The camp site was great. Plenty of room for everyone to camp in tents and camp vans. Three of us stayed in the cabin. The camp is very clean and the sink and water hose are very convenient. There is a nice shady spot at the pond to sit. We saw lots of different wild life. I would recommend this site for a nice relaxing time. Just keep in mind that there is a short steep grade to get to the site, it is key to not slow down or stop to get up the grade.

Absolutely great time at strange ranch! The property itself feels very private and relaxing with beautiful views and a great river to swim and explore. All the campsites we saw were very clean and well maintained. Terry does an amazing job communicating and really provided a lot of great information before we even arrived. We stayed at site #1 right above the river. You can expect great views, a picnic table, metal fire pit, wash basin with faucet, hose, portable toilet, and a short walk down the stairs to the river. Terry told us before arriving how sunny our site would be so we brought a 10x10 pop up canopy and we were good to go!

We loved our stay at The Range. Karina and Chris were gracious host who accommodated all of our needs. I highly recommend this location for anyone looking to escape the crowded campsites at the beach looking to enjoy some peace and quiet in nature.

We loved camping at the Painted Lakes! Jeremy and Michelle were great communicating before and during our stay making sure we had the best time on their property. The site has lots of space for setting up camp and relaxing among the trees and animals. Loved walking to the lake and kayaking. It is a quiet piece of paradise. Great setup with a gas grill, gas fire pit, and an outdoor couch on turf.

Great place to camp with the family. The swimming hole, hot water showers and grill were all a huge bonus. The couple who run the camp are very sweet and clearly love the land. Will definitely recommend to friends and family.

1 night at Ballard Walnut Grove

What a special campsite! We had an amazing time at Mike & Anne's walnut grove. The site was flat, there was a firepit stocked with wood, a lovely porch swing, and when it got dark, we got to enjoy the lights strung up around on the site. The walnuts are delicious too! If you visit, be sure to walk over to the winery next door for a tasting too - We brought a bottle back to the campsite to enjoy under the stars.

2 nights at Cuyama Badlands

Jim and June are wonderful hosts! Great place to camp to unwind and love the desert views and incredible stars at night! The spots are private even though there are other campers. There is a cute honor store in the barn that has ice, snores and more! We love staying here as a quick get away! Grab a burger at the buckhorn cafe on your way to song dog!

4 nights at Cosumnes River Ranch

Wow! Remote and beautiful. Extremely well maintained with the cleanest port a potties ever. What an enjoyable and relaxing experience falling asleep to the sound of the river. The sites are big and pretty distanced from each other there is cell service clearly marked a short distance away. Loved it!

Our family had a fabulous stay at the Olive Camp! The location was stellar - close to civilization but felt very remote! The camp was roomy, clean, quiet and private. The pond, potable water and sink were bonuses! Sam, the host, was communicative and accommodating. Will stay again and highly recommend!

Beautiful and remote! Directions were easy and clear, last 10ish miles are dirt roads, so slow going. Easy creek access from the campsites. Sites are well spaced so you don’t feel on top of the other sites. There was no cloud cover the nights I was there, so you could see the stars.

Firebird Ridge presents a fantastic secluded camp station in a beautiful semi-wild setting with huge open sky views over 50 miles of the Klamath River canyon and Siskiyou Crest. Just 10 minutes off the freeway, a variety of simple thoughtfully laid out sites afford comfy car and tent camping or smaller RVs and vans, with ample privacy. Small to medium size (5-15p) groups may combine sites and enjoy some shared space and amenities, please inquire. **04/25: entry road has 1 mile bumpy section awaiting maintenance** At an elevation just under 3000 feet, the Ridge gets lots of sun, with cold nights and hot days in winter and summer respectively. This is a drier climate between May and October, meaning some fire risk and potential smoke impacts in area forests, although the mountainside location generally offers clean fresh air with stunning sunsets and excellent stargazing. The land contains over a mile of scenic trails with rock features, gnarly old "bonsai" oak trees, native plants and wildflowers in a landscape undergoing restoration to healthy diverse fire resistant conditions. Wildlife abounds, mostly the friendly sort however visitors should be mindful to avoid unwelcome encounters, and any small children or pets kept under close watch. Your host can address questions or concerns. Count on fair to good cell service, wifi and power are centrally accessible too. Activity and development on site are minimized to enhance natural habitat and ambience. Guests are advised to minimize disturbance of other occupants and lifeforms. It's fine to have fun and make some intermittent noise but disruptive or damaging behavior will be curtailed. This extends to the neighborhood as well, especially on the road in/out where it's important to keep your speed (dust, noise etc) DOWN in the vicinity of houses. The property is not a park, playground, or big backyard, in fact probably not much like anyplace you've been...prepare for a novel experience! Come as a guest, not a customer, and find yourself at home in the wild. Youth visitors are welcome but must be supervised and receptive to guidelines. This location is not set up (yet) for people with mobility challenges, or people with no prior wilderness experience.

