There is access to white water rafting, guided fishing, and fishing lessons. There are at least 5 hot springs within 60 miles of Twin Bridges Campground. Salida is considered the white-water rafting capitol of the US by some and has a whitewater park and surfing wave. Salida area is also home to a ton of hiking (14'ers anyone?) and mountain biking trails. The Royal Gorge is a quick 30 minute drive with restaurants and other fun near Canon City. The Sand Dunes are 90 minutes and Monarch Ski Area is 45, we have some of the best bird watching! Warbling Vireo, Western Wood-peewee, Cassin's Kingbird to name a few.

If you have purchased wood and there are restrictions/bans, we will gladly apply your wood purchase the rental of a propane pit. Propane fire pit usage may also be restricted by current conditions or state/county restrictions!
Fresh eggs are available for purchase (when the girls are cooperating) by the dozen, or half dozen (see "extras"). You are welcome to go "visit" the chickens. Their coop is next to the large blue shop/barn.

Camp Penguin at Wandering Penguin Ranch (facebook.com/CampPenguin) in southern Colorado is about a 3 hour drive from the Denver metro area, two hours from Colorado Springs and just under an hour north west of Canon City. We provide a variety of site options to choose from including tent sites, car/van/truck sites, and rustic trailer site options - all with NO amenities (NO electric/septic/water, etc). Additional vehicle parking on the property can be accommodated for groups with more than one vehicle. Please provide type of camper/tent and number of vehicles at booking so hosts can help direct you to the best site option available.
Guests can relax around our small pond or roam freely around our 35-acre property. There is both hiking and fishing at Badger Creek only a short drive away. Waugh Mountain State Trust Land is another hiking option and is also just a short drive up the road (*NOTE: the State of Colorado now requires a valid hunting/fishing license to access state trust lands)! Additionally, we are about 45-90 minutes away from a variety of alternative adventures! Some of these include Salida, Cripple Creek, Eleven Mile Reservoir, Paradise Cove Swimming Hole, Florissant Fossil Beds, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, Manitou Incline, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Cave of the Winds, Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience, several rafting/zipline and Jeep tour companies, Westcliffe, Bishop Castle and Canon City including Skyline Drive, Tunnel Drive, Royal Gorge Train, Museum of Colorado Prisons and The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey. Any of these can be done as a day trip or visited while on your way here, or home. (*NOTE: some of these attractions are free, some require a fee and some are seasonal. The San Luis valley offers, hiking, mountain biking, ATV trail, Horse back riding, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, rafting, refuges for wildlife watching.
New for 2024, The flushable toilet and shower are now operational. The shower house is located in the center of the loop with sites 1,2,3 on the south side of the building. It has an on demand water heater, there is also a a flushable toilet located in the same space. An important note about the toilet, Do Not flush anything other than toilet paper please. DO NOT flush feminine hygiene products, napkins or hand wipes or anything other than toilet paper. These type of things plug and burn up the pump while pumping out the tank. This will cause the toilet to be unusable.

You will be surrounded by BLM land, BACA land, and Wildlife Refuge just two miles away. Be sure to bring extra bug spray and protection needed against biting insects such as flies, gnats, and mosquitoes.
For those bringing your pets, they MUST be on a leash/lead at all times. While I do not have much cactus on my property, I do have an abundance of greasewood (Chico brush) which is very thorn-like if stepped on.

- Although we are only forty miles from the Sand Dunes park, it is a four hour drive to get there, so maybe not the best area to stay if the dunes are on your list.
- Days in the summer can get pretty hot and shade is hard to come by, so plan a day trip to Florence river park, (about 30 minutes drive)and hop in the Arkansas river and cool off.

I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again.
There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent.
There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. This place was so beautiful. A hidden gem I like to call it. The host was very kind and greeted us upon arriving with a nice welcome and map for us. So many different types of camping options here. We walked by all of them and they were all well kept and overlooked the river. We didn’t want to leave.

It was such a beautiful spot next to the river. I love sleeping next to the sound of the babbling waters. There was also a fantastic log pile divider between our campsite and the next. This offered a fantastic amount of privacy. I would recommend this spot to anyone!

I would like to recommend Dan's land considering I booked and looked forward to camping MTNMN Ranch based on HICAMP options. Sadly, I was unable to reach the site to stay.
I have been talking to friends about me finding Dan to be a remarkable person with communicating, he is understanding and I can't wait to be able to rebook. Plus, I can't wait for friends who plan to visit CO opt to stay and share their experience with me.

Salida RV is such a gem. We love this place so much, we're coming back for a month (or more) in the summer. We stayed in a spot right on the river, and it was so peaceful listening to the sound of the Arkansas River. The sites and clubhouse are super clean, and the park was very quiet.

Peaceful slice of heaven with accommodating and welcoming hosts. Amazing communication, flexible check in/out and escorted me right to the camp location. Mary Anne's muffins are out of this world delicious and the size of my head! If I'm in the area again, I will definitely stay with these hosts again and would highly recommend anyone to pay them a visit. It was exactly what I needed to start my 2026 camping season off. Thank you both :-)

It’s a beautiful place. Clean and well maintained by the wonderful people who own it. Listening to the river and geese was relaxing. Yes, the road is near and you hear the cars and trucks but it’s in a river canyon so we just ignored that and enjoyed ourselves. Good places to eat nearby (check out the MUG) and a good base camp location for anything in or around Colorado Springs.
10/10 will return.

What a beautiful spot along the Arkansas River! I stayed over a winter holiday week, so it was pretty quiet but the views were amazing. The hosts were very hospitable and the bathrooms were clean. Getting to walk along the railroad onto BLM land was an added bonus. I would definitely stay again.

The campsite was perfect for our one night stay near Crestone. Our host was super easy to communicate with and even made some really helpful local suggestions in the area to visit. I would definitely recommend booking here. I look forward to another trip in the spring.
