Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. FAQ: Our cabin is an off grid (very limited power, now way to charge or plug in AC devices) post and beam structure that we built 9 years ago. It has a full kitchen, wood stove, and screened porch. There is a large (150 gallon) tank of water for doing dishes and camp showers but we do not suggest drinking it. There is a generous supply of lanterns (both battery and inflatable solar) flashlights and string lights for lighting. We have wired lights that run off DC power when there is enough solar and we provide some battery packs for charging phones. We highly suggest bring some way to charge any of your personal electronics. There is no reliable way to do that in the cabin.
This is a small two story timber frame cabin off grid and secluded deep in the woods. It has a separate outhouse as well as shower stall to use the solar shower bags in. The cabin has a king sized bed in the loft with a child size fold down bunk above it; there is also a pull out couch on the first floor. As well as a kitchen, screened in porch and fire pit. Linen, dishes and utensils are not included please bring all that you need. There is a propane 4 burner stove with oven and solar shower bags. Trash and campfire wood is included. We are very busy with kids and work, we try our best to clean and re-supply between guests but it is not always possible, please let us know if something needs attention!

Get your "groove" on or hang loose here on a precious little island with a big bridge just off route one in the heart of Midcoast. Hundreds of guests report the perfect balance of upbeat fun and chill time and call our place and hospitality "magic", "amazing" and "holy guacamole!" It is a lovely spot just off the beaten path but close enough to access the frey. :)
I welcome my guests personally and have likely had a chat before you booked. I like to know what your hopes and priorities are around your stay before I accept so I can meet both of our needs. When you arrive, I will greet you and share a little history/tour of the place. I accept travelers between 4 and 9 pm but like all of us schedules fluctuate and we can roll some. There's a strong chance on an average Maine clear summer evening, I have the campfire going and the solar lights around the yard are charged for their evening gentle show.
All of the spaces I rent are bedrooms only. You walk a few steps/yards to my 5 bedroom home and access two showers and some kitchen use. I also have an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen that is cute and for your use. It's fun to cook on the fire too! I prefer folks to limit cooking esp in hot weather but support healthier eating and may share some of my foraging tips. The rooms are equipped with plenty of linens and fan power. You will be cozy either way the temps go.
There is a lovely porch on the log home where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and lots of wildlife activity. The back yard has tether ball and lots of seating as well as the good sized fire pit with ghosts of hundreds of fireside chats gone by. I look forward to ours!
Next door there is a gravel road on a lightly traveled road for your walking or biking pleasure. I am happy to join you in a hilly roller coaster cycling experience and have a few bikes to offer up. I am a WWOOF host and have occasional "helpers" and you are welcome to explore my veggie and flower gardens.
This host loves board games and crafts so is often ready to share either or both with guests. There are 150 acres around me that are wooded and pathed so your pup will love it too. Reach out soon and let's chat about your vacation and visit here. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Cabin of the Woods is close to popular Mid-coast towns like Camden, Rockport and Rockland with all of their amenities while enjoying life in this off-grid all-natural relaxing setting. A 15-minute drive to Belfast allows you to find great lobster fresh from a lobster pound or pick up a meal and enjoy it while watching the daily life in Belfast Harbor and waterfront. You may also visit close by spots like Searsport Harbor or Sears Island. You can also take a short trip to Camden, Rockport or Rockland.
Although completely off-grid you have close shopping options with Hannaford, B &; M Market, Irving Oil, the Only Donut, the Super Scoop Ice Cream stand and even a YMCA only minutes from the Cabin.

Its like going back in time a hundred years but you have some cell reception, unlike our ancestors. Have made several improvements to cabin not yet reflected in guest photos. Yeti type cooler provided for refrigeration of food for longer stays. The cabin is small but can accommodate 5 easily. Queen bed with bunk beds in 1st floor bedroom, full size and twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Clean linens provided. Open kitchen and living room. Seems like most people love it. Pretty sure you will too. So much to do in the area. Be as bored or as active as you want. Welcome book with directions to local spots all very close. Waterfalls, the most beautiful lake (Onawa), swimming holes... all close by. Appalachian trail out back. Other sites close by must be driven to but close by still, away from town. A very sweet and rustic Hemlock cabin, along with secluded 17' and 14" bell tents, plus 2 private campsites sit along beautiful Webb Brook. Walk through the large open field, away from everything, to this storybook setting. All you can hear is the waters of the brook rushing and sounds of nature all around. Graham Lake is just a stone's throw away. Great for stargazing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. This magical place is just beyond our farm where we you can buy fresh duck eggs daily at the house.
In the cabin, upstairs, a lofted queen bed accessed by a sturdy wooden ladder. Downstairs, a wood stove with dining area, and living space with full sized convertible bed. No electricity, no plumbing, no wifi. Good cell service. Composting toilet and water tank for use inside cabin. Gas grill and firepit with tripod grate outside for cooking options. Two large picnic tables for outdoor dining. Truly a magical place.

