We stayed here last year for 4 nights and booked a weeklong trip this year, and it was even better this year. We had 5 different camping trips this summer, and this is by far the best. I can't recommend Cranberry enough, and the hurdles to get here (frequent passenger ferry...no car ferry) is what makes Cranberry amazing and how you can have a beach to yourself at the height of tourist season. Can't wait to come back again next year. Thanks Gary!

We had an amazing time staying at Gary’s campsite! Staying here was such a special and unique way to experience Acadia, and it really enhanced our trip. Great Cranberry Island is such an incredible place, and we feel so lucky to have gotten a taste of living on the island. The campsite was beautiful with all the camping amenities we needed. There was a well-stocked outhouse nearby, potable water nearby at the community center, and a lovely covered common area. The golf cart and bikes were so useful and made it much easier to explore the island and get to the ferry. Gary was such a kind host and answered all of our questions about the island and campsite. If you’re looking to camp near Acadia, I highly recommend getting off the beaten path and staying with Gary!

Camping on Nikita and Gary’s island was tons of fun! We got to watch Nikita do her fire spinning, hang out around the campfire, ride around on the bikes, and enjoy their company. They are absolutely excellent people and I would highly recommend camping with them.

I loved camping at Gary’s on Great cranberry island!! If you’re looking for a nice place close to Acadia then look no further! The ferry to the island is super affordable, Acadia is only 20min drive from Northeast Harbor, and the people there are so welcoming! Cabin Creek Farm is such a nice, secluded area to camp at as well, lots of privacy and large common areas to meet fellow campers. I feel like we met half the island during our 2 night stay and we were on the mainland most of the time! The islanders are very nice and have some super interesting stories that they loved sharing. 10/10 will be going again.

My husband and son and I loved staying at Gary’s place and will definitely be back! The adventure started with a gorgeous boat ride, a fun golf cart adventure to his property, and then a fun time sleeping over. He was so kind and generous and let us move to an even better spot that was available. There’s not a bad spot to be had! It’s perfectly quiet there except we happened to be next to a loud frog. Ha ha! Next time I’ll bring ear plugs in case. The property is beautiful, clean, beautiful views, and there is nothing like being on a Maine island. It’s laid-back, time moves slowly, and the people are the salt of the Earth. My son loved learning to drive a golf cart and had fun using one of Gary’s bikes. We explored the island, had delicious breakfast sandwiches and ice cream at the General Store, and popped in to see part of a movie being shown at the Cranberry House. We were so touched by the closeness and love in the community. Thank you for sharing your slice of Heaven with us, Gary!

My family and I had a good time camping at Cabin Creek Farms. We enjoyed having the shared use space to eat and the bonfire to sit around. Gary was a great host, very friendly and accommodating. We liked walking around the island to explore the coves and the island's library.

For those with a taste for adventure craving a quieter experience, cranberry island is for you. Please see my previous review for specifications. Can’t express how important and meaningful our time at cranberry island has been, my kids keep asking to move there, we hope to come again and again! Thank you Gary for opening your home to us.

We camp back for a second year camping at Cabin Creek with friends over 4th of July weekend! It’s such a sweet spot and fun time of year to be there. Loved having the bikes on hand to get around the island and Gary is generous with his use of the golf cart to get two and from the dock, it is so appreciated. Can be a bit buggy and wish we could have fires at each individual site, but the communal fire is nice too.

What an amazing spot! The sites were clean with all the necessary amenities. The location was perfect for exploring the island and close to the general store and cafe. Gary made are stay even more enjoyable by welcoming us and making sure we had everything we needed. He even kept a bonfire burning for us and the other guests all weekend. There are bikes for use that make it even easier to explore the whole island. I would highly recommend Gary’s place!

This island is such a magical spot. Gary and the other people on the island were so welcoming. The lit communal space and continual bonfire makes the space feel warm. You also can’t beat the views. Would love to make our way back at some point!

My kids and I loved our weekend at Cabin Creek Farm. Gary was incredibly involved, offering bikes to help us enjoy the island, a golf cart to help us schlep our gear, answering tons of questions we had about swimming, ferries, etc etc and he kept the bonfire roaring with giant logs. Gary's location is beautiful and very well maintained and anyone who gets out here will be richly rewarded.

