This homestead operates solely on solar power and is completely off-grid, featuring chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys. Guests can savor fresh eggs, as well as vegetables from the greenhouse and garden, which they are welcome to pick themselves. Additionally, there is a natural spring-fed pond spanning 2 acres, where guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, rowing, and pedal boating with all equipment, including paddles and life jackets, provided on site.
All sites are within walking distance of a very clean restroom, which is equipped with a flush toilet, a sink with running water, and a solar-powered light that turns on automatically. Additionally, there is an ample supply of toilet tissue and paper towels, and it also smells good too!

Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

Our camp is located on a quaint pristine, offshore Maine island. We are an easy 1 mile walk from the ferry landing once you arrive.
We have a shared use golf cart for our guests to get to and from camp!
Great Cranberry Island is a beautiful peaceful place where the pace of life slows, nature abounds and the stars are bright.
There is a small well stocked general store,, a museum, cafe and miles of pristine trails and rocky beaches to explore. Bicycles can be brought on the passenger ferries and are a great way to get around and further explore the island.
Our camp is on the site of our former organic farm called Cabin Creek Farm overlooking the ocean (a tidal estuary called the pool), where we grew flowers, herbs and veggies.
You can even kayak directly to us at high tide.
The sites are a combo of a mixed manicured deciduous and conifer forest and open spaces with ocean views.

We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an fledgling orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. There are five sites in total. Hillside, Riverside and Fireside each have a picnic table, they all share a fire pit and a privy and are on the side of the road closest to the river. When we first purchased our property, we were made aware of a young fella needing a spot to set up his yurt. He lived with us for two years before moving along. We had enjoyed having him and his yurt on our land so when he left, It left a virtual and metaphorical hole.
A couple years later we had an opportunity to purchase a yurt from an outdoor adventure company and so it began. We improved upon our tenant's idea by adding a proper outhouse and outdoor shower area. The space offered us a quiet haven during hectic times and now we are ready to share that opportunity.
Our yurt sits on a quiet and private nook on our 7 acre property. We are right in between Kennebunk and Biddeford so there are quite a number of areas to explore if you make us your home base. It is a lovely 6 mile ride to Goose Rocks Beach or you can spend an afternoon walking around Dock's Square in Kennebunkport. Biddeford is a rapidly rebuilding mill town that has made several high profile food and travel publications for its great dining spots.
If you are visiting to get away from the city, we are less than a mile away from the Eastern Trail which connects South Portland to Kittery, ME. Bring a bike or plan a quiet walk. We have a little fire pit so feel free to spend the day here and enjoy the birds.

The Wakefield Wildlife Sanctuary was generously bequeathed to the Kennebec Land Trust in November 2016 upon owner Kendra Wakefield Shaw’s passing. Its 108-acres feature historic cabins and 4000 feet of frontage on Cobbossee Stream in West Gardiner. The property’s coniferous and deciduous woods, vernal pools, and marshlands are important habitat for many species of birds, mammals, and plants.
In 2018, the Maine Cabin Masters renovated two of the stream-side cabins, which now serve as rustic getaways for Hipcampers and the like.
A small dock and canoes are available for use on the wide and deep flatwater stream!
*NEW 2024 - A dock has been added to cabin 2, so each cabin now has it's own private dock.

We had a fantastic weekend at Leketa and Hillary’s land! The camping spaces are secluded and quiet, right along the water. The tent platforms are very helpful, and the grill grate provided is ideal for cooking over the fire. Having coffee and watching the sun come up over the water was absolutely perfect! There are tons of birds, we heard eagles and loons each evening. Next time we’ll make sure to bring our kayaks and fishing poles. Leketa and Hillary are amazing, they made us feel right at home and communication is on point! We can’t wait to come back! 😊🏕️

Simply spectacular… a most beautiful and very private spot with lots of thoughtful details like wood chip areas to keep down dirt and mud and a lovely outhouse. Tons of space with 3 neatly evened tent sites. We had a 20 ft travel trailer which we managed to tuck into the site . Road is right there but only one or two cars passed all evening. Note, road from Howlin has about a 3 mile stretch that is washboard dirt. We left by going towards Milo and that avoided the dirt road section.

This is such a lovely and peaceful spot. It's so clear that a lot of thought went into the details. The main house can be seen from the campsite but it still feels very private (compared to others I've stayed at) because of the direction the yurt faces and tree coverage. Everything you could think to need is provided, while still maintaining the feeling of sleeping under the stars. Would have loved to stay longer!

There was a porta-potty at the site with a fire pit and picnic table; a beautiful spot right on the river. Firewood was available for purchase as well as canoe and kayak rentals. John even provided us a history of the property which was very cool! Thanks for the awesome stay!

Gorgeous site and amazing island! It’ll be a long time until I’m in a place this wholesome again. We were pleasantly surprised during our short stay by an island music festival called Dockstock. Extremely friendly and welcoming islanders, beautiful event, and a peaceful campsite to go back to at night. We expected to stay on the island at night and spend most of our time on the mainland in Bar Harbor and Acadia, but it was so lovely we stayed on the island the whole trip. Incredible property, we were very moved and impressed by Mike’s personal story of the land’s transformation. Each campsite placement was so well thought out, and we especially appreciated the access to boats, water, and veggies. Even the outhouse was beautiful haha. If you get the opportunity, definitely camp on Bobcat Island. You park and it’s a super simple and quick walk over a short bridge, and the island itself feels very cozy and peaceful. Would love to come back!

Best campground for families with children and doggies! , they have a doggy 🐕 play area, pool, bouncy floor area, playground, gem mining area, rec room with bathrooms/showers inside and washing machines! And you HAVE to go out at night and see the beautiful stars !! Juay stare at the sky and let your eyes adjust for a few seconds! Cabin 1 is so far the best and a bit more private if you park your car sideways for a bit more privacy from the rv camper next to you and it's very close to all amenities like only steps away! So if you have little ones I highly suggest cabin 1!! Especially if you need to do late night bathroom trips or for washing your laundry etc! Also the camp store is connected to the amenities. The food is AMAZING tasted like your local restaurant the pizza is sooo cheesy and delicious 😋 tenders, mozerela sticks etc was so good, prices were really good too ! The staff of women i saw and interacted with are so friendly!!! The vibes was just perfect. Love it, highly recommend for families with children, they will love it! Also they have movie nights on Fridays 😊 it was worth the 5 hour trip! Also there were many with atvs so i bet those people had a blast too riding around! Also if your hesitant about bringing bicycles for your little ones , you totally should! The road is perfect for bikes , even saw little ones with training wheels riding around like nothing so perfect flooring !

We had an amazing time camping on Claude’s property! It was 4 adults and our 2 boys. 8 and 9. They had a blast exploring the rocks and the swimming hole was a complete hit!!
The site was spacious and clean. Wood and tiki torches provided! We will definitely be back!!
