This rugged stretch of California coast has sweet views and plenty to do. There are rocky promontories, coastal forests, and kelp-dotted beaches to explore.
The dramatic cliffs here are sandstone that has been eroded and shaped by the sea. You might see cave-like features called tafoni. Tafoni is formed when the ocean deposits salt on the sandstone. The salt interacts with the sandstone, hardening parts of it and forming the signature honeycomb features. It also gives this park its name.
All these features make Salt Point a great place for climbing. Where else can you lead an overhanging roof while looking out over the Pacific? Make sure you check the tide tables, some routes are underwater at low tide!There is also plenty of hiking in the area. Trails wind through Douglas Fir and Coastal Redwood forests before spitting you out on rocky beaches. If it’s been raining, hike the Bluff Trail to find a hidden waterfall that spills directly into the ocean.
Camping can be had at the nearby Gerstle Cove and Woodside Campgrounds. Spots here fill up fast and need to be reserved ahead of time. If they are booked up, we’ve got you covered. Hit up Hipcamp for other accommodations.

Beautiful ocean-view property all to yourself, just one street up from Highway 1. There's an ocean view and plenty of trees. This stunning spot has a clearing large enough for three tents or two vans.
I love falling asleep here to the sound of the ocean, the rain, or the wind in the trees. There are even a few redwoods on the property, with more on the adjacent property (though there are no paths or flat areas for walking). Enjoy your morning coffee in the fresh air, or relax with a drink while watching the sun set over the ocean. I bought this gorgeous spot to enjoy these simple pleasures, and I look forward to sharing it with you!
This property is in Gualala, in the "banana belt" of Highway 1. There are no guarantees because it's the Pacific, but this area is often where the fog burns off first and rolls in last. Cook's dog-friendly beach is about a 15-minute walk away, and the delicious food and drinks at Saint Orres are also about a 15-minute walk from the property.* It's a 5-minute drive to town for groceries, restaurants, and a pretty great bookstore.
The driveway is steep and won't accommodate a large trailer. Trailers should have high-profile tires. If you're wondering whether your trailer will fit, send me a photo, and I'll let you know. I've had no issues with a low-profile car, and no one has ever had a problem with a van. There is one fairly narrow section, so trailers longer than 22 feet won't work.
Because this property is in a residential area, you'll need to pack out everything. No digging a hole, sorry. Wag bags, buckets, or your own blackwater containment system are required. Doing otherwise could put my property at risk, so please don't be that person.
Wildlife! Ravens, turkeys, deer—oh my! And yes, there are also occasional black bear and mountain lion sightings. I've never had an issue, but it's important to be aware of your surroundings.
*If I'm in town, I'll show you how to use the easement for a shortcut to Cook's Beach. I sometimes stay in a trailer on the property, but you'll know this before your booking is confirmed.

Barely 7 minutes away is downtown Gualala, with amenities such as 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, bakery, restaurants and more. There is a beautiful holistic gift store, The Sea Trader, Four Eyed Frog Bookstore, and some lovely art galleries in town. Kayaking is available at the Gualala River. Hiking at Gualala Regional Park, the Bluff Trail, The Sea Ranch public access beaches, Stump Beach, Salt Point Park with a petrified forest, Bowling Ball Beach with its amazing natural formations (can only be seen fully at low tide of more than -0.2m), Manchester State Beach, Elk Beach, and more. Swimming at the Navarro River, and various bays. It is a place of incredible scenic beauty all along CA 1. Watch whales spouting during whale season. (Gray whales and orcas is December to May. For humpbacks, visit May through November, and for blue whales, the largest animal on Earth, plan your stay between July and October). Bower Park, just 0.5 miles away with a lovely lake, tennis courts, a baseball field, a basketball court, and two separate playgrounds. Play disc golf or hike along the nature trail/fitness course. Anchor Bay is 5 miles up CA 1, with a supermarket, a few cafes, restaurants (including a great Thai place!) laundromat, hair salon, and more. The quaint town of Point Arena is 12 miles north, with a supermarket, Frannie's Cup And Saucer, The Bird Cafe, a beautiful historic lighthouse, a theater, a pier, a mini-safari park (B Bryan Preserve with zebras, giraffes and more. Tours need to be booked in advance). Also visit Roots, a natural pharmacy for herbs, teas and supplements.
There are also spots like Occidental, Bodega Bay, Jenner (with the Russian River to kayak and swim) and Timber Cove, all on the way to Gualala from the south. Bodega Bay has lovely spots to eat, with clam chowder, fish and chips. Enjoy wind and water sports, and walk on the pier.

