We have a lovely piece of property to come enjoy a getaway at. We enjoy all of the peace and quiet around here. The night sky is unbeatable in my eyes. We have a small hobby farm with lots of very tame animals. We have 42 acres to roams with lots of trails within the woods that are filled with aged oak trees and many young maple trees. Our property is filled with lots of wild flowers and wildlife. We are locate 3 miles from the root river if you enjoy fishing or going for a float down the river. There are two caves in our area that are a must see while you are visiting. I you like to hike there is a state park 14 minutes from us that have many miles of hiking trails and horse trails. If you are more the small town strolling type of person we have lots of small towns around us that are filled with shops and lots of great food! There is a large system of bike trails in our area that make a very fun way to check out some of the small towns. If you have a family with kids we have a lot of fun activities you can do with your kids, like spending time with the goats, chickens and ducks, playing on our playground, or taking a nice walk through the woods looking for fossils!

Welcome ; Located in southeast Minnesota's Driftless region of hills, valleys, fields and forests, we are a grass based working dairy farm with over 100 acres of woodland, including an extensive trail system and campsites in our wooded acres. What makes this woodland special is it's quiet, secluded setting and over 6 miles of hiking / skiing trails. Our farmstead sits three quarter of a mile off the paved county highway on our well maintained gravel driveway. Each of our campsites are secluded from the others with their own sawdust compost toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces, and firewood. Two of our sites require 4WD with a minimum of 6 inches ground clearance to access, and two are accessible with 2WD. If you do not have 4WD we can help transport your gear while you enjoy the walk in. There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride. For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing or snowshoeing / hiking on the property. However the Rock Bottom Cabin is our only heated and insulated site and is available for winter booking. Winter access is walk in only with snow on the ground or in the forecast. We can help transport gear. This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows. The space The cabin is separate from the house and the rest of the farm buildings so it is very private. On the outside, there is a picnic table, covered deck, outdoor seating, a fire pit, charcoal grill and outdoor shower. The inside of the cabin has a loft (Accessed via ladder) with two full-sized beds, a TV with a DVD player, a Culligan water dispenser, microwave, dorm-sized refrigerator, coffee maker, and comfortable seating. IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE: The loft, where the two beds are, is accessed VIA A ladder. It can be difficult to access if mobility is a concern, so please keep this in mind. The bathroom consists of a porta-potty and a private outdoor shower located behind the cabin. There is no running water directly to the cabin, but hot, running water is located in the outdoor shower. Couldn’t be better than this little cabin. Always clean and has anything you could ask for. On top of that, a beautiful view including a dabbling brook right behind the fire pit. I would recommend this cabin to anyone.

Absolutely fantastic! One of the best camps we've been to. Dog heaven. Off leash with no worries. There are only two campsites and they are a couple hundred yards apart. This place is a gem. Hosts were super nice. Can't wait to go back!!!

We loved "glamping" here! The cabin was adorable and had everything we needed. The location was perfect...secluded, yet so close to several gorgeous hiking spots. The stargazing was incredible. Our pups (one of whom is scared of other dogs and people) were so happy to have the seclusion. It was the perfect spot to spend our days hiking, and our nights being cozy in the cabin!

Mike and Joan thought of everything. It was a perfect short stay for us. We appreciated the kindness shown to us and the ride to and from the site. We had our own little spot in nature with everything we needed. Campfires were so easy with the setup provided. Loved the presence of drinking water and wash up water. The compost toilet bathroom was clean and perfect. I’d come back in a heartbeat. Remember to bring warm sleeping bags or blankets if you are headed there in the fall!

We loved staying on Candace’s land! Our kids and dogs felt right at home. It was upscale tent camping. We had a great outdoor fire for breakfast, dinner, and s’mores and a great indoor fire to keep us warm on the cool fall nights. The beds were comfortable - especially when you’re used to a tent and a camping pad! And the house heated up so nicely. It was really nicely stocked - we normally bring tongs, spatula, etc. but there were some hung on the cabin which was a nice touch. It was really nice not to get service for a few days, enjoy the scenery, and bum around local towns. We’d absolutely stay again. ❤️

Weekend Trip to Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland

We loved our weekend deep in the woods staying in the Wooden Tent. Mike was great to work with and guided us right to the site and gave us a map of the trails to hike on. This is such a cool site and Mike and Joan's willingness to share their land with others. We had a few rain showers while trying to set up and the wooden tent was bone dry inside! The site has firewood, your own saw dust out house, garbage/ recycling, wash water, drinking water, chairs around the fire/ cooking area, they have literally thought of everything. Make sure if you visit you bring plenty of lights its dark dark that deep in the woods. It also seems 4-5 degrees cooler being that deep in the woods. We also didn't have any mosquitoes when we visitied mid September. At night you could hear owls and coyotes off in the distance. We did not see a single other person while camping and the few other sites are far away from each other so the nature sounds can be heard all day and night! We will 100% stay here again in the future. I will never camp at a regular camp site with neighbors again after this experience! Thanks again Mike and Joan for sharing your land and a great/ cool experience.

