Weekend Trip to Wackalulu's Wonderland

We booked this place for a long weekend getaway and the experience was beyond our expectations! Lynda and Rich put their hearts and souls into creating this beautiful paradise! We loved everything: the boathouse decorations, sitting by the fire pit and enjoying the tranquility of the surroundings. Looking forward to coming back! Till next time :)

Truly the best campsite ever! To be so close to the ocean was unbelievable. Small site but totally worked for us. So happy the landowners share their wonderful property with all of us. We will definitely be back!! Only disappointment was the portable toilet. It was dirty and needed to be emptied.

2 nights at Timber Cove Campground

Bluff 10: the site is very beginner friendly. Bluff10 has a water faucet, patio deck with picnic table, fire pit, and close to the bathroom(don’t worry it doesn’t smell). It contains a great view of the ocean, cliff side, the fog rolling in, and my favorite part is the clear sky full of stars at night. Regular functioning toilet and sink available and showers are $2 for 4 minutes(payment in quarters only). You can exchange for quarters with the host. I recommend exchanging enough quarters for your whole stay since you don’t know when the host will be available. The light to the shower room is broken in the women’s side so bring a flashlight if showering at night. The site floor is made of compact dirt and wood chips, I recommend clearing out the wood chips before you set up your tent so it makes for a smoother surface when you sleep. At night you may be payed a visit by some neighboring raccoons but they are harmless, just keep your food stored safely. The racoon only appeared the first night, probably just curious. This site is right by the cliff so if you have a fear of heights, this is not the site for you. If you are sensitive to noise, bring earplugs when sleeping, the waves are a bit loud at night. Overall this is a great site, beginner friendly, hike within walking distant, and also another hike one mile north from the campsite.

We stayed on the bluff overlooking the river and it was so beautiful. Definitely loved the hammock that was provided. The river access to the island was a bit treacherous with the current, so make sure to bring water shoes!

The south side sea site was so beautiful! Brenda was extremely accommodating and friendly, very helpful! She directed us up to the Timber cove lodge which is within walking distance and dog friendly. Site #7 was huge! We felt as if we were camping on our own. Bathrooms were brand new and cleaned often. Great location for exploring that area of the coast with Ft. Bragg minutes away. Only negative was having to take our own trash home as there is no garbage services at the campground. We will definitely go again!

Lovely place to camp close to San Francisco. The campsite is tucked away in a little valley by a creek and is shielded from coastal winds. The land has plenty of trails to explore and the farm store has lots of produce to purchase. Would definitely stay again

Hidden gem!! Best place to have a river float day. And the island across the way was the perfect place to sun bathe. Everything you need to have the perfect camping experience was provided (bbq, fire pit, chairs, awning, etc). The bathroom was clean and running water was accessible all around. Didn’t feel comfortable using the tent provided so I reccomend brining your own!

We had a wonderful stay at Joelle’s hipcamp! The view from our campsite overlooking the river was beautiful, and Joelle went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great! She provided a canopy with a privacy screen which kept our little spot separate when another group arrived, had a grill and fire pit for each campsite, and had firewood for sale on the property. We had the perfect day tubing down the Russian River, putting in directly from the property! Would definitely come back and highly recommend. Thanks Joelle!

This is a super special campground. It's set back in a blissfully quiet mixed woods and pasture ranch. The camp sites are spaced out generously. All have views of meadows and trees. I saw deer and heard bird song every morning. Each site has a table, a fire ring with a grill, and log sections that provide seating or tables for gear or water. There are nature trails connecting to the state park and the riparian zone by the stream that flows to Jug Handle State Beach. The owners of the farm are also reintroduced native trees and taking out non-native pines, making for better wildlife habitat.

This is a super special place. The campground is set back in a wooded are with gorgeous meadows and wildflowers and hiking paths. The campsites are big and tidy and have lots of lovely touches, like log barriers and log sections that be seats and tables. The bathrooms are super clean and there is plenty of space and privacy. The owners of the Jug Handle Farm appear to be seriously committed to the environment, with natove pine forest restoration projects and nature trails connecting to state park lands.

