No matter what direction you drive from this Central Valley town, you’ll find outdoor fun.
Modesto sits between San Francisco and Yosemite National Park, with access to highways leading in all directions and endless California adventures. Part of the Central Valley agricultural area, the city sits on the Tuolumne River as it flows down from Yosemite to its confluence with the San Joaquin River west of town. East and north of the city, Modesto Reservoir Regional Park and Woodward Reservoir Regional Park are favorite spots for swimming, fishing, water-skiing, and jet-skiing and have RV hookups and boat launches. RV parks and resorts can be found west of the city near the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge, as well as on the way to Yosemite along Highway 120. The weather in Modesto is hot and dry from late spring to early fall, with milder temperatures and some rain in the winter.
