The cabin at White Duck Farm

We built this cabin recently with siblings and a few skilled friends to make a getaway place for the extended family. It is built on property adjacent to our fruit farm which is slowly building up to full production with a kiwi orchard planted, ramps seeded, saffron planted, and a producing raspberry hoophouse for early ripening fruit. We move our horse and pony around to different fields during the warmer months, and keep pekin ducks (the white ones) (now all in retirement!). The farm is 80+ acres with logging roads and is located on a quiet road. Food markets and some good places to eat are within 6-7 miles. If you come in the fall you should know that the roof is insulated but the walls are not - so layer up, bring extra blankets, and hugging the woodstove might be necessary!

Cabin between a field and the woods
Quiet cabin in the woods
We were planning to spend the weekend in the area and this was just what we needed. The camp was private, well maintained and clean, and had everything we could need. Both the wood stove and the outdoor fire pit were all set up for us. We enjoyed playing games by kerosene lamp and had a restful sleep both nights. Barbara was quick to respond and checking in and out was simple. We plan on keeping this one on our list of places to stay while in the area!

Charming cabin
Gorgeous cabin on the edge of the woods! My dogs and I spent most of our time on the huge screen porch. Just about everything you couldn't was supplied. Plenty of water, solar shower, camp stove, fire pit, dishes, coffee press. I could move in there and be perfectly happy!

Serene, indeed! Great layout, comfortable bed with space to sit and enjoy coffee inside and out. The screened in deck offered an ideal place to enjoy sunrise or sunset, and to enjoy the sounds of this charming farm.

Cabin between a field and the woods
Barbara and Chris' farm is a beautiful spot. Very quiet yet close to town. They grow an abundance of veggies and a greenhouse full of raspberries. Cabin has a well-equipped simple kitchen. Clean, well-maintained outhouse. Fantastic screen porch for dining and a field full of blueberries. The solar power was out but we did well with all of the kerosene lanterns. Ask Chris about the best swimming hole and hiking right down the road. We got some lobsters right off the boat at Community Shellfish in Bremen -- say hello to Anthony threre.

Cabin between a field and the woods
Simple comfort, Fireflies, open sky
I came here alone with my dog for a solo retreat into the woods, and the peace and quiet was just what I was looking for. Barbara’s cabin was super sweet—very clean, well stocked with kitchen and lighting supplies, with a lovely porch overlooking the field on the property. Both nights I had a fire in the fire pit—I steamed clams in one of the pots in the kitchen and roasted corn over the fire. Got to watch a beautiful cloud show play out over the open field and enjoyed the fireflies lighting up the woods. It was quite buggy but overall that’s my only complaint! I just used a lot of bug spray and that was helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay, Barbara :)

Cabin between a field and the woods
I loved my time at Barbara and Chris's cabin. There's no other campsites and you're surrounded by trees and a lovely field. There were suprisingly not a lot of bugs while I was there. I might have gotten lucky but I always come prepared. The whole place is clean, orderly and thoughtfully put together. Barbara is friendly and amazingly quick to respond to questions. I'm definitely coming back!

Very quiet
It was a wonderful retreat for us. No running water and no electricity made the cabin very very quiet. It also meant we only stayed 2 nights! Since we were there in the fall, we were too chicken to take an outdoor shower! We did enjoy the wood burning stove and used it to warm the house and a few leftover biscuits.

Serenity is here.
Soooo peace filled! After just moving out of our intown apartment, this place was a much needed respite! It was lovely to simply rest and take in the simple beauty of the moment. I LOVED the wood stove! It is much like the one on my old farm, so I felt right at home. It's a fast stove, in that it heats up quickly, and bursts very high heat, so DO mind the pots! (FYI: Green wood helps temper the heat and spread it out more) So nice to cook on it, and reconnect with the earth honoring, satisfying actions of living simply, quietly, peacefully. Loved walking the trails with my dog, enjoying the birdcalls, he taking in all the smells. When we were indoors, we really liked getting an eye full of forest out of the big windows. On our first morning, a flock of grackles moved through, sifting leaves and looking for grubs, and all of us (dog, cat and moi) were transfixed with wonder as we watched them. Sitting out on the porch in the afternoon light as it crawled across the meadow...so serene! The loons added their calls at dawn and dusk each day, and I so needed to hear them. Enjoyed the farm tour, and learning about the interesting crops Barbara grows. Chris's paintings adorn the walls of the cottage. My fave? The one with a seagull and eagle at the fishladder. Those two are having a conversation! I look forward to coming back to hear the woods come alive with birds during the long slow unfolding of spring. This place is exactly what we needed!

