Scars in the polished granite streambed tell the story of saw mills from the 19th century. Not far from the foundation of one of the more established farmsteads of the era, this campsite is tucked away from the road down by the rushing Bull Branch of the Sunday River. Whether you bake on the rocks after dipping, or toss a fly in a quiet pool, the river will soothe your soul. Explore endless mountains streams, trails to the Appalachian Trail, and remote dirt roads in the heart of the Mahoosucs from your secluded walk-in low impact tent site with privy. Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. There are five sites in total. Hillside, Riverside and Fireside each have a picnic table, they all share a fire pit and a privy and are on the side of the road closest to the river. Main Eastside and the North site also share a fire pit and privy, Main Eastside has a picnic table, these two sites are across the street from the river which is just a short walk away. Riverside: a more secluded site and closest to the river Hillside: the smallest site available and closest to the parking area, other campers will need to access their sites by walking past this campsite Fireside: closest to the communal fire pit and privy ** Parking is available at the top of the campsite. The sites are accessed down a steeper path. Gear carts are provided. 1 vehicle is permitted per site but additional parking is available across the street. Please inquire for directions/instructions. ** Main Eastside: our largest site, suitable for a large group, closest to the privy and fire pit, has a picnic table North Site: smaller site and located in the woods, campers drive past the Main Eastside site to access, this site has a more remote feeling, there is no picnic table but campers do have access to the shared fire pit at the Main Eastside site and the privy

Site 1 Riverside

Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. The Riverside site is the closet site to the river and a bit more secluded. Other campers will walk near the site to access the river. There is a shared privy nearby and access to the communal fire pit that is located at our fireside site. No additional outdoor fires are permitted. Please pay for firewood when booking. We ask you use our wood to avoid the risk of bringing foreign invasives to the valley. The Riverside site has a picnic table available. Per town ordinance, quiet hour is at 10pm. Please be respectful to our neighbors and anyone you are sharing the area with.

Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. The Fireside site is close to the Hillside location. It is straight ahead another 25 yards at the bottom of the steep hill. The Hillside and Fireside sites could combine nicely for a larger group. The Fireside site has a picnic table, and direct access to the communal fire pit. It is a shared fire pit area so please ensure you are welcoming others who wish to use the space. Per out town ordinance, quiet hour is 10pm. Please be respectful to our neighbors and anyone you are sharing the area with.

Site 2 Hillside

Deep swimming holes and trout fishing beckon. Our Hillside site (site 2) is immediately on the left as you come down the the 50 yd steep downhill. It is tucked next to the hill. As other campers enter and exit the general campsite they will walk by your site. Although closet to the parking, it is the smallest of the 3 sites on the river side. It is best for smaller families with only one larger tent or two smaller ones. It does have its own picnic table but no separate fire pit. Access to the communal fire pit at fireside is allowed. Per town ordinance, quiet hour is at 10pm. Please be respectful to our neighbors and anyone you are sharing the area with.

Main Eastside Site

Pull in past an old graveyard and continue a bit further down a leafy gravel track to find your secluded group or individual campsite. This remote, beautiful and peaceful site is within walking distance to the Sunday River Ledges and close to many other polished granite pools on the Sunday River. This site does not have direct river access however you can easily access the river through our other sites that are a short walk across the road. Experience a bit of peace and quiet, hike the numerous trails in the Bethel/Newry area, or bike old dirt roads directly from the site. This is the group or Main site, where the shared firepit (with North site) is located, it is large enough for a group. It's possible to pull a vehicle into it. Due to run off issues these sites aren't appropriate for large campers and R.V.'s Parking is just below the group area along a group of trees that split the driveway. There is a shared privy on the right as you approach the sites. Per our town ordinance, quiet hour is at 10pm. Please be respectful to our neighbors and anyone you are sharing the area with.

North Site

Pull in past an old graveyard and continue 100 yards down a leafy gravel track to find your secluded individual campsite beyond the NW corner of grassy glade of the group site a short way up a dirt track. You will see thin orange posts marking the entrance to the site. This woodsy, peaceful site is within walking distance to the Sunday River Ledges and close to many other polished granite pools. This site does not have direct river access however you can easily access the river through our other sites that are a short walk across the road. Experience a bit of peace and quiet, hike the numerous trails in the Bethel/Newry area, or bike old dirt roads directly from the site. It's possible to pull a vehicle into it. Due to run off issues this site isn't appropriate for a large camper or R.V. You can park a truck or 2 small cars close to the campsite but the main Parking is just below the group area along a group of trees that split the driveway. There is a shared privy on the right as you approach the sites and a communal fire pit that is located at the Main Eastside site. This site does not have a picnic table and is a bit more rustic and remote. Per town ordinance, quiet hour is at 10pm. Please be respectful to our neighbors and anyone you are sharing the area with.

The site was lovely and as expected - riverside with a picnic table and a nice wide flat surface for setting up our 2-person tent. As described, it is a fairly steep (but wide) path to get down to the site, though we managed even after dark with head lamps on and a slow pace. There is a shared fire pit for all three sites at one of the sites. The privy was clean, well maintained, and centrally located. The host, Abi, was responsive and provided detailed information about how to get to the site, the expectations, and amenities.

We tent camped at the Riverside site in late October and had a wonderful time! Our firewood was waiting for us by the pit and we had a great night camping. Bathroom is clean and well stocked and the river is only a few steps away. Lovely all around and an A+ experience communicating with Abi. Thank you!

Beautiful views. No one else was camping at the other 2 sites, so having a "communal fire pit" wasn't an issue. Hauling all of the gear up the steep hill back to the car was challenging but the host has carts and a wheelbarrow to help.

