We have a private, single site located on the banks of the McKenzie River in Rainbow, Oregon. The campsite is near our home, but feels private. The access driveway and site size make it best for camper vans and smaller RV’s. Long trailers, large RV’s and tent camping are not permitted at this time. The site has 50/30 amp and 120 volt outlets, as well as water and Wi-Fi. We have a porta-potty on site Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The property has many areas to set your camp chair or hang your hammock, and lots of short paths to explore. Recreation opportunities abound around here: hiking, biking, fishing, hot springs, cold springs, waterfalls, lava beds, whitewater boating on the river, and flat water paddling on the reservoirs. Steps away to your private river access with approx. 150 ft of river frontage. Explore the banks , cast a line, try out the plunge pool, take in the wildlife, wave to rafters and drift boats floating by.
Included are two power and potable water sites, up to 8 guest. Power pedestals have 50-30 and 20 amps at each location. Both locations have a 50' power extensions(30amp) and extra water hoses if needed. At the bottom of the property there is a tree house, fire pit, and large grass field that could accommodate 20+ tents. TOM'S REST was created by Tom's wife Cheryl in an effort to carry out their plans to provide respite for those in need. Tom Edwards worked tirelessly for years to clear this wild recreation space where he planned to live while helping others. Tom suddenly and unexpectedly passed February 2, 2015 while in the process of making his move to Sisters with his High School sweetheart of 45 years. Cheryl continued his passion and their dream to make this a place for those in need as a way to honor the most giving man she ever knew. This process has brought some healing and it is our hope to continue that healing for others in need from life's many trials.
Anyone having a grief, widows/widowers, caregiver, cancer, hospice or other group that would like to have their group listed should message us as well. These respite visits are short getaways to refuel and support individuals during tough times.
Those that come to enjoy Tom's Rest will hopefully gain some needed respite. Most feel they are pretty much 'on their own' in this retreat area with the option for seclusion OR mingling if so desired.

Please be aware that this is a wild landscape: ticks inhabit the bushes, poison oak grows randomly in the southwest corner, and cougars have been spotted frolicking on the hill.
You will find elk, deer, and cattle abounding across the property—though I do my best to keep the moos inbounds! 🤠🪻
Be a tree rooted around camp or frolic amongst nature on an adventure. The experience is yours to be had.
Have farm fresh eggs 🥚 available for purchase and if you don’t want to scavenge wood for a fire I sell bundles of dry split 🪵.

Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash or confined in a pen. The neighbors at the adjacent fenced property to the east have a couple of very friendly but curious dogs that like to be introduced to any newly arriving animals!
When you request a booking, please tell me what kind of RV you'll be bringing, and confirm whether it is fully self-contained (with toilet and holding tanks). Also, you must park your RV and any other vehicles on the graveled surface to prevent damage to the underlying water system. Quiet generators may be used between 8am-8pm.
Summers & holiday weekends require a 4-night minimum stay. All other times require a 3-night minimum.
PLEASE NOTE: Use the property's elevated deck (maximum weight capacity: 350 lbs.) and gravel path to the river's edge at your own risk and with the utmost caution! Owner accepts no responsibility for injuries sustained on the property.
Area attractions include the Deschutes River, Mt. Bachelor, Paulina Plunge, Benham Falls, Fall River Trail, Lava Butte, Sunriver Nature Center and Observatory, Spring River, Sparks Lake, Elk Lake, Smith Rock, and the Sisters Rodeo, to name a few. There is a boat launch about 1/4 mile away on Snow Goose Drive, and scenic bike trails in Caldera Springs (about 3.5 miles away), as well as in Sunriver (about 5 miles away).
Local restaurants include Village Bar and Grill, Josie K's Deli and Kitchen, Marcello's, Cafe Sintra, and Blondie's Pizza. There is a small general store (open during the summer) at the Thousand Trails campground on Century Drive, just a short drive away.

Lots of open space and sunshine for walks, clear sky’s for starry nights, a frog pond, larger pond with mature aspen grove and bench. birds, deer passing through. Resident cats, Ike, Rose and Haze can be seen out hunting. Streams and ponds June-Sept*. Cameras onsite, but campsites are not covered. Kid friendly with some playground equipment.
Very private, lots of spaces to choose from. Kid friendly, including a climbing dome and a trampoline, and some other obstacle course items. Cows, goats, and sheep to follow around. Afternoon shade on the bench by the main pond next to the aspen grove and a bit of a trickling creek when the pond is full.
10 minutes from downtown Bend and all it has to offer. 5 mins north on Brookswood to the Old Mill District, and the Deschutes river (and trail).

Campsite is on a second driveway to the front of the house on a wooded, half-acre lot in a quiet neighborhood in Southwest Bend. House lots are big and the area provides nice cool morning walks. There is a curb at the start of the driveway but aids will be provided if necessary.
Electrical (110x2; 50A with converter to 30A), water, and sewer hookups are available! The sewer hookup may not work if your drain is underneath your vehicle and low to the ground.
There is a fenced in yard that may be used if your dog(s) get along with mine and you help with poop patrol. You will need to check the fence line to confirm that your dogs cannot get out, as I am not responsible if they escape. A large part of my yard is rewilding, so you will see tall grasses and increasing varieties of flowers over the years.
A hot tub may be available by appointment. House is enhanced by the use of focused life force energy (FLFE.net), so enjoy relaxing in the higher vibes. There is one cat to rule us all and she may grace you with her presence if you welcome her. And a border collie to guard anyone she deems as part of her "flock."
Site is located an easily walkable ½ mile from a shopping center with grocery (just closed but hoping for another to take its place), vet, Mexican and Asian-fusion restaurants, and a wine bar with occasional entertainment. Beyond that, is a park with a climb to a tall hill with a lovely 360 overlook view of the surrounding mountains.
There is access to the river and river trail about ¾ mile walk away - this trail can take you all the way to Farewell Park and the Old Mill shopping area. And a bus stop is around the corner, just about a house length away.
This is a great base location for all your adventures in Bend and surrounding areas, and a quiet place in which to relax afterwards.