Hello and welcome to The Deck on Albion Ridge!
A Bit About Us and The Deck Site:
Albion and the surrounding areas are the original home of the Pomo peoples Northern California and we honor their stewardship of this land for millennia before us. This property sits just above the Salmon Creek watershed which is home to coho salmon and steelhead, northern spotted owls, bears, dear, mountain lions, pileated woodpeckers, along with thousands of other species big and small, and so we feel it is our duty to uphold that stewardship of this land for future generations.
We were both born and raised on the Mendocino Coast, and are now raising our two young children here. We have been developing and preserving the natural beauty of our coastal Redwood property here in Albion for the past 13 years. One of the first things we built on this property was a 2,000 sq ft deck that cantilevers over the hillside with a view of the Redwood ridges and Eastern sunrises beyond, all with wood milled from the property. Our vision for this deck was to host our family and friends and bring people together in this gorgeous outdoor setting. We have had many a birthday party, movie nights, baby showers, as well as a couple weddings and yoga retreats at this site, and now you can too!
We can't wait to share the beauty and tranquility of this campsite with you!
What We Offer:
Camp next to, and make use of, our large Redwood deck with sweeping ridge top views. The base rate for this site includes up to four people, there is an extra charge of $25 per day, per person, for any extra people. We allow up to 16 campers total but if you're looking to have more please message us and we can talk details.
Campers can set up tents just off the deck, OR for an extra fee (see Extras), you can rent our new addition of The Cozy Container, for the people that want to be in nature but don't quite want the fuss of pitching a tent. This sleeping container, not to be confused with the shipping container connected to the deck that houses the bathroom and kitchenette, houses a full size bed as well as a fold out futon and sleep 3-4 people comfortably. When booking the Cozy Container we will make up the full size bed with pillows, sheets and down comforter, however if you would like to also use the futon, we ask that you bring your own bedding for that. NOTE: We have two converted shipping containers at the site. The Cozy Container for sleeping in is away from The Deck slightly and to the left. The container attached to The Deck to the right, houses the kitchenette, bathroom, and shower around back. The use of this container is included in the basic site fee.
We also allow trailers and small RVs, we just ask that during the wet Winter months, you park in our gravel parking spaces. Connected to The Deck we have another 30 ft shipping container converted into a kitchenette and bathroom with toilet and running water. Behind that you'll find an enclosed shower with hot and cold water. We also have a grill, propane heater, cooler and a cornhole set available to rent (see Extras).
There is plenty of space to set up multiple tents so this is the perfect spot to wrangle all those friends or family you’ve been missing and enjoy some quality time together in nature.
The Area:
The village of Albion has a well equipped grocery store and deli, as well as a hardware store and post office. There IS gas if you are in a pinch, but we recommend filling up long before you get to the coast, or making the drive up to Fort Bragg for gas. You will also find EV charging stations in Fort Bragg at the Boatyard Shopping center.
Drive just 20 minutes North to the village of Mendocino where you'll find plenty of shops and restaurants as well as access to hiking, biking, kayaking, surfing and bird and whale watching. Please don't hesitate to ask us for recommendations for all things to eat, see and do while you're here. We love to share the beauty of the area with our guests!
Dogs:
We live on the property as a family of four with two young children and two friendly dogs. Our dogs Olive and Blue may greet you when you arrive, and might bark at your car, but rest assured they are friendly and when you get out of your car, call their names and they should come begging for pets. If you're not into dogs, that's totally fine. You can always text us and we will do our best to keep them home.
Tenants/Neighbors:
We do have one tenant on the property whose rental shares a road with The Deck site so you may see them coming and going, but there is no line of site from their rental to The Deck site. However, being that they are somewhat close we ask that campers be mindful of noise in the evenings and we ask that all amplified music be turned off between the hours of 10pm-7am.
Should you have any questions or need any help during your stay, we are just a short walk away and happy to help. We love sharing the beauty of our land and all that the Mendocino Coast has to offer so don't hesitate to ask for our recommendations on all things Mendocino!
Trash and Clean Up Expectations:
We provide dish ware, glasses, utensils and some other odds and ends, in hopes that our guests will use less single use plastics and cut down on waste. However, we know there is always some level of trash that comes along with camping therefore, we provide trash bags and labeled trash and recycling bins, but we ask that our guests bring their trash with them when they leave. *If for some reason this is not possible, we can remove the trash for you for a fee of $15/bag, but you must message us prior to your departure and let us know that your are unable to take the trash with you. Otherwise we provide the operating hours of the solid waste disposal site (located just down the road) in our guest book in the kitchen container.

Raven Haven 2 is smaller and closer to my home, but still very private and quiet with more Foxes and Ravens. Great for tents, vans, and smaller RVs. Beautiful, instantly warming, fire safe propane fire pit provided for heat. Wood fire pit also available when it is safe. You must be self contained. Haul it in , haul it out, please. Water and electricity available. Many forest animals and Ravens living on the property. Your well behaved dog will not require a leash at Raven Haven 1. Sorry, due to the tiny goldfish pond, no dogs at Raven Haven 2, small well behaved dogs on leash is a possibility. Really great for campers wanting to relax in the Redwoods, not so great for loud partying. These are not party camps. It is in the forest so the mostly Redwood canopy provides some protection from the weather. Close to many beaches and parks. Albion is 7 miles south of Mendocino and 15 moles south of Fort Bragg.