The Oak Show

We are Albion locals lucky enough to call the Oak Show home. We live on the other end of the Oak Show property, a distance providing ample privacy for guests. We have two young children and two Lab mix dogs. You may see us walking along the driveway. Please drive slowly. We share this space with our neighbors, children, and pets. We also ask that campers be mindful of noise in the evenings and respect our rule of all amplified music being off between the hours of 10pm-8am. The water on our property comes from our well. Please be respectful of the drought conditions in our area and conserve water in any way possible. The base rate for this site includes up to four people, there is an extra charge of $15 per day, per person for any extra people. Campers can set up tents or trailers around the site and have access to the kitchen and bathroom, as well as an outdoor shower. There is a kegerator, gas grill, propane heater, and a corn hole set available to rent (see Extras). There is plenty of space to set up multiple tents, perfect for a group. Navarro Beach and Van Damme State Beach are 15 minute drives away. The village of Albion has a general store and deli, as well as beautiful river and marina. A 20 minute drive North will get you to the village of Mendocino where you'll find shopping and restaurants, as well as access to hiking, biking, kayaking, and whale watching. The patriarch of the family, whose family had moved here from Sweden, had a great love of the forest and trains. The property was one of the first certified tree farms in California with the goal of nurturing a healthy forest. In the 1960’s, a mile of railroad tracks was laid and the whistle of a small, steam engine train could be heard throughout the community. Local residents and kids were treated to free train rides and special events for many years. There is a natural spring with a small creek that supplies the ponds with fresh water year around. There is also a small canyon on the property with a larger stream called Mud Creek. The land is rich in Indian history and there a artifacts and other signs on the Indians presence. The Cohasset area is relatively unknown. 15 miles from our property is Deer Creek and the Lasson National Forest is about a 2 hour drive north. While staying with us you can pitch your tent on our private 500 acres. We have 2 primitive camping spots on our property. Each spot has a picnic table and fire pit. There is a flush toilet shared for both camp sites. * During freezing weather the toilets may be closed so they don’t freeze! Please check before booking *The spots are spread out to ensure privacy. Our property is surrounded by the forest and is loaded with deer, squirrels, turkeys and other forest animals. We have numerous walking trails, a fresh water pond for fishing and swimming. Please notify us if you have an RV. Site 1 is best for RV's. Site 2 can accommodate smaller RV's.