Lovely refuge out in the rural, country landscape. Really prompt replies/communication from host. Honored to have the privilege to be able to park safely on the home owner’s property. I don’t need the water & electricity connections (van camping). Those of us who are equipped to roam, are graced by stewards/owners of land who are willing to share so that when we wander, we aren’t always at the mercy of busy campgrounds, right next to others’ rigs/sounds/activities. I hope that guests continue to respect such opportunities ~

This is a beautiful campsite!
Full hookups in a stunning forest setting.
There is a short hiking trail that weaves around the property and takes you to the river.
Another trail takes you to an amazing waterfall on the property.
The host was very attentive and even left out some dog treats.
WiFi worked great.
We went to mcreadie hot springs that day probably around 30-40 minutes away.
There is a small market maybe 15 minutes away.
We camp out a lot.
I would say in the past 4 years this was the best hipcamp site we have been to.

Great camping experience. James' trailer pad and hookups were perfect. The campground felt amazingly private and quiet. James was welcoming and helpful. The property had a beautiful hiking trail. We used this to stay close to the Covered Bridge Regatta, and it worked great, being just 15 minutes from the lake.

Great location, clean amenities, even the dog park was well kept. Shame only half the sites had evergreen plantings, which were lovely, but by contrast the sites without seemed a bit sad. Don’t use the bbq area, but it looked nice and inviting. Hopefully will use it next time! Lovely spot.

We took our airstream out for the first time to test it all out with our dogs. The property was peaceful and private and the trails off the property were great to explore.
James also had a fire all ready to be lit, firewood and a lighter on site for us.

We really enjoyed staying on James and Linda's property. The site was easily accessible with our 31' travel trailer. All hook-ups worked as expected and were conveniently located. The site was nice and level. The RV location is in site of the house and the workshop, but we weren't necessarily bothered by that, just be aware its not incredibly secluded from the rest of the property! The property is beautiful and we took advantage of walking around both the property as well as hiking the local Goodman Creek Trail and exploring the town of Lowell. James was incredibly friendly and accommodating! He met us at the site when we arrived, checked in with us after set-up to make sure WiFi etc was working well, and had gotten fire material set up for us before arrival. He even allowed us to borrow a battery charger after we blew a fuse in the trailer overnight the first night! A wonderful spot for a weekend get-away.

We enjoyed our stay on Jamie's land. The property is beautiful. Totally surrounded by mature forest and a large lawn with grazing deer. The RV pads were very well constructed and required no leveling. Jamie came to meet us right away to explain the hookups, give directions to forest and creek, wifi password, and even brought treats for our pup. We weren't able to take advantage of the sitting area because of the rain, but it was a nice space. We would recommend this property to other travelers in the area.

This spot was great, especially considering that we went on the "severe heat warning" weekend. The shade from the trees kept the site at a nice mid 80s, and it got cool at night down into the 60s. Only downside was the website and Google made it seem like the reservoir would be full of water and RIGHT THERE for us to get into... the reservoir was reallllllly dried up and we had to drive to get anywhere close to a swimmable spot.
Besides that: clean campground, plenty of space, great fire pit with built-in cooking spot, quiet and peaceful, bathrooms clean - would come back and stay here again for sure!

Loud families in Broken Bowl (single mom riding a scooter with 5 teens blasting music into the night, and then those teens running through all the campsites)
Squatters in the reservation only site (Puma). Could be July 4th weekend. Campsite manager said the locals hate the rule changes and will stand their ground and refuse to follow the rules. Family (older male, playing dumb female, 2 teenage sons, one was aggressive). 3 cars parked on the site. Unsure if they carried weapons. Be careful.

Decent campground, but pretty close to the highway and the road noise is pretty intense, especially the big trucks going by. Very small Hackleman creek nearby. OK campground if you need a place to stop, but wouldn't recommend making a a special trip.

One of four clearest lakes in the world! This bright blue alpine lake is so crystal clear you can see to the bottom even in the deepest parts. Lack of vegetation means no fish or murky bottoms. Just perfect swimming and kayaking conditions. Lots of butterflies and blue dragonflies and hardly anyone on the lake. If you can, paddle across the lake to camp.

Make sure to visit the hot springs at the resort as they are AMAING! The community there is quite homey and inviting. I will make it a yearly visit now as it was indeed needed to refresh, relax, and renew my spirit.

This is my favorite campsite in all of Oregon. I've visited North Waldo Lake nearly every summer since I was born. It's great for hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, stargazing, and just reading and napping on the beach. Trails are beautiful and the water is so clear you can see the bottom from the middle of the lake. It can be cold at night and there are mosquitos usually until late July, but other than that it is flawless. It's Oregon's best kept secret:)

We visited on a Monday night in early April which turned out to be the right recipe for a deserted campground. Not only was it free but it was just us and a few day-time fishermen.
Our campsite came equipped with a peninsula that extended out into the lake and was perfect for both kids and fishermen. The campsite itself is located back in the trees on an old concrete pad. It's also a great spot for large gatherings (spots for 5+ rvs) but would make for open and exposed quarters with strangers if the campsite is full.
Expect moderate noise from traffic on the nearby highway, especially for the sites on the east side of the campground. The tent-only walk-in sites also looked nice.