We have two young children and two Lab mix dogs. You may see us walking along the driveway. Please drive slowly. We share this space with our neighbors, children, and pets. We also ask that campers be mindful of noise in the evenings and respect our rule of all amplified music being off between the hours of 10pm-8am.
The water on our property comes from our well. Please be respectful of the drought conditions in our area and conserve water in any way possible.

Perfect pull-in pull-out spot. 7min. from the Main Street of the town. Simple, gravel lot, gets the job done. Beautiful area! Don’t have to worry about finding a site while visiting the coast- most of the parks get full fast! Host was excellent and responsive! Would stop there again for a true camping experience.

Don’t sleep on this location (actually DO sleep at this location!) if you like a place all or mostly to yourself, have brought your own drinking water, and want to relax in the peace and quiet surrounded by trees.
We couldn’t find a campground with any availability as we tend to plan last minute trips. I tried Hipcamp for the first time and found this! Literally the only thing available. At first, it felt like a bit of a loss, to be honest, but once we got there … holy crap, THIS is actually what we needed and wanted! Solitude. Beauty.
Partner and I put a beach blanket in the grass and took a nap. He NEVER relaxes that much!
There is a trail where we saw a bobcat(?) and deer. Dogs had a blast at the site as well!
Directions as listed are pretty confusing, and if you put the farm name into Google Maps, it won’t get you there either. Better directions: just barely north of the hanging bathtub. Located on the west side of Hwy 1, look for the log fence painted white, with a white and blue post on either side of the gate. Once inside the gate, hang a left on the path between the traffic cones. Once you see the camp site numbers, find yours, settle in, relax!

If we come back I’d ask for one of the sites on the east side so that we can better shelter from the wind.

We had a nice July 4th two night stay at 3G with our dog. The host, Chris, was very inviting. She drove us to our spot and reviewed everything with us. Even answered my texts during our stay. The land is really nice. Great small walks to the meadow for some wide open space. They have an outhouse, a sink to wash dishes and pottable water. Since it was July 4th weekend it was busy but I can imagine on a non holiday weekend it’s super chill. Beware though that campsites are close to one another so if you are looking for a very quiet space this might not be for you. It really all depends on who your neighbors are. On one side we had quiet neighbors and on our left we had a family of 8 that were very loud. That was a bummer for us but overall we had a great experience and it’s expected during busy times. We will come back!

We had such a wonderful experience in our RV at Hubcap Ranch. We were met upon arrival and directed to our site - our Freelander (26') fit comfortably without having to back in - complete with a beautiful deck right under a canopy of redwoods. The site was clean, had great amenities (like a propane fire pit and with propane hooked up, deck chairs, a table, Starlink wifi, etc). We camped here over the 4th of July weekend and had easy access to Mendocino's parade and the World's Largest Salmon BBQ in Fort Bragg. There is no reception but strong internet...but most of all there is peace and quiet. My anxious dogs were very thankful to not hear or see a single firework! Our niece loved saying hi to the chickens and "oodle do" (rooster). The creek was nice to walk by, though be forewarned that the mosquitos are out and so are western black-legged ticks. Everything was just FANTASTIC.
Gravel pad, full hook-ups, cord and hose extensions ready, deck with mood lights and scenery with stream... and fast WiFi, perfect.
The host was waiting for us to explain everything with the site.
My 7 year old kid loved this place.
It was so relaxing and healing place.

We had a great stay! Beautiful property! We have two little ones, 5 and 3 and they loved it. It was all grass in May. Chris was lovely and welcoming. She let us choose which site when we arrived in our campervan. The porto potty was very clean and there was a sink to wash up too.

What a find! We loved staying at Joel and Pamela's property. They were flexible with our arrival time and shared good local tips on things to do. Our dogs were happy to run around the campsite, and our kids had fun exploring, seeing banana slugs, checking out the chickens, etc. Highly recommend and we'll definitely be coming back!

Raven’s Nest is a well-maintained clearing at the end of a short gravel road in a dense forest. We loved the quiet and privacy and the convenient access to town. Bill provided extra clear directions. He also took the time to tell us that arriving early and/or staying late would be fine since the site wasn’t booked the day before or after, which was a nice touch. We would definitely stay here again on a future trip to this area.

This is a working farm with private sites. The owners have added decks to each RV/travel trailer site, along with chairs, fun little windmills, table, and gas powered outdoor fireplace. There’s a beautiful working garden with fruit trees and a greenhouse (I’m not jealous). Gorgeous variety of friendly hens and roosters. The weather was mild yet perfect for sitting in the sun and relaxing. Redwoods all round us complete with meadows. The owners have overtook care to ensure our stay was the best it could be. So relaxing!

PRO:We appreciated the level/flat, quiet, and private spot and when taking our dog for a walk from the site we discovered a dirt road through the forest that led to “A Better Place Forest” a beautiful area of redwood trees and white oaks. It is a well managed forest for clients to bury the ashes of their loved ones. Benches for contemplation and small tree tags that discreetly identify the locations.
Con: Apple and Google Maps to the Ravens Nest campsite were misleading…