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants.
In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like.
A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream!
*NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock.

Welcome to Lulu's. Where you can get a little crazy under the moon or you can take in the peace and serenity of the stillness in the woods. Depends on what you are looking for! No neighbors to infringe on your ideal get away. The large cabin has a welcoming front porch to enjoy the amazing sunrises over Streaked Mtn. 100 acres of privacy to hike, watch wildlife and just relax. Cabin has outside facilities. Off the grid-no electric or running water. Cell service is adequate. 1 gallon of fresh well water provided for drinking and 10 gallons for washing/cooking.
Bring your own linens for a queen size bed, twin bunk beds and a full pull out couch. 2 pillows are supplied with a pillow protective cover and pillow case which are washed after each guest. Pots, pans and utensils, are onsite which are washed between campers; trash bags, compost bags, paper towels, dish soap, dish towels and a 2 burner propane stove(green canisters needed) and an older propane table top grill are provided. Camp fire grill on site if you prefer cooking over open flame. There are some battery operated light switches and solar lights in the camp and outhouse. Casino, race track and breweries for night life. Oxford Hills has much to offer.

You'll arrive at our barn and home, probably greeted by a variety of animals.
Walking past the house and through the field towards the tree line, you'll arrive at our tiny cabin situated on a hill with the salt marsh below.
The tiny cabin is furnished with a full sized bed, a wooden bench, beehive working woodstove, and shelving. There are candle lanterns provided, however we suggest also bringing a few flashlights.
Depending on the season we have farm vegetables and eggs available, kayaks available upon request to use to explore the salt marsh and harbors right out in front of the cabin.
A short drive and you can find numerous hiking areas and beaches or take the longer 1 hour and 15 min ride to Bar Harbor.
The cabin is not visible to the main house, though sound may travel. You'll have a beautiful view of the water facing west for sunsets. We access the water and trails around the fields foraging for berries with our kiddos and dogs, along with rotating the grazing animals though we will provide ample space to respect your privacy.
A small gas grill and cooler can be provided.
Cabin has no electric or running water. Water can be accessed from the main house and/or barn pumps depending on season, however will need to be brought down to cabin. Outhouse is located nearby.

My step Dad Bob ‘discovered’ the island in the 1970’s when he was escaping the rat race and looking to get ‘back to the land’. Over the course of three years he built the island house by floating cedar logs across the bay, using a come-along to bring the up to the land, debarked and prepped them for building and set about constructing his off-grid, solar powered home. All without power tools.
Both my Mom and Bob were ardent environmentalists and peace advocates. For 20 years they lived year-round on the island and only left when their ages made it difficult to continue cutting/splitting/moving/burning wood and just the ordeal of living so remotely. Most visitors to the island agree the peaceful vibe continues and that is important to us.

• There is a hammock with a shade cover at the cabin for you to use.
• There is a bug net provided in the cabin if you're in need of some extra protection indoors.
• Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive with a few hiking trails.
• Baxter State Park & Acadia National Park are each an hour and a half away (just in opposite directions).
• A composting toilet is on site, with a scoop and bucket of sawdust to cover waste. I you need to pee, find a tree! If it's number two, use the loo!
• No electricity at the cabin or on the property
• No running or potable drinking water. Must bring in water.
• The cabin is quite cozy for 1-2 people and/or 1-2 fur babies. The cabin itself has an 8x10’ floor plan with a full size futon. The deck gives another 3’ to enjoy your inside/outside stay.
• The property DOES get full sun so be aware of finding shade throughout the day! I like to enjoy the river(s) and explore the area during the peak heat hours!
• Mosquitos like to come out at dusk. I do have some citronella candles but it would be best if you came prepared with bug repellent!
• There is a New tiny cabin construction on site!
• This cabin is NOT private - one dwelling is visible but it is also NOT a rental.

The Tuttle homestead was established October 2018. Our land is situated in the Maine mountains on 28 wooded acres. A working hobby saw mill, maple sugar shack and a green house are available to explore and experience with a guided tour by Mark. Local activities within a 10 mile radius include fishing and hiking. We are 30 minutes from Wolfeboro N.H, 60 minutes to Portland ME and 40 minutes from the White Mountains. Cornish Maine is only 10 miles down the road and has all your shopping needs.