Timber Cove Campground

Located right off coastal US highway 1, Timber Cove campground sits right at the edge of breathtaking, oceanside cliffs. We are situated on roughly two acres of land, with multiple campsites for tent/car camping or RV’s. Each bluff campsite has a picnic table, fire pit and water. Electricity is available to use for an extra fee. The beach and waterfall campsites do not have picnic tables so you might want to bring one if you’ve booked there. We have separate men’s and women’s flush bathrooms, with coin-operated hot showers. We have firewood with kindling for sale on site, payable with cash or Venmo. Please take note of local fire bans, when in effect. Dog friendly, though be advised a leash is recommended as we are close to the road, but they can run leash-free down at the beach. We are located 30 minutes north of the town of Jenner, with Gualala 30 minutes to the north. Gualala has grocery stores, a post office, and some shops. Fort Ross Store is located one mile down the road, just before Timber Cove, and sells basic food necessities, drinks, sandwiches, ice and gas. Internet cell service can be spotty in our area, depending on your provider, so bring your own Starlink services if you have them. We also have access to the beach below, and offer beach camping as well. Take note that the road down to the beach is steep with uneven terrain. The weather can vary quickly here, so be sure to bring multiple layers of clothing and camp gear for various types of weather, and headlamps are useful for getting around the property at night! Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. You can take a gorgeous coastal drive to Bodega that is only 15 miles away. Historic Fort Ross is another beautiful 20 mile coastal drive. Bike Enthusiast love the back roads out here and the Biggest Attraction Is… Wait for it…. Wineries are everywhere! During the summer there are several Music Venues close by too. The Rio Nido Roadhouse has outdoor music on the weekends. Rockin the River is every other Thursday in Guerneville. The Monte Rio Variety Show just celebrated it 111th year to a sold-out crowd. Barely 7 minutes away is downtown Gualala, with amenities such as 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, bakery, restaurants and more. There is a beautiful holistic gift store, The Sea Trader, Four Eyed Frog Bookstore, and some lovely art galleries in town. Kayaking is available at the Gualala River. Hiking at Gualala Regional Park, the Bluff Trail, The Sea Ranch public access beaches, Stump Beach, Salt Point Park with a petrified forest, Bowling Ball Beach with its amazing natural formations (can only be seen fully at low tide of more than -0.2m), Manchester State Beach, Elk Beach, and more. Swimming at the Navarro River, and various bays. It is a place of incredible scenic beauty all along CA 1. Watch whales spouting during whale season. (Gray whales and orcas is December to May. For humpbacks, visit May through November, and for blue whales, the largest animal on Earth, plan your stay between July and October). Bower Park, just 0.5 miles away with a lovely lake, tennis courts, a baseball field, a basketball court, and two separate playgrounds. Play disc golf or hike along the nature trail/fitness course. Anchor Bay is 5 miles up CA 1, with a supermarket, a few cafes, restaurants (including a great Thai place!) laundromat, hair salon, and more. The quaint town of Point Arena is 12 miles north, with a supermarket, Frannie's Cup And Saucer, The Bird Cafe, a beautiful historic lighthouse, a theater, a pier, a mini-safari park (B Bryan Preserve with zebras, giraffes and more. Tours need to be booked in advance). Also visit Roots, a natural pharmacy for herbs, teas and supplements. There are also spots like Occidental, Bodega Bay, Jenner (with the Russian River to kayak and swim) and Timber Cove, all on the way to Gualala from the south. Bodega Bay has lovely spots to eat, with clam chowder, fish and chips. Enjoy wind and water sports, and walk on the pier.

Learn more about this land: The site is in a forested area with short pine and manzanita trees, so its nice and sunny, just out of the daily fog zone that blankets the coast, but only 3 miles from the coast. The neighborhood is super quiet and you can walk right from here to the Pygmy State Park trail system or just on the gravel neighborhood road. There is a main tent site and another tent site and places for 2 cars or more or a small travel trailer or van (20' length ok). There's a place for at least 2-3 tents and there is a table with 3 chairs provided. Also a metal box to keep your food away from bears that might come by (haven't had that happen yet). No campfires please but propane/gas cook stoves are fine. 50 gallons of potable water is provided from a tank. Please conserve water. Keep all food in your vehicle as there are bears and forest critters around. Outhouse with new, clean composting toilet, environmentally friendly! There has been an ornery squirrel that keeps ripping up the toilet paper so please bring your own. Use this lat/long as Google Maps doesn't like my address- 39.2581451131371, -123.723920996094. Brief directions- coming from the coast on Little River Airport Rd, turn right on "Posted Rd. 18/Sundew Lane" sign, stay right at the fork, first driveway on the right (funky oval painted sign as pictured).