One of the best
Loved it! The kids enjoyed the loft, I really appreciated the kitchen facilities and we all loved the clear skies and fire pit at night. Proximity to nearby sights is a huge plus considering how quiet and isolated it felt being there. We'll be coming back.

Cabin between a field and the woods
This cabin, made by the owner and her brothers, is so beautiful; it feels generous inside, with a well equipped kitchen, a wood-burning stove which looks gorgeous (we did not try it) and a fabulous screened porch (crucial because there were a lot of mosquitos.) We only stayed a couple of nights, but it's a place I could stay for a week or more easily! Barbara was very quick to answer questions, and explicit with helpful hints.

Perfect “off-grid” cabin
The Cabin is really sweet and spacious. We definitely appreciated the roomy kitchen and screened in porch. It got down to the 50s both night we stayed, but we had a fire in the wood stove for a few hours and it was very comfortable. The cabin is still being finished, but it felt very clean. Despite the unbelievable number of mosquitoes outside, there were no bugs of any kind in the cabin. We rented the canoe, and had so much fun rolling it down to the pond. We also brought our kayaks . The put-in was really easy and very close, and the stream and pond were beautiful and big enough to keep our adventure feeling going. We were also able to meet the ponies and ducks, which my children loved. Barbara is a lovely person and host, we appreciated her suggestions and support. Outdoor shower and outhouse were new and well kept, very comfortable. There is one bedroom, with a super comfy bed. In the loft are a mattress and a futon on the floor. It was perfect for the kids and their packs- you can’t stand up in the loft so they used it for sleeping and reading. The third sleeping space is a futon in the main room (kitchen/dining) We used it as a couch. The kitchen had quality everything we needed, and very pretty dishes. I love cooking on a wood stove, but the camp stove is super easy. I hadn’t used one before. Water was provided in manageable large containers and lasted us 2 days for drinking and washing dishes. We set up the solar panel, which was really fun and useful. We would def go back. We were close to many many fun things. The property itself was unremarkable. We didn’t spend any time outside the cabin. The mosquitoes were part of that, but there wasn’t really room to play. The field, I think, is growing. We had thought we would need to hike in, but the distance from the car to the house is maybe 50ft. Very close and convenient. We loved it- it was perfect for a first “off grid” experience for my kids, and for our Maine adventure.

This place is everything it says and more! Off grid in the sense that there is no running water or electricity, but with the comforts of candles, a rechargeable solar light, plenty of containers of potable water, and being close to town if you want to be.

Lovely accommodations for a small group. Plenty of candles and water. We arrived after dark - cabin was a little difficult to find on the first night. Feel this could be helped by placing a small light illuminating the house number from the road. Otherwise, amazing home base to explore mid-coast Maine.

Cozy cabin in the woods
Stayed at the cabin Memorial Day wknd w/ my 2 teenage kids and dog and a great time was had by all despite it being a chilly, wet wknd. Caabin was clean and cozy with a beautiful wood-burning stove and wonderful artwork done by Chris, Barbara and Chris were friendly and accomodating hosts, and there was plenty to do in the area. When the weather allowed we took walks in the woods, ventured out in the canoe, and had smores around the firepit; when the rain set in we drove into town for ice cream and antiquing and played games in the cozy cabin. Would definitely recommend!

Starry Eyed Stay
We chose a very cold weekend to visit but had a good time regardless. Very happy to stay here. Though we are looking forward to a wood stove next time... fingers crossed! Excellent dark sky for stargazing (one of the benefits of a cold night) and nice spot for canoeing with access to walking trails etc. Thanks for the getaway.

Spacious secluded cabin
Our experience at cabin was extremely pleasant and was better than I could have expected. The location of the cabin is spaced away enough to give you an off-the-grid like experience. The cabin itself is spacious but cozy. It gets a bit nippy at night so I would definitely recommend bringing a down comforter for the autumn. On top of it, Barb and Chris offer a canoe rental. I would definitely recommend the experience if you’re checking out the near by lakes. Also, be sure to listen to Barb and Chris’s local recommendations. I will definitely be back!