Learn more about this land:Newly built cabin, one bedroom with two lofts. Small screen porch with river view. Gravity fed water for sink. Insulated with propane heat and generator available (campers pay for fuel used). Tv/dvd player available as well. Outside portable toilet, no shower. Walking trails, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife. Lulu’s 100 Acre Woods is a lovely private retreat spot. Abundant peace and quiet with a beautiful view. Total privacy, no one in sight. My dog thrived being able to run free! There is even a trail behind the cabin leading up to a beautiful vista—a very nice sunrise spot. The road up to the cabin is an adventure; I had no problems in a Subaru Forester, just make sure your vehicle is high enough off the ground and can handle “off roading”. Once you get up to the cabin, you may well not want to leave. Linda has provided everything you might need, and was very welcoming. Directions are clear and she has maps of the property/nearby trails that are easy to follow. One of the best parts is the fresh mountain spring down the road. 💧🩵 As with all camping, prepare for insects. It’s a beautiful area to explore, and just as beautiful a spot to stay in place, unplug, and enjoy the peace. Thank you Linda for having us, and for sharing this amazing spot! Would definitely come again, I can only imagine the beauty of autumn! 🍂 🧡

Our return to Hockomock was just as spectacular as the first time. With our 8 month old son and 8 year old dog onboard, it was the perfect place to disconnect from the rest of the world and truly be with each other and nature. We spent most of our time at the cabin watching the tides, waking up with the sun, and kayaking alongside a seal while eagles soared overhead. Every day was in the 90s, but the breeze off the water kept us comfortable, whether we were relaxing on the deck or cooling off with a shower in the kitchen. :)
We only left twice during our three night stay, once for Mile Beach and once for downtown Bath to enjoy live music and food trucks.
A few helpful tips for future Hipcampers:
1. The mosquitoes can be intense on the walk in, so bring bug spray or a Thermacell. Once at the cabin they were much more manageable.
2. The hike to the cabin is part of the adventure. It can be challenging in the heat, but the destination is worth every step.
3. This is a true off grid experience, so come ready to embrace nature.
4. Kayak access depends on the tide and takes a little effort, but it is absolutely worth it.
5. Rolling bags or sturdy totes make hauling your gear much easier.
If you are looking for an adventure and are not afraid to fully embrace nature in this dreamlike setting, this is the place for you!

Weekend Trip to Private Waterfront Cabin/Campsites
This is a place where you can feel at peace but still have everything you need, even though there is no running water or electricity..
They have thought of just about everything, to a full covered kitchen, to a vanity, to boats and a little shack filled with s'mores stuff, sodas and more. They even offer priced services from art class and cooked/baked meals
We must go back.

Robert is a great host. Very clear communication. This is a really special place. I don’t think the description and photos do it justice. It is only 10 minutes from home but it feels like we were deep in the wilderness. We loved paddling around the pond and even saw a beaver swimming by!
Sadly, my dog got a little too curious with a porcupine so beware if your dog is also determined to make friends with porcupines.

Weekend Trip to Cabin of the Woods at Tilden Pond
We absolutely loved our stay! Cabin was very clean and was well-stocked with extra supplies (soap, paper towels, sanitizer, napkins). Robert was very responsive and gave us great recommendations. Kayaking on the pond was a highlight. We especially enjoyed hearing and seeing the loons. Birders: bring your cameras and binoculars! You’re bound to hear and see quite a bit.

This camp was great. We enjoyed the access to the AT and walked on it both days we were there. The camp had everything we needed in terms of bedding. There was a great cast iron skillet that we used for most meals. The bathroom situation was great. Unusual to have a flush toilet. I would recommend this camp.

If you don’t enjoy amazing views, a porch that you won’t want to leave, relaxing atmosphere, cozy cabin, inviting firepit, and a perfect getaway that you want to be adopted into the family so you don’t have to leave, then this is not the place for you. The trail up to the overlook is well marked. The cabin is awesome, the property is relaxing, and watching the weather changes over the mountains is amazing.

Such a perfect spot for our weekend away with our dogs. The little cabin was perfect and came equipped with everything we needed. I loved hanging out on the front porch during a passing shower ❤️. The outdoor kitchen on the side had plenty of space for cooking and prepping and was covered to keep us protected during any rain. The fire pit was massive and made roasting marshmallows (curtesy of the outpost goodies) super easy and fun! We took full advantage of the boat launch area by letting our dogs swim, kayaking, and fishing. Tons of great fishing out here and a really cool ecosystem out on the pond! At night, the stars were incredible and the sound of the loons were so peaceful. We will definitely be back!

This cabin was just what I was looking for! Peaceful and quiet yet with every comfort you could imagine for an off-grid cabin. I have backpacked the Appalachian Trail including the 100-Mile Wilderness. It was great to be able to hike there from the cabin without carrying a full backpack, and to return to a bed, a kitchen with a stove, a flush toilet, and a shower. Paul was a great host with a quick response time for any questions.

1 night at Tir na nOg Farm
Such an adorable spot. The hobbit house was very clean and comfortable. Had fun interacting with the cows and chickens on the property. We took advantage of the farm-fresh breakfast and were so glad we did! Delicious and clearly a lot of thought and care went into it. There’s a cute little trail that snakes through the back of the property that was great for spotting cool mushrooms. Wouldn’t absolutely come back here and recommend it to others.

We had a fantastic visit at the Tiny house! It had everything that we needed, and we loved the large trees to provide shade just next to the house, particularly when the afternoon sun shines on the house. There’s a paved drive way right to the house where our young kids loved riding their bikes! Renting the canoe was a special bonus, with a very private area for swimming and relaxations We highly recommend and we would love to visit again.
