4 nights at Red Tail Ranch at Yosemite

I tent camped at Red Tail Ranch and had an absolutely wonderful time. It’s an obviously perfect jump off location for Yosemite National Park. I stayed at Pine Siskin which was level and had some nearby trees. It’s a short trip to the kitchen and garbage drop off. The kitchen has a great commercial sink and will keep you out of the rain and bugs while cooking. There’s a stainless steel prep table which I used plenty. By the way, no need to bring plastic water bottles filled with “purified spring water.” The water here is tasty and cold. The outdoor showers have plenty of hot water and are wonderful after a long day of exploring the park. Flush toilets are great and facilities are very clean. This is barely roughing it, even in a tent. The property is 90 acres of Sierra Foothills beauty and Robb is a fantastic and knowledgeable host. I will definitely stay here again, and I encourage you do the same!

We had the absolute best time here! The hosts were wonderful and the views were amazing! Super close to Yosemite and we felt very safe. Would highly recommend staying here!

Weekend Trip to Gold Wall Ranch & Vineyard

We were lucky to be the only campers on Michele’s property, so we got to enjoy the whole campsite to ourselves. Campsite 1 has more shade and trees, campsite 2 is more open. The campsites are pretty close to each other and especially with the shared communal areas I can imagine you’d run into the other parties quite frequently. The bathroom and shower were a really nice touch and made camping so comfortable. There’s one bathroom that contains the toilet and shower. Communal kitchen area was also useful. It includes picnic tables, a propane grill, and well water (no sink). Both campsites are right by the communal area, though each campsite has its own picnic table as well. The views were the best part and if you walk out a bit there is a view spot where you can sit and enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. Amazing during sunset! Overall we had a nice time and the hosts were very welcoming and responsive.

Weekend Trip to Sierra Circles Sculpture Garden

Beautiful and special! Enjoyed meeting the camp host, Michael, and it was really nice to be shown around and given a lay of the land. Nice sunsets in the garden with wildflowers. Pottery studio was impressive, and wine tasting on site in a dreamy nook. Sculptures and art tucked away on each site and grounds, made for whimsy and were tastefully placed. Working farm/art installations, great imagination at work! We stayed at site 4/teepee 2 (at the end of the sites on right) — felt roomy, clean, and nicely shaded. (We were there on a late May weekend, but concerts on summer weekends definitely sounded intriguing, and we would love to return!)

If you want to get off the beaten path to some peaceful, quiet serenity, then this is the place for you. Great site with amenities close by. Walking trails along the meadow and only an hour from Yosemite Valley. A hidden gem.

We loved everything about this stay. We were two and two dogs in a 21’ camper van and stayed in #4 with a view of the waterfall. Having walked around the camp we would have been happy in any of the sites. The host greeted us upon bathrooms and was welcoming. The showers are spacious and spectacular. It’s close to the park but far enough out to get a more private camping experience. This is at the top of our list and we hope to return.

Weekend Trip to Nolla A-Frames Near Yosemite

Such a cozy modern basic glamping cabin, exactly as expected. * Super clean and new * Gorgeous east facing views (sunrise!) * Quiet aside from the river nearby — far enough from the main road that you don’t hear traffic * Close to west Yosemite NP boarder, under an hour drive to the Yosemite Valley loop roads. * Directions were helpful, including the details once I turned off the main road. * RAV4 SUV rental made it up the dirt road easily. * Cabin 3 is close to Cabin 2, but angled in such a way that both have privacy unless someone is going wayyyy out of their way to be a creeper and stand in front of the other cabin’s large window (ew, who would?) * For AT&T cell service, expect zero bars — occasionally one bar outside in certain spots briefly. So solid location to disconnect with tech and relax. * Short drive to nearby small town (Groveland?) with some basic restaurants, gas station, etc

Liza and Tom’s place is a true glamping experience close to the beautiful Yosemite. The stay was truly unique with modern style A frame. We loved every second of our time here! The glass wall is a perfect touch that allows you to stargaze in comfort at night time. The property was just the right amount of secluded and private. A huge plus for having a private bathroom and even showers at their sister property. Book this property, you won’t regret it.

5 nights at Red Tail Ranch at Yosemite

Site was gorgeous, hookups were some of the best we’ve had (how they were situated). We overlooked the gorgeous natural area and watched the sun set over it each night. Top-notch facilities including very, very clean real working toilets, outdoor showers and more facilities. Great Hipcamp signage! Other items of note - we ate at Tangled Hearts Cafe and highly recommend it for any meal - great fresh, local food. In addition to enjoying Yosemite, we walked one of the paths in the nearby Stanislaus National Forest which allows leashed dogs on trail and loved it. We were really able to relax and enjoy Robb’s property! He is a fantastic, responsive and very knowledgeable host who knows Yosemite intimately! We are already trying to figure out how to come back….

Excellent area. Wonderful location with a very scenic view of the river. Barry and his family have thought about everything. They have grills, chairs, electric hookups, extensions, kayaks, boats - you name it and they have it. Only extras you pay for are firewood and ice. The restrooms are super clean, smells really good. Barry and his wife stopped by to greet us and they were extremely cordial. Me and my family had a great time.

