The Forbes Island off-grid event venue and campground are at Bradford Island in the Sacramento River Delta. The floating barge is moored next to our private ranch, utilized for tent and RV camping for larger groups. We limit rentals to single groups for ultimate privacy in a natural setting. You and your guests enjoy the remote Sacramento River Delta wetlands while being only a short drive from the Bay Area. Guests have direct access to water sports and private docks.
*Note: Forbes Island requires passage via the Bradford Island car ferry (see schedule below), a personal watercraft, or a captained passenger ferry boat that must be booked in advance. Boat dock space is included.
History:
Forbes Thor Kiddoo came to San Francisco in 1959 after a stint in the Coast Guard. A carpenter and engineer, he developed a business constructing houseboats in Sausalito. Then, inspired by Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo and the movie version of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, Forbes Kiddoo built himself an underwater home, complete with portholes for watching the fish swim past, a diving hatch and a grand bedroom suite fit for a captain of his private world. In the ’90s, Forbes added a 40-foot lighthouse and a white picket fence.
Today, a small group of committed friends has preserved and kept Forbes Island afloat for community events, opening it for all to experience and enjoy. Your rental helps us to maintain this totally unique, fabulous find into the future.

Malaina was a great host, respected our privacy and wow both my boyfriend and I were significantly impressed with the hot tub. Cool area to explore, malaina recommended a hike that gave a beautiful view of Lake New Malones. The bed was a comfy and there was a gate we could close off our space with for optimal privacy/comfort for puppy off leash. Thanks for a great adventure!

Malaina’s space was magical and Malaina was a fantastic, attentive host. We arrived a bit late and Malaina had started a fire and heated up the cabin for our arrival. The hot tub was a fun touch, the instant hot water was great, and we loved the outdoor shower! Perfect spot for a romantic, private getaway with spectacular stargazing and waking up to the birds singing.

This spot was perfect, my fiancé and I stopped here on our way to Yosemite from San Francisco for a night to plug in and make sure our camper was ready for the weekend. It is just outside Yosemite’s border and about an hour and a half from Yosemite Valley.
Elyse’s spot was very quiet and on an amazing property shared with a airbnb and laundry/bathroom to use. We watched deer right on our porch in the morning and was a great place to start our trip, couldn’t recommend it more!

We absolutely love it there!! This was our second time and we plan on going back multiple times in the future. Malaina it is such an amazing host. She makes you feel right at home. It’s so comfortable there. The bed is super comfy and It’s so peaceful. The hot tub is amazing and the outdoor shower as well. We went in the winter and again in the summer and we will be back in the winter again. Definitely one of our favorite spots. We went Just one day and we feel so relaxed. Thank you Malaina!

This was our first time trying out Hip Camp and what a wonderful first time it was! We go camping to get some peace and quiet and that is exactly what we found here. Our camp host was very quick to answer all my questions. The electric water and sewer were all conveniently located. The laundry and bath room were very clean.
Pro Tips:
- There is no circuit breaker on the 30A service. Use care when plugging in and unplugging.
- On backing in, it is best to drive straight toward the trailer on the far left, then start backing around the drive into slot 1 (marked as Hip Camp). Takes a little effort to get backed in properly but it is very worth it once you are all set up.

Just a little above Sonora right off Highway 108, it sits on a lovely oak tree covered lot next to two other permanent RV homes. Quiet, bathroom is not too far. A nice tree swing and chairs to sit out. We enjoyed our stay. Wifi connection is at the bathroom but we were still mostly able to connect from within our RV.

We spent a long weekend at Malaina’s and loved every minute of it! We enjoyed the outdoor shower and hot tub, drinking tea by the fireplace, and waking up to birds chirping outside the cabin. We loved staying on Jamie's land! It was a wonderful get away that started with a cool ferry ride. He truly thought of everything with access to an out side grill, wood for buring, pots pans/ bowls and plates even extra toothpaste and tooth brushes which was needed b/c we forgot ours. So thanks Jamie! The lights at night were both practical and beautiful. It made the night feel like a "fairy land" as my daughter put it. It made it easy to locate the RV in the dark and trees / tables without needing a light. It was awesome! Thank you! We can't wait to plan another trip here!

Great private campsite, Jamie is awesome and responds very quick and is very accommodating to special requests. Took a boy scout troop there and had a great time canoeing, fishing, and even swimming. The RV is a nice extra, and is clean. Falling asleep to the sound of crickets and frogs was an added bonus. Well worth the effort to get there. This campsite was perfect for our troop adventure!

We had a very relaxing stay at the little cabin. The outdoor hot tub with the hot water was amazing, so relaxing! The bed was really comfortable and the bedding kept us snug and warm. Our host was great about checking to see if we had everything we needed and was very responsive but we never saw her as she gave us the privacy we were seeking. What a beautiful corner Malania has made. Me and my boyfriend had a great time! Very close to Sonora and amazing restaurants and fun bars :) Kitchen has everything you would need!
