Camp on the edge of Forest Park and sleep underneath an evergreen canopy of Douglas fir and big leaf maple.
We have one large forest glade with room for several tents. We book only one group at a time, so you are guaranteed the place to yourselves. We can accommodate up to 15 people, with a max of 5-6 vehicles (parking is tight).
This is a hike-in only campground most suited to backpack style camping. The hike in has two short steep grade sections about 50 feet each. It takes 5-15 minutes depending on fitness level and load. This is not suitable for those with accessibility issues. Pack and dress for backpacking.

-Large fire ring with seating for 7-10 and cooking grate
-picnic table with seating for six

Parking is separate from the campground! It is a brief but steep 1/4 mile hike to get to the main campground and latrine. Bring hiking shoes and pack light. It takes most people 5-15 minutes to hike up, depending on fitness level and load size . If you want to car camp, you will be next to a road and separate from the latrine and fire pit.
Enjoy several short trails on the camp's property before heading to Forest Park's
Wildwood Trail, which is just up the street, or check out all of the incredible natural and urban nearby attractions in Portland.

The camper is located between St Johns and Kenton in charming North Portland. It is safely located in the backyard of the property, and is surrounded by tall fences and shrubbery, allowing for absolute privacy. Beautiful yard with outdoor dining area and hot tub access (hot tub available starting September 2025). We are located a half a block away from the historic Columbia Park, with a long walking path through mature Doug firs, sports fields, pickleball courts and a play area/splash pad in the summer. We also enjoyed the u-pick blueberry farm across the street, and the mules at the farm! We enjoyed the campfire, and we got to use the propane grill for dinner. I loved all the amenities on this site - the swinging chairs, jenga, tic tac toe, handwashing station and the compost toilet. There was a propane fire pit due to the current burn ban. The entry is definitely steep, we managed a wagon up it but that was a bit difficult. Took about 5 minutes or less to walk up.

Absolutely loved this space! Very well done and great for the dogs. The yurt was spacious and well exceed expectations. The site itself had a hammock multiple seating areas, a fire pit, and a private little sitting area along the river. It was a fabulous little weekend adventure with my partner. I liked the view, the chickens and even the rooster!
During my stay the wind was a welcomed plus - kept any pesky flying bugs away!
Enjoyed the sunset and during my stay some cool Mexican music was happening from a neighbor - hey, I poured a glass of wine and took advantage of the free concert.
It was easy to find with the directions - long gravel road up to the camp, so your vehicle/trailer gets a bit dusty but nothing that a little soap and water can't take care of.
Close enuff to Beaverton and Portland for a drive in on a 2 day stay.
Be sure to bring a camp rug or 2 to lay over the weeds and grass, especially tenters.
No neighbors and you can feel secure leaving behind your gear for a day trip to Henry Hagg Lake (25min drive)

Scott and April were incredible hosts! This was my sister’s and my first day traveling in an RV and our first time having to park one, and they were so patient and helpful. They connected everything for us, walked us through the setup, and made sure we felt comfortable operating the RV on our own.
Their property is absolutely beautiful, and they truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They invited us over for coffee, shared fresh eggs from their chickens, and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived.

Where to go
L.L. Stub Stewart State Park
A half-hour drive from Hillsboro, L.L. Stub Stewart State Park offers nearly 30 miles of trails and great night-sky views. It's popular among day trippers, who come here to hike, picnic, mountain bike, and ride horses, but plenty of people choose to stay the night in one of the on-site cabins or campsites.
The Oregon Coast
Hillsboro is a little over an hour away from the Oregon Coast via the Sunset Highway (26W), which crosses over the densely wooded Coastal Range, ultimately connecting with US 101. There are plenty of stops to stop and hike along the way, from Saddle Mountain just inland from the coast and Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach. There are also tons of state park-run campgrounds up and down the Oregon Coast, many of which offer tent and RV camping plus full hookups.
The Willamette Valley Wine Country
While Hillsboro has a few small wineries of its own, you'll find a denser concentration of wine-tasting options by heading a bit further south, either via Yamhill and Carlton on Highway 47 or by taking Highway 99W to Newberg and onwards to McMinnville. The Willamette Valley has about two-thirds of Oregon's wineries and is celebrated for its bold Pinots Noirs.
When to go
You'll get the best weather in Hillsboro if you visit between July and September, when the temperatures are generally warm and the chance of rainfall is slim. The rest of the year gets cold and rainy, and while spring and fall do get some pleasant days, it’s hard to gauge when they will be. While the area doesn’t get much snow, freezing rain is a major issue that can lead to dangerously slick roads.