Gary has thought of everything and the camping was beautiful. The ocean sites sacrifice a bit of privacy for the view but that was worth it. Getting to the island felt daunting from afar, but everything went smoothly. The general store has most things you could need food-wise too! Great Cranberry won our hearts. Genuine, kind people and a beautiful, well-cared for island. Our dog had the time of her life. We will be back without a doubt.

AMAZING!!!!! What an incredible adventure. I kayaked to Great Cranberry Island from the mainland and spent an incredible night looking at the stars with Gary and other guests at his bonfire. Gary was such an incredibly gracious host. I accidentally misplaced my bag of food and he put out an all-points bulletin across the island, which successfully turned my bag up within a matter of hours. He was kind, generous, and had so many interesting stories to tell. I would definitely highly recommend spending a night or a week there.

Camping here was utterly magical! I am already making plans to come back here. Ocean views on one side, a beautiful meadow on the other. The site is private and there is a communal greenhouse you can gather under if you want to meet other campers. The ferry to the island was a blast! One of my favorite parts of our whole trip. We rented bikes on the mainland and biked around the island (which turns out we didn’t need to do because Gary kindly lends out bikes at the campsite) but it was so much fun to explore the island! Preble cove is stunning - we saw otters there in the morning. The general store has amazing breakfast sandwiches also if you’re looking for a break from camp food. All in all this campsite was the highlight of our trip! Also Gary was incredibly flexible - we needed to change the day we were coming the week of due to some schedule changes and were able to do it easily.

The unexpected highlight of our Acadia trip (and we did many incredible things.) An experience like this is everything I hoped for when I downloaded the Hipcamp app. I can’t believe I’m saying this but it was better than Acadia. Gary’s property is paradise and he is an excellent host, personable and helpful and all around extremely interesting person. Bonfire chats were peaceful and illuminating. We witnessed the most spectacular sunset and sunrise (ask Gary where to go) and saw a starscape that is beyond anything this city dweller could have imagined, the Milky Way was so clear! SOME ADVICE: this is the perfect adventure if you’re willing to put in some extra effort as opposed to regular car camping. It’s well worth it! Get to the ferry dock early to situate and organize yourself, and get to the island early so you can explore. Read all the instructions, they’re very clear but you gotta read them. Give yourself time. We spent the day there after camping and I’d go back to spend much more time there on the island. The locals were so friendly! My kids were able to truly be kids, spending hours at the beaches and exploring. I could write a book about our experience, I can’t say enough good things. If this feels like it may be the right fit for your outdoorsy personify then you won’t regret going. Thank you so much Gary. We will be back.

My partner and I had a nice time staying at Gary’s campsite number #2. The location is nice and quiet. We loved walking over to the cafe and museum, and especially Preble Cove for a (chilly) swim (the stones were warm though). The general store was great for a breakfast sandwich and treat. We happened to be on the island during their summer festival which was a definite highlight. Fyi the museum’s upstairs + the library were good spots to charge phones if needed (the library hallway remains open outside of opening hours). Thanks for a glimpse into island life!

Cabin Creek Farm was the perfect mix of a secluded oasis and a convenient step away from all the island has to offer. Gary was the most gracious and hospitable host we could have dreamed of. He made our stay more than memorable with his wonderful suggestions, willingness to help with anything and his patience and adoration of our pup. We explored the island top to bottom and enjoyed the slow pace, lack of cell service and the ability to bike anywhere we wanted to go. We were at camp 4 (meadow). This was pretty much across from the fire pit which worked great for us as we frequently cook camp meals over the fire and the kiddos love the s’mores. However, if you’re seeking more privacy and killer views definitely ocean 1 and 2 would be the best. A couple tips as we barely made the last ferry, reservations and tickets to GCI are made online and best to reserve ahead of time. The general store closes at 4 and isn’t open Sunday’s so be sure to plan ahead. Inner island ferry travel is free once you’re out there so you can travel and explore the others if you like. 10/10 the adventure was worth every bit of the work it took to get there and stay there for several days!
