The 80-acre property is carved out of a Norway pine plantation. Sites are approximately 10,000 square ft. in size with about 50 ft. of trees between each site for semi-privacy. We have tried to maintain a balance of nature while making the sites as RV friendly as possible. Although the property is located in the country, it is located along a state highway for easy access and there are three towns and many amenities and recreational venues within 15 minutes drive. Goldie is open for the summer!
Goldie is an original early 1900's wooden caboose that ran on the DMIR railroad. She was re-designed in 1912 to be safer on the tracks (and her length extended so she wouldn't fall over). She ran the tracks of the Iron Range until retirement in 1968. She's been fully renovated with a few modern conveniences.
We've re-used as much of the original wood as possible, and repurposed many things into other things so that we could keep the history alive. My husband is the carpenter that brought her to life and I'm the one that gave her some paint and design.
Now, she's ready for people again, and to keep telling her story to others. Please...be our guest...and let Goldie be your host. The caboose sits about 50 yards from the house, but it tucked into the trees and feels very private. There is a private trail that leads from the caboose to the lake.
Goldie has a max occupancy of 2 people due to space constraints. Please no pets since there are wooden floors. If you have a service dog, of course it is welcome - please reach out to me about that detail.
She also offers:

Our lake is an "environmental lake" so while we keep a small beach area that you are welcome to use, it is not free of lily pads or weeds. It's simple, but fully swimm-able (the Golden Retriever keeps the first 8 feet of water weed free with her swimming!). You are welcome to use the dock and chairs we keep there for breezy evenings or to take a dip to cool off.
We are only 2i-sh miles from town with gas, food, ice cream, coffee shop, resaturants, small town shopping and a donut shop. There is a paved rail trail just down our street that runs both directions for many miles. Bikes are welcome! (please leave ATVs at home).

Wow! Where do I begin?! Not only is the location beautiful and breathtaking, we really enjoyed the privacy. The hike up the hill is no joke but we got use to it! The wagon that is provided was SO helpful! The beach is remarkable and the sunset left us speechless. The actual campsite was a perfect size for two adults and our dog with room to spare. We will DEFINITELY be back to camp again!

The sites are big and we had plenty of room for our 30' 5th wheel and wheeler/trailer. Allen is a fantastic host and even met us at moments notice when we asked if it was alright to check in early. The grounds are very quiet. Allen supplied firewood, a full water jug for extinguishing the fire and plenty of space to roam. A huge plus was the dump station! Can't wait to tell our friends and come back again next year!!

What a nice camp ground. Caretaker was assume. Very friendly made sure we were informed about dump station fresh water where the portable potties were and nice clean garbagecontainers. He has fire wood cut and kindling at each camp site nice picnic table there. Has emergency water handy at the site for fire extinguishing. Fresh pottable water with a hose. Absolutely quite, CLEAN campground. Very easy to reserve on line we had cell service there. We will come back many more times. Thank you.

Some reviews said the site was to close to the home. But really it was really no closer than another camper at most camping grounds. We barely saw the owners unless they were asking if we needed more wood or anything else. I admit I was a little nervous at first, but I would and will stay here again.

2 nights at Paul’s Lakeside Cottage
Such a beautiful hideout in the woods. Paul was a wonderful host from his house nearby. Beyond that, we were surrounded by beautiful woods, the lake, and the quiet. Within an hour of Bemidji and even closer to Itasca State Park. Would recommend to anyone!

Great site to pull a camper and ride bikes! Just a short ride to cyuna trail system. Kellie was super helpful and answered all our questions. Nice campsite!

We had a fantastic time, this was our second time here and its still as beautiful as the first time. Lots of deer and birds to watch with the sound of the river makes it so peaceful. We will be back.

Wonderful property; private, quiet, just the faint sound of mooing, and the stars were incredible! Owners stopped by to bring us water, and they were very nice!

I had taken my boys up to this lovely place to fish and we were not disappointed. For the fisherman’s out there, this is a pretty non-pressured lake. Produced lots of 3-5lbers! All my kids caught there PBs.
Plenty of space to set up our 11 person tent. This spot was secluded and quiet. There were plenty of firewood to use (we didn’t need it as we brought our own). Outhouse was fine as well. Didn’t smell at all. :).
There is a dock, a little wobbly but I had expected that as it was pretty high. I didn’t feel like it was going to break or anything like that.
There is also a small stair case down to water. Bring your water boards!
Host was very responsive when needed.
We will definitely come back next year!

Weekend Trip to Goldie The Caboose - Nevis MN
What a cool and unique experience Goldie was! We spent our 16th anniversary weekend here and took spent time relaxing by the fire, sitting by the lake, kayaking and taking in the local flavors of Nevis and Park Rapids. Amy was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed to a relaxing weekend away. Thank you Amy and Goldie, what an awesome weekend!

great hipcamp cabin for the price! loved that it's dog friendly, has running water (shower, toilet, kitchen sink), kitchen appliances (fridge/freezer, microwave, stovetop/oven), & heat/AC. was a good location for us for hiking & appreciated restaurants within 20 minutes.

Great experience. Allen met me at the campground to show me my campsite. Very nice host and communication throughout was spot on. Very spacious, well maintained and surrounded by trees. The property is a bit off the highway - far enough for privacy but the cars and trucks you do hear. My site #101 was the closest to the road. More spots were available further in. A large property to walk around, the site had everything for a nice campfire and the night sky was truly amazing!