Beautiful spot. Site 2 is very small but on flat land so its easy to make room and just rake it back to how it was when you arrived. Kids loved sliding down the rocks but if you have a tube it is a lot more fun. The hil in and out is tuff. The privy is clean and host is lovely.

This site was really beautiful. There’s nothing like waking up to a flowing river and mountain views. The site itself was well kept and had a picnic table. It’s pretty close to two other sites, as described. We were lucky to have kind, respectful neighbors but this site feels better suited for a family and friends type of trip. Two things to note- The bees on Riverside site were pretty bad. We had to eat in our tent because we were swarmed. It’s a risk of being outside but I’d caution people with bee allergies since there were so many. The other downside was how open to the public this site was. I didn’t realize we were basically camping in the nature version of DisneyWorld. People use the trail to get to the river and our experience was dampened by a drunk jerk who wouldn’t leave my 12 year old daughter alone and people letting their dogs into our camp site who peed and pooped on everything. That’s not Abi’s fault by any means but it’s something to consider. Abi communicated the steepness of the hill well and provided a wagon to haul everything up and down. Overall, I’d say they do all they can to provide a lovely spot, and, it’s not exactly the retreat from society we were hoping for. Regardless, we’re grateful for the experience!

We stayed at Site 1 and really enjoyed our stay. We were the only people camping within the area for the day and had the pool all to our selves. The directions provided were accurate and very detailed and should be followed thoroughly as finding the parking lot in the dark would be hard. The sites were very clean and the walk down from the parking lot wasn’t to hard but if you had lots of items to bring might be annoying to carry up and down the pathway (carts are provided to help with transporting items from your car). There is also a swimming hole located near by with great opportunity’s for cliff jumping.

Perfect spot for a trip. Isolated, peaceful, really nice that there’s a tarp over the picnic table. A bit tricky to find the way to the river, but worth it! We’ll be back!

Do you like being the village idiot? Perfect, then site 2 at magical mountain retreat is a great fit for you. Get ready to drive 3 hours into the wilderness, just to have dozens of uncomfortable interactions with complete strangers. The site? Fit for dwarves. While small, you do have the luxury of the site being located directly on the only access trail for the 2 other campsites, with no tree cover or privacy of any kind. We enjoyed avoiding eye contact with strangers while getting changed, listening to dubstep music until 2AM, and, of course, lugging all of our shit up and down the hill. Obviously there is no proper flat surface for your picnic table, so get ready to grab those hot dogs off the ground. At least you can cozy up by the fire as the sun sets, right? Wrong! The “communal” fire pit is located in the center of site 3, where you can expect them to set up their tents around the perimeter of the pit. While there’s likelihood of an obligatory “you guys can totally use the fire if you need to bro” there is no way to actually enjoy a fire without encroaching on others personal space. This was easily the worst camping experience of my life.

North Site
Overall this area is great, we were really excited for our trip based on all of the great reviews. Unfortunately the North site did not match the reviews for us. Just want to give a heads up because I wish we would have known the difference in site selection. It seems like the North site is the newest and felt like an afterthought. It doesn't have any river access, no picnic table, and I didn't realize prior to booking that you would need to share firepit with the group site. The group site and other riverside spots seem much better.

The style of hosting for a campsite was perfect! We purchased the firewood bundle, it was left in a nice dry place which was clutch since it rained for 2/3 days. We were able to make a nice fire even though the world was underwater! The campsites were clean, the river was close, it was beautiful and I couldn’t ask for a better location. Thanks Abi!

Cool site by the river. It's a shared firepit. Me and 10 others decided to get all three sites and that was fantastic. Made for a super private campsite. Site was well kept. Path was well kept. Hill from car to camp was a little steep but not overwhelming with gear. Would recommend this site ti anyone. Host was great.

Awesome campsite nestled by the river. Our group got all three sites with 8 tents and had an absolute blast. Nice and private. Waterfalls were incredible. Fell asleep to the sound of the river. Parking area was good for 5 cars. Path to the site was a workout but the host has carts to transport gear. We bought firewood in advance and it was waiting for us upon arrival. Would recommend this site to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.

This place is awesome. There was very little traffic on the road. I didn't hear or see a single car. The amenities are clean and well maintained, including the woodshed, privy, and picnic tables. There is a pretty steep hill to get down and into the sites. I brought a 4 wheeled cart and it was excellent but difficult to get back up to the car. I would recommend a bear hang or cannister to avoid walking up and down the hill multiple times for meal time. The privy is separate from all sites, but easily accessible from all sites. This is right next to the river which was excellent white noise. There is a pool that you could take a dip in. It was very quiet. The only wildlife we encountered were some rather active toads. The site itself was roomy with a nice flat area to put the tent.

Would highly recommend camping here! Site 2 Hillside is perfect for one or two guests. I had no trouble finding the pull off or my campsite thanks to Abi's clear directions. Will definitely book again!

This was SUCH a beautiful campsite, one of my favourites that I’ve ever been to! The river was so beautiful, the trails and sites were really well maintained, and directions and everything were really clear! Will definitely be coming back!

I loved spending the weekend on Abi’s land! I booked the riverside camp ground and loved how close the water was. The directions to find the campsite were clear and everything was as described. The nearby trails and swimming hole up the road were fun to visit and the campground is located about a 30 min drive from Grafton Notch State Park. I would definitely camp here again with friends!

The river is beautiful! Its a very nice and quiet place. But expect to make friends at this campsite as the "community firepit" is inside tent site 3, so if people need the fire to cook food, you're gonna get to know them. Would be nice if the community pit was more centralized and not within one of the tent sites. Also lots of people walk right through the campsite to get to river so a suggestion for the owner would be to put up a sign saying that the parking/trail is for campers only. All in all, a very nice place, but if you're trying to avoid people while camping, I might suggest looking elsewhere. Can't beat the location though!