1 night at Nolla A-Frames Near Yosemite

I loved staying in the A-frames near Yosemite. Such an easy stay & check in and absolutely spectacular views from inside and outside the hut. The perfect in between for someone who doesn’t want to / doesn’t have the supplies to tent camp but still wants the nature experience. It was truly incredible to fall asleep whilst looking up at the starry night sky. 1000/10 recommend & hoping I make it back soon!

We book kinda last minute (the day before) and it was a great pick! The owner is ñ nice and kind, was very helpful. The place is beautiful and has everything that was offer. Water, wood, toilets, table, chair, boats… There is a lot of animals and it can get noise at any time. We had a very relax weekend, and we will definitely will do it again. We got to pet some animals a little hike, mornings by the pond. The 4 yo had a blast (it was a surprise for her)!! The husband got some bad allergies but even he enjoy the farm.

Super sweet and interesting place. We appreciated the art installations, open spaces, and history. Extra points for being dog friendly! Everyone was nice and helpful…and there was an air of freedom that’s missing from most state and national park campgrounds. Take a hike on one of the many trails winding through the Stanislaus National Forest at the base of the Sierra Nevada mountains, or cast a line in the North Fork of the Tuolumne River or Basin Creek for some great native fishing. After a long day of exploration, come back to the campgrounds and relax by the firepit or enjoy a picnic in one of our many picnic areas. Activities in the campground include horseshoes, sand volleyball, sandbox for the kiddos and frisbee golf for all. We pride ourselves on blending nature and family camping in a safe, serene environment. We have one bathhouse with flushing toilets and heated showers; additional portables and vault toilets are located throughout the campground for convenience. Important notes: We are off-grid. There is no electricity in the campground with exception of a small solar powered system to operate our entry gate, guest Wi-Fi and intercom. Outlets are not available for guest use. All water is labeled non-potable. Guests may purify/filter at their discretion. Our campground is home to wildlife. You can minimize unwanted encounters by properly storing food and garbage. We have one central bathhouse with 3 flushing toilets. Sites vary in distance from a short walk to a short drive. The bathhouse has 4 shower stalls in the rear of the building. The bathhouse is closed from 10pm to 8am. The bathhouse does not have electricity or interior lighting. Our Hacienda section ("H" Sites) has vault toilets. Portables are located throughout the campground for your convenience. There is minimal privacy from other campers due to the placement of the sites and the way our trees and vegetation is trimmed for fire resistance. All guests and vehicles must be registered upon arrival.

Car and RV campers are welcomed and there is plenty of car/RV parking on the asphalt lot outside the fence at the East Side of the property near the mailboxes at the intersection of Rte 4 and Brice Station Road.

Until over a hundred years later, In 1976 when our founder fell in love with this remote property and purchased the land and we began rebuilding the I-Bar camp from the ground up and opened it to our members. It didn't hurt that somewhere close by Our founder found a 800oz pocket of gold. Even today, Prospecting for gold is encouraged! If you want to try your hand at “Gettin on some of the shiny” let the Caretakers know! We have a few gold pans we loan out that are just waiting for some color to make you smile. It's space to find your peace of mind and pitch a tent or hammock, as you would when hiking the backcountry. Aside from complimentary ice water, potty, shower, soaps, sanitizer, sunscreen, first aid, communal fire pit, wood stove and dishwashing area) this is not "glamping". If you are a person who appreciates nature and making due with what the land has provided, then we are a great fit. Guests have 20 acres to find a secluded, or socially distanced spot to pitch camp. This is for people that know how to camp in the backcountry - Without a trash can, who don’t leave cigarette butts, respect the land and would rather not be sectioned off. Flat areas are all over if you explore, and use your feet to brush aside rocks and twigs, to lay down a tent base, as we do every time we camp in the backcountry. The geography of these mountains is just that, hills and mountains. The vista at the top of the property is gorgeous and easily camps 5 tents spaced out. The property does offer many other great camping areas, and I’m more than happy to point them out. Yosemite is 30 minutes away, Don Pedro lake is 30 minutes, Cherry Lake is 30 minutes, Preston falls and Carlon falls are both 30 min away. Downtown Groveland Is 7 minutes away, and other historic towns are not too far. Close to many swimming holes. Rainbow pools is 15 minutes away. 10 min from the local grocery store and other local shops. Base Camp is just off of highway 120. Originally constructed in 1923 by the Turlock and Modesto irrigation districts, the original Don Pedro Dam had a storage capacity of just 289,000 acre-feet, which proved insufficient for the irrigation demands of a single growing season. In response to several dry winters, the districts opted to build a larger dam to ensure adequate water storage for multiple dry years. In collaboration with the City and County of San Francisco, the irrigation districts embarked on what was then referred to as the New Don Pedro Project. The term "New" was eventually dropped after the original dam was submerged by the expanded reservoir. Today, the site is simply known as the Don Pedro Reservoir, Don Pedro Lake, or Lake Don Pedro. San Francisco's financial investment in the project allowed the city to relieve itself of upstream flood control responsibilities on the Tuolumne River while gaining increased operational flexibility. Through a sophisticated banking and accounting system, San Francisco can pre-release water into Don Pedro, which then becomes the property of the irrigation districts.