It had everything we needed, firewood, water, chairs. And the outhouse was the cleanest one I’ve ever been in. Definitely would recommend!

This was our third time back to the Gilles Family Dairy & Woodland, and our second stay at Rock Bottom Cabin. We brought friends with us this time, as we knew they'd love it. The site is down into a valley, surrounded by hillsides full of trees. It is very spacious and private. The grill set up for cooking over the fire was great, especially for a group. There is wood on site for the fire. Picnic table is extra large. There is a large awning on the front of the cabin, which came in handy when we had rain one evening, and still wanted to be outside. Mike and Joan are gracious hosts who clearly care for their property. This can be seen through communication, how well thought out the sites are, and how the trails on the property are cared for. I have no doubt we will visit again in the future.

Hidden Hills is the perfect off-grid escape! Darla and her husband are the kindest hosts — when we couldn’t pull up our email, they welcomed us to their home, and he personally guided us to the cabin with water, firewood, and even help with our bags. That level of hospitality made us feel so cared for from the moment we arrived. The cabin itself is cozy, clean, and thoughtfully stocked. There were tons of games to play, a coffee maker with coffee ready, and a kitchen with everything we could need: utensils, cutting boards, knives, frying pans, and even a seasoned cast-iron skillet (cooking on it was amazing — nothing stuck!). Linens were also provided, which was such a plus. There’s a little walk up and down a hill to reach the cabin, but the view and the sense of seclusion make it more than worth it. We loved relaxing with our dogs, cooking over the fire, and just enjoying the quiet beauty of the setting. We left feeling refreshed, grateful, and already planning our return. If you’re looking for peace, comfort, and thoughtful touches in a secluded setting, this is it. Highly recommend!

Hidden Hills is such a gem for a peaceful getaway! Darla and her husband are the kindest hosts — when we couldn’t get our email pulled up because of service, we went to their house and he happily showed us the way to the cabin. He had firewood and water ready for us, and even helped carry our bags in. That thoughtful hospitality set the tone for our entire stay. The cabin itself is cozy, clean, and the perfect off-grid escape. We cooked a delicious dinner over the fire — steak, caramelized onions, and foil-packet potatoes from Pepin Country Store — and it was one of the highlights of our trip. While their farm meats were unfortunately sold out during our visit, the nearby food and wine scene more than made up for it. Villa Bellezza Winery has fantastic wines and gluten-free pizza (11/10!), Cannon River Winery is a must-visit (their wines are incredible and worth joining the club), and Pepin Country Store is a fun, unique stop for produce and goods. For dining, The Wild Hare in Stillwater is a gluten-free dream. We left feeling grateful, relaxed, and already planning our return. Hidden Hills is one of those special places you’ll want to visit again and again — highly recommend!

Miek and Joan were extremely accommodating with our stay. First, there was rain in the forecast so they upgraded us to the Hilltop Queen, which was lovely! I was very impressed with the setup (of all the sites, we took a walk around) and the outhouse is the BEST I've seen on hipcamp (and there have been other great ones!). Fire pits, water, and refuse setup made all aspects of enjoying the site easy. There was no "oh this is hard bc we are camping", just pure enjoyment. The trails were lovely and the map was much appreciated. We wish we could have gotten to explore more, but our dog got sick and we headed home early. Mike was really understanding and refunded us our unused night, which we were surprised by, because it was certainly not expected/necessary by our point of view. Again, wish we could have fulfilled our stay and enjoyed another day, but hopefully we will be able to stop by again.

Weekend Trip to Twin Folk Farms

Staying at the cabin on Darla's land was a spectacular break from our norm and exactly what we needed! It is a bit of a walk from the parking area to the cabin itself, but truly enjoyable! (I feel like I can say that as I've had my hip replaced twice, most recently a year ago, it really is an enjoyable little hike) Inside was gorgeous, too! The ladder up to the loft area became easier to use with each use. The gas stove and oven was there for use and works well. While there may not be plumbing, the set-up she has works well, and as they say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The outhouse is surprisingly peaceful and the cabin toilet works as well. A delay stole a chunk of our trip but Darla graciously allowed us a later checkout for more time to explore and enjoy everything. Pets are welcome so we brought our cat, Evelyn. To ensure she was a good guest we brought her two beds, her litter box, as well as a little pop-up playpen that allows her outside with me, without having to worry about her running off (granted, at 22.5 lbs and 13 years old, she doesn't do much running around anymore) and found it unnecessary as the railing around the porch also has a wire fence around the bottom ensuring safety for pets And kids. hile we didn't get around to using them much, bikes were something we added on, as well as firewood, that definitely benefited our trip. This place is truly gorgeous and we are already hoping to book another! P.s. easy to get to even in a tiny Hyundai Elantra.
