van in a meadow near some fir trees bordering Elk Creek. Feel the restful flow of water bringing tranquility. Follow hiking trails along the creek, through groves of trees, or play in the singing creek. There is another hiking trail to another portion of the creek to the right of the road that passes by the barn. A sign on an oak tree indicates the edge of the large mowed meadow that will take you to another sign for the trail to the creek.
When entering the property at the county road, you’ll see a big Century Farm sign on the left at the driveway entrance.
Continue past a brown machine shed. You will see two apple trees on your left. Just beyond the apple trees is a sign, on a big fir tree. This sign points to the direction of the campsite. Shaped like an arrow it points to the mowed path down to the creek and campsite which you may drive.
Uphill from the campsite is a trail going through a small copse of trees that leads up to the red barn. On the left, at the entrance to the barn, is a bathroom complete with sink and shower. Towels are not provided.
Beneath the apple trees is a faucet with potable drink safety hose and a bucket for your use.

In 1948 a wildfire came thru what then was a mixed forest of spars old growth conifers, evergreen and deciduous broadleaf trees burning intensely enough to render the entire area to primarily grassland. Today it is quickly returning to primarily mixed forest, recovering the ability to hold water at cooler temperatures as it once did.
Nestled on the south slope of Dickinson Mountain it offers plenty of sunshine yet some of the best cool freshwater to be found anywhere. Although much of this paradise is considerably steep there are ample cow and goat trails to make exploring extremely enjoyable.
Bachelor Creek which runs thru approximately 1/2 mile of the Southeast portion is home to beaver, cutthroat, western pond turtles, great blue heron, and many other wildlife.
There is a pair of resident Redtail hawks, wild turkeys, deer, bobcat, coyote, cougar, mink, flying, silver grey, and pine squirrels, owls (sawhete, screach, Pigmy, barred, and great horned), and many others.
There are also many swimming holes on Bachelor Creek and a tributary we call Dancing creek, although they are all somewhat small the water is nice and refreshing for a quick dip on a warm day.
This is a working farm raising cattle, and chickens. On that note please don't feed any of the animals as they could become a real nuisance. If you are going to be leaving your camp for a hike or swim etc. please secure any food items to avoid a potential disaster.
The farm is 170 acres (a half mile by a half mile) and there is a fence all the way around it. Feel free to hike wherever, as long as you don't cross any fences you are still here.
You can take a dip in the creek where it comes out of the culvert below the road and there is a picnic table at each site as well as at the dipping hole.

What an unforgettable weekend @upriverparadise. Steve is the kindest host, has some mad skills with all the amenities. From the tables to place our Blackstone, to washing camp dishes, he has dialed in this perfect slice of paradise. The Johnny was spotless, easy to get to and even had privacy. Little fairy lights sparkled in the evening and cozy sitting areas down on the riverbank made out stay magical. The beautiful rushing river drowned out any “traffic” noise and lulled us to sleep comfortably. Water, power easily accessible. Just a hours drive to Bend/Sisters with majestic views. Steve has thought of everything! Number 1 on our list of places we will return to.

We used this to stay close to the Covered Bridge Regatta, and it worked great, being just 15 minutes from the lake.

I initially booked site #17, but was asked if I'd be ok taking #4 instead. They said it was an upgrade, I said ok. I can't say what #17 was like, but here is the lowdown on #4: I was renting a camper van for the first, and the site had all the hookups, plus a picnic table and fire pit. It was also next to the bathroom/ laundry facility. The only con was that I got a little less privacy than I was anticipating, but it was nice not to have to walk far if I wanted to take a hot shower at the end of the day. But Dustin at the front was very friendly and helpful, and even offered other sites if #4 wasn't to my liking. He even offered us some homemade banana bread muffins, and helped us out when we forgot our can opener. The overall facility was very accommodating to dogs, offering poo bags, grassy spots, and even a trail to walk your dog. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

We took our airstream out for the first time to test it all out with our dogs. The property was peaceful and private and the trails off the property were great to explore.
James also had a fire all ready to be lit, firewood and a lighter on site for us.

My family and I had a wonderful time at Umpqua's Last Resort! From the moment we arrived, Seth was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Traveling with a one-year-old and a dog, we appreciated how much there was to see and do.
We stayed at RV site 22, which was peaceful, well-equipped, and the perfect home base for our trip. The swimming hole was a highlight. I even jumped in the cold water and highly recommend it! Just across the street is a little beach along the river made for a great spot to relax and for our little one to throw rocks into the water, his new favorite thing.
We're already looking forward to returning and trying one of the glamping tents, which looked amazing. Highly recommend!

This place is beautiful. You can see so many stars at night. It’s the perfect spot to stay to do the Highway of Waterfalls. Very pleasant and welcoming staff. Awesome amenities. I did tent camping and the only issue I had was I didn’t realize how close the spots are together (my bad) so it wasn’t as quiet/private as I anticipated. But overall I had a great time and will go back.
