Slippery Rock Trails LLC

It's like staying over at your cool grandpa's property on the river. This is not a campground, it's even better. Just 3 tent sites directly on the river, quiet peaceful and beautiful. Lots of private trails to stroll and explore directly from camp. Site one has a bit more shade than the others, for tent campers there is one or two mostly flat spots to pitch a tent. The rest is on bit of a slope. Easy access to the water just down a small hill, great for a dip or paddling. Clean portapotty at the site with a metal trash can was very convenient. John was super nice and friendly, came down to chat a bit after we arrived and before we left. Overall it feels like you are way up in the wilderness while still being close to civilization. Only negative was some highway noise in the evening and occasional gunshots in the distance. 4.5/5 for this spot! Would stay again.

Camping on the River Bank

The campsite was private and on the river bank. It had a private trash bend and toilet that was clean. John met me at the gate and was accommodating by showing me to the campsite. I didn’t get to hear his story about the property but I hope he and his family are able to continue with the preservation of it. I did get to hear loons call which brought a sense of nature and what the family is trying to preserve. It was a wonderful experience and I would love to come back.

Camping along the river with geese

What I would like to write here is how horrible the place was, but I can’t because that would be the biggest lie! Slippery rock was amazing! You will find peace and quiet. Canadian geese out on the river. Trails to pass through. And very welcoming hosts !!! I pulled in late at night, exhausted- after a quick dinner climbed into our little bed on wheels and fell asleep. Woke the next morning and all I could say was WOW! The fall foliage was amazing. The field had tall grasses in it that the dog just enjoyed to no end and the sun off the river.. spent that morning in the next day exploring John and his family are amazing!! I cannot wait to go back!!

This was our 19th trip to Slippery Rock and as usual it was a very quiet and relaxing time. John is a very accommodating host and it is understandable why Slippery rock is one the top Hipcamps in Maine

Hands down the best Hipcamp spot we’ve ever stayed at! John and his wife met us upon arrival and accompanied us to the site and provided a map of all the extensive trails they’ve created on the property. The location is a beautiful, private point that feels remote and quiet, yet is still conveniently close to civilization. The setup is fantastic - it gives you a real camping experience with just the right touch of comfort, including a canvas tent on a platform, a propane cooking stove, fire ring, clean porta potty, and a canoe available for rent. The highlight for us (and especially our two labs!) was the private sandy beach. They had the absolute best time swimming and splashing around. We lucked out with gorgeous weather, wished we could have stayed longer, and will definitely be back. Thanks for an amazing stay, John and family!

Upon our arrival, John met us to drive us back to our campsite. The land is absolutely beautiful and it is obviously well cared for. Our campsite, #1, was spacious and had a beautiful view of the river. We were immediately welcomed by the sound of lions and other birds. The site is set off from the other sites and private. The porta potty was a nice perk and was extremely clean. We also appreciated the picnic table and fire pit. Our pup also loved the wide open space to explore. Between the open field and beach, she was in heaven!. Overall, a wonderful experience and we would 100% recommend this spot!!

Awesome spot

This site was really easy to get to with John’s directions and he had his daughter give me the lay of the land. I wish I had more time to spend here because it was so peaceful and gorgeous right on the water (my dog was in heaven) and lots of trails that I didn’t have time to explore! I hope to come back again soon!

Don't wait to book this one!

Best site ever!!! The most gorgeous hipcamp we've stayed at. The pics don't do it justice! Private little sandy beach on the river, SUPER comfy bed within the canvas tent, lots of amazing amenities (loved the canoe and so did our pup!) with the cooking stove and fire pit set up. Nice bonus of the porto potty as well. Can't wait till we get to come back!

Incredible Campsite for Kids

This spot is so wonderful it feels like a secret! One of the most beautiful campsites in the NE and with the best hosts. The property is close enough to town yet feels secluded. We stayed at Site 1, and not only is it a million dollar view, there’s an amazing beach area that feels like the PNW. The canoe was perfect, and the site has a picnic table, port a potty, and trash can. John and crew are true stewards of the land, and it shows. We will definitely be back. It was perfect for our 7 year old twins and although camping with a 19 month old takes a lot of vigilance, it was so so worth it.

Amazing weekend

John’s land is a little slice of heaven! My boyfriend and I had a lovely, romantic, peaceful stay in the tiny home :) Our first glamping experience was 10/10. The river access, walkable trails, views & wildlife really made this weekend unforgettable. Recommend taking a kayak out during sunset!

Heaven on Earth!!

Oh my goodness, this was Heaven on Earth! Spent 3 glorious days on John and Pat’s glorious property soaking it all in: the trails, beach, amazing views, beautiful breezes off of the river…so relaxing and private! Our dogs ran and ran, explored the shoreline, chased butterflies in rolling hills of milkweed and enjoyed time with us around the nightly campfires. We all slept so soundly with the sweet breezes blowing through our camper. Really enjoyed meeting our welcoming hosts, John and Pat, and learning about the land and river. Thank you for the memorable Labor Day Weekend 2026!!

Camping with animals, my dog too

It was yet another great experience. We had much better weather this time around and the fishing was great ok. We ended up hiking to one of the lakes on the property and caught loads of fish. Also, I was able to bring my new pup due to it being pet friendly. I will be back again.

Riverbank campsites

A perfect quiet restful campsite. Only 3 tent sites. The owners are conserving the 200 acres wild forest and open meadow to protect river front from development. Beautiful sandy beach just before the gated property. The owner really likes meeting his guests. Can't wait to go back.

Camp on the River!

Howdy everyone. It was a beautiful night camping at the property. John and his family were excellent hosts. Would absolutely recommend staying here. There was a porta-potty at the site with a fire pit and picnic table; a beautiful spot right on the river. Firewood was available for purchase as well as canoe and kayak rentals. John even provided us a history of the property which was very cool! Thanks for the awesome stay!

Cant Imagine a Better Experience

My husband and I had such an incredible time here! Karin greeted us on the first day and she was extremely kind and knowledgeable, sharing all the best places to explore and anything else we may need to know about our stay. We were very impressed with the site and how the hosts made sure to think of everything we could need. The site felt very private and secluded, with private beach access, and a canoe available onsite. A shed was onsite filled with firewood for purchase, paddles and lifejackets. A camp stove was provided along with a cooking grate for the firepit and a large jug of water. Tent was spacious, bed was comfortable, and the mosquito net was perfect for keeping bugs out so we could fully appreciate our surroundings. An evening storm did pass through late night, but the tent kept everything dry and safe. We loved being able to take the canoe out and explore the islands during the day, and relax on the beach and take in the Perseid meteor shower at night! We were able to see dozens of shooting stars in such a beautiful spot! John messaged us after the second day and graciously offered to let us stay an extra night. We were so thrilled and grateful to be able to stay in this magical place a little longer! John checked in on us and was very helpful and kind. His vast conservation efforts are part of what keeps this place so incredible! We cannot thank John, Karin and the rest of their family enough for creating such a wonderful experience. We cant wait to come back!
