Enjoyed my stay! Arrived after dark and Tom made a point to come find me lost and show me my way. Great view of stars and short walk to the public beach. Loons and owls all night!

Great spot for a weekend! Tom and JP were extremely friendly and helpful. The lake is perfect and our kids spent a whole day swimming, jumping off the floating dock and playing the boats that Tom provided.

A clean, well-kept area and easy to find. We had the luck of no one tent camping at the same time so this site was secluded enough. Tom also greeted us while we were setting up and shared recommendations nearby. I'd recommend this spot to a friend.

It was a great weekend at Tom’s. He has some construction going on for a new bath house so he moved us away from the noise and upgraded us to have electrical. His Handy man Jp was very helpful and a pleasure to chat with. This place is a campground in progress but that didn’t stop us from having a great time. Beanies beach just down the road was beautiful and refreshing. Plan on going back again!! Can’t wait to see all the new improvements. Thanks Tom and Jp for a pleasant experience.

We had a great time here, granted we did not stay around the campsite throughout the stay. There was some noisy construction happening while we were there (no fault of Tom or the site), but it is definitely in more of a densely settled area than we expected. This is a great spot to jump around to Rangeley, Mt Blue State Park, and Tumbledown. Tom was very kind and accommodating and did a great job of letting us know where everything was. The public beach is ~0.5 miles down the road and has nice views, picnic tables, and charcoal grills. If you’re looking for a spot to rest your head, it’s safe, comfortable, and quiet at night.

Nice spot! Private if nobody is at the site across from you but not very private with neighbors. The fire pit was awesome Tom's suggestions for where to get wood nearby were perfect. I felt safe there and it was pretty quiet. Definitely use the second entrance for the lower field sites ( just a little further past the main one). The fireflies after dark were magical! There was soooo many.

Exactly what the doctor ordered! The field was muddy (tis the season) but Tom was in communication and warned us about the conditions a few days before the trip, so we were able to prepare. There wasn’t any firewood for purchase at the site but we were able to make do. Instructions for how to reach the site were clear and the site was easy to get to, though the road is muddy so two-wheel drivers proceed with caution. Overall a good trip and was a great way to test out some new backpacking gear that we had. Also, the lake is a short walk away and gorgeous! Would love to return in the summer when we can swim.

Had a nice 3 day stay here at the Upper Nook at Hole In The Wall. Was only one other camper on site, and given it's fairly remote location, it was extremely quiet and peaceful! The weather wasn't so cooperative, but we enjoyed the stay anyways. My only criticism is that the site was supposed to have water available...it was not. Due to the cold weather, Tom had pulled the pump. Although we completely understand the necessity, an advance notice should have been given so we could have equipped ourselves better for a "no water" situation!

Access was good. I really like the fact that there was a big "OPEN" flag at the gate to ensure we found the right place. The site was level enough and we wanted power for the night and it worked well.
There were bins with "Firewood $5" on them, but they were empty. That was not ideal but there were plenty of blow downs to burn so it worked out as it was cold and a fire was really desired.
There was an outhouse. Clean and did its job.
All in all a good place to stay.

A weekend at The Upper Nook was just what was needed for body and soul. We enjoyed a walk up Taylor Hill and back along the ITS trails to take in the fall foliage, and a return visit to Smalls Falls nearby. Tom was a gracious host and gave us lots of suggestions for things to do. No problem parking our 32’ Class A. We enjoyed our stay!

This is such a hidden little gem if you’re okay with no power or running water. It was nice and quiet, plenty of space between camp sites but also close enough to make friends. It’s a very short walk (about 7minutes) to porter lake, and it’s well worth it! Our dog loved the area as well. Tom swung by and said hello, let us know where things were and was friendly. Def worth it!

When you arrive it’s clearly labeled so don’t be fooled yes it’s right there, inside that big open mossy space, 4 picnic tables, pits and pond. Get ready to put your swim suit on and walk or drive to the town beach. My friends, my 2 pups and I kayaked to the island, it was so wonderful. My bf brought his fishing pole. We seen the loons, mushrooms and pine cones everywhere, so beautiful.

The land is well kept and amenities are easy to find. The land is pretty level so it’s easy to set up (we had a 12 foot tear drop trailer). When Tom introduced himself and his mother, they were both very kind and explained that they have kayaks for campers at the pond nearby. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to get away for a little while, not a whole lot of traffic on the nearby road.

Great stay! Easy to find and having access to an outhouse and power was great. The sun came out in the morning while I enjoyed my coffee. I had a chance to go down to the beach for a dip before heading back on the road.
I can’t wait to go back and take the kayaks out to the rope swing!

We loved our stay. The site was level for our tent and fire pit worked well. Wood on site to buy was a nice plus. The best part was taking the canoe on the lake and exploring the island. The outhouse could use a wipe down, and fresh paint, but it’s an outhouse! and we spent very little time in it;) We will come again.

We absolutely loved camping at hole in the wall camping. Tom & his wife were absolutely amazing to us & we will definitely be going back! It was the perfect honeymoon escape!!

There was nice grass underfoot rather than hard ground and roots like many camp sites. The area was open but shade is available too. It’s an easy walk to the public beach and landing. Except for the sound of jet skis, it is in a reasonably quiet area for being off a public beach access road. And we were there on July 4th so … The camp spot itself was very quiet when we stayed, got lucky camping near quiet people. There is little to no phone signal, at least for my carrier Verizon. The surrounding countryside is very beautiful.

The sites were very close together with little to no privacy. The bathroom was also really bad, it looked as if it had never been cleaned before and had plentiful amounts of spiders. Tom was very nice though.

The canoes and kayaks available for use was awesome. We loved paddling the lake and exploring the island there. I will say you are pretty close to the neighbors without much privacy. That was okay for us because our neighbors were great people. We loved our stay overall!

This was interesting to get into, especially in the dark with a big rig. There were two driveways apparently, we did know this and took the first. It was marked HipCamp. A lady helped us who was apparently also staying there. We had to back out and drive farther down the road then back into the lower area. It was ultimately fine, but hairy to get into the site properly. I will say it was quiet. The outhouse was impeccably clean. That was nice. And the next day,we checked out the lake/beach which was gorgeous, down the road a ways.
