The Hilltop sits on 7.5 acres above Stalker Lake in Otter Tail County, offering something genuinely rare: a private hilltop campsite with panoramic lake views and direct access to a lakeside sandy area and dock below. The climb to the site is about 250 feet and steep, but the lake view opens up from the first step and only gets better as you go. There's a bench halfway up for good reason — stop, catch your breath, and take it in. By the time you reach the top, you'll understand why guests keep coming back.
Below the hill, your lakeside area is set up for full days outside. A large, deep-sand terrace sits just above the water with Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, fire ring, and easy stair access down to the lake. The shoreline is riprap, but the lake bottom is firm sand — great for wading, swimming, and getting in and out of the canoe or paddle boards. It's the kind of spot where nobody moves for three hours and nobody apologizes for it. The lakeside area is shared with your hosts when we're around — friendly neighbors, not hoverers. The hilltop and lakeside area are separated by Stalker Lake Road, a low-traffic country road easy to cross on foot.
Two fire rings — one at the hilltop, one at the lakeside area — mean the evening belongs to you wherever you want to spend it. Sunsets here are a nightly event, not just a backdrop. Well-behaved dogs welcome, off-leash.

On the water: fish off the dock, launch at Stalker Lake public access (0.25 mi) or Long Lake (1 mi), rent a boat or pontoon through Enclave Marine or G3 Rentals, or ask us about the Otter Tail River float. Rent dock space from us as an addon.

Carved out over 12,000 years ago by the Iowa glacial lobe, this land rests within the easternmost wintering area of the North American buffalo herd. This is a rare and untouched native prairie site near known Indigenous artifacts.
It is also just 25 minutes from world-class healthcare facilities and shopping in Alexandria, MN, or just 9 minutes from Osakis, MN. Head of the Lakes Resort, known for its generous portions of French fries, is also just a short drive away.
Walk to the nearest access point on the Long Prairie River, or travel just a couple of miles down Fairfield Drive—also a scenic walk—to Lake Osakis, one of the most heavily stocked walleye lakes in Minnesota. Battle Point also offers a nearby fishing pier.

The site is rustic, with no utilities or outhouse. Pack out what you pack in. Parking is available at the entrance only, and no motorized vehicles are allowed in the campground.

I camped here with my husband and our two large dogs, and we had so much fun! At first, when I saw the steep hill mentioned on the page, I thought, “How steep could it really be? We’re in Minnesota!” Well… I’ve climbed many mountains before, and honestly, this hill is comparable to some mountain roads I’ve done—just MUCH shorter! But you still get that rewarding feeling when you reach the top. The view looking down from the hilltop is really cool. It’s hard to capture in pictures, but it’s definitely worth the climb!
Lake water is super clean, and the beach is very well maintained. The campsite feels very private and is in such a quiet, peaceful area. The site is also surrounded by maple trees, and when you look up, you’re covered by all the beautiful leaves. It feels amazing!
We somehow experienced almost every type of weather during our stay—peaceful and sunny with a nice breeze, then rain and wind, and eventually SUPER windy and cloudy. Luckily, the temperature didn’t fail us, so we still got to enjoy the water!
Mindy was also very responsive whenever I reached out with questions. I would definitely recommend this campsite! The only thing I’d mention is that if you’re someone who really doesn’t like “exercise,” keep in mind that you will be climbing that hill every time you go between the campsite and the water. For us, that was part of the fun, but I know not everyone feels the same way! Overall, 10/10!! We had such a great time here and would absolutely recommend it.

This was our favorite ever camping spot! And we've camped a lot in our lifetime. First time not having to set up a tent because of he cabin. The cabin was so cute and just perfect. It's actually a lot bigger than it looks in the pictures. The spot is really quiet and far away from people. Jessah was super nice and extremely responsive to any questions. This is a REALLY nice getaway, we will definitely be back!

The camp is exactly like the pictures. Beautiful and well maintained. The lake was great for swimming and the beach area was perfect. Every amenity you could wish for was available! Sand toys, beach chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, life jackets, volleyball net and volley ball, soccer goals, game room with many games in a cool old garage, slack line… And I’m probably forgetting stuff. We tent camped at site T3 Firefly - which was a perfect little nook that felt private but was close to everything, and with a lake view. The only downside was a bit of a walk to the bathroom. Worth it!
The owners were very kind and helpful also. We had a 4 day stay. No one asked us to move anything or change anything. (Some other reviews made me worry that owners might be intrusive or picky but that was not our experience! Quite the opposite.) We had a tent, a canopy, three people and two dogs. We all had a great time and would definitely come back!

An all around wonderful location! My husband and I stayed for 2 night with our kids 14&15yo girls and 2 dogs. The site was clean and spacious. The perfect combination of shade and sun. Our dogs had plenty of space to play. The dock is East facing and perfect for coffee at sunrise. There are quite a few lily pads, they were easy to navigate with our paddle board and no bother to us. Eagle lake is incredibly close for swimming or to launch a boat as well as the town Battle lake for wood/ice or Dairy Queen! The critters we saw and heard were the best part. A family of swans with their baby and the coyotes yipping for a little bit at night were the biggest hits. We would definitely stay again.

It was a nice secluded spot. We got exactly what we were expecting and we were reminded to beware of the mosquitoes so we were prepared. The citronella candle did an amazing job as did the bug spray. It was very easy to find.

What a great place for RV camping. We loved all the amenities! Super friendly people and we had so much fun swimming and exploring
the property. We rented a pontoon boat and did some fishing. Lake was very clean. Our two dogs loved the campground and had a blast playing and swimming. We can’t wait to come back again. The little lodge has all kinds of snacks and much needed food items. They’ve thought of everything, including home raised eggs!!! Great family or couple’s stay!

I took my girlfriend out here for her very first time tent camping and we left already wanting to go back. While the climb up to the campsite is tiring, the sunset view and the lively nature make it all worth it. We had a lot of fun swimming, cooking over the fire, and enjoying the beautiful nature of the area. We also really appreciate how helpful and kind Mindy and Derek were for our first ever time using HipCamp. Overall, this is an amazing, gem of a site for anyone who loves enjoying nature in an area with plenty to do. I totally recommend checking it out!

My family and I really enjoyed our time at their place. Incredibly welcoming people who are willing to share their property. They had a lot of amenities that we didn't even get to use since we were meeting up with family that was staying at a separate location most of the time we were there. They also gave us plenty of tips on local activities for the area. We definitely plan to stay again the next time we make it up to Alexandria.