We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site. Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle. Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable. For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.** Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. Our best sites, with little-to-no traffic noise, (and the best views) are on our back property. Best suited for tents, camper vans, trucks, and SMALL trailers or SMALL RVs. There is a semi-steep hill up to our upper property if you're towing a trailer you will need a powerful vehicle to make it up the hill. Sites on our lower property by the common area are easily accessible with views up the hills/mountains but come with some highway noise. We imagine it sounds like waves crashing and call it the "steel river." For your private camp area, please bring your own drinking water, water to wash dishes and if think you'll need: chairs, camp tables, umbrellas or shade structures, trash bags/cans (throw your trash in the dumpster out side our entry gate when you leave. Plan on being fully self-sufficient. Otherwise, feel free to use the common area BBQ, Sink, tables and chairs at the barn until 10 pm. MOST DOGS WELCOMED... WE PROHIBIT UN-neutered aggressive breed dogs. DOGS ARE FREE TO RUN UNLEASHED ALL OVER OUR LAND. The front of our property is all. Fenced. The back property just has barbed wire. ABOUT OUR DOGS: We have one female dog and three male dogs (one of the three is UN-NEUTERED) a 10-year-old yellow lab (Titan-Dan.) A 14-year-old American Dingo (Reno.) 5-year-old Great Pyrenees (Bandit.) And then there is Cannoli a 7-year-old female Great Pyrenees who adopted us we saw her come through the bushes from the neighbors property across the highway… She ran across the highway and jumped the medium and ran up to our gate, she hasn’t left since… COMMON USE AREA: Inside and near the barn include tables, chairs, hammocks, wood fire pit, outdoor propane BBQ and stove, wash sink and outdoor mineral shower, and mineral cold plunge tubs. FIRE SAFETY and PROPANE FIREPITS: We have “very safe” propane firepits and fire extinguishers at every site. Under the right conditions, we will light a real wood fire at the common area by the barn. Feel free to join us in the early evening until 10pm. PORTA-POTTIES: We have porta-potties next to the Barn, the Garden, Running Dog Flats, and the Art Studio. They are pumped clean every Thursday and are generally very lightly used. If you don’t want to use the porta-potties we recommend/encourage you to bring your own camp toilet, bags, and absorbent. WILDLIFE: Our dogs do a great job of fending off the resident bobcat and coyotes on the front portion of our property and by the barn, if they are barking in the night there's a reason. If you end up camping on the front portion of our property and think their barking will affect your sleep, bring earplugs ;-). Drinking-WATER, Dish Washing Water and Shade: All of our sites are dry camping i.e. there is no potable water available. Please bring all your own drinking/dishwashing water. We have a picnic table and 1 umbrella at all the sites. Please bring additional shade i.e. easy up or other shade structures if you think you'll need it. Cold Mineral Dunks and Hot Outdoor Mineral Shower: We have huge aluminum cowboy cold dunk tubs available at what we lovingly/jokingly refer to as our very own “Cactus Flower Beach,” which is not a real beach… It feels like a beach because we’ve decked it out with lounge chairs, a daybed cabana, 150K pounds of sand and tiki-hut umbrellas. It’s fun to hang out there when it’s hot under the shade of the pepper trees. NOTE: The Outdoor Shower screening is a tad see-through. If you are shy, wear a bathing suit. Please limit showers to 3-5 minutes max. Mineral Water Definition: Water from a mineral spring or well (i.e. our well) that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. TRASH: Please pack all your trash out to the large trash bin located at the entrance to our property. Please take your recycling with you. ELECTRICITY and Wi-Fi: We have charging stations in the barn for your computers, phones, etc. Password: HowdyDoody (Accessible in and near the barn common area.) COMMISSARY: We have farm fresh eggs and meats from the pork palace across the street, and other swag i.e Hats for sale in the barn. FEED THE CHICKENS AND GOATS: Please feel free to feed the goats and chickens your vegetable scraps and or bring them a treat they love full heads of cabbage, lettuce, cantaloupe and watermelon. CHILDREN: For safety, children must be always accompanied by an adult! There is space for multiple RVs or additional tents sharing your party's RV restroom facilities. Site one will accommodate sixteen people and multiple vehicles. We offer 2 sites the Grove: one that accommodates larger RV's with up to 6 people (called "Diamond" - which has a larger area with soft solar lighting, picnic table, fire pit, corn hole, cozy bench for two, complimentary bundle of wood and a tasty treat. (This site also accommodates two RV's -just "add on" in Extras for each night of their stay.) The other smaller space (called "Chandler") is designed for a single RV or conversion van. Sprinkled with lighting, we include a picnic table, campfire pit with 3-4 pieces of split wood (you can add-on additional bundle for $10), Weber BBQ, bistro table and romantic bench swing. We include a treat for both our guests and their doggies. The two sites are 200 yards apart (that's two football fields) assuring your privacy. Please note in your request what you will be traveling in (RV, Trailer, Sprinter, etc). North Coast

Camping beneath redwoods—the tallest trees in the world—is a hard-to-beat highlight of the north coast. The majestic groves scattered across Redwood National & State Parks are an excellent choice for first-timers. Further south, from Eureka to Mendocino and eventually San Francisco, you’ll find a string of private and state park campgrounds tucked along rugged coastlines marked by bluffs, coves, dunes, and tidepools.

Central Coast

Stretching from Monterey south to Santa Barbara, the Central Coast scores points for scenery and variety. Plus, it’s a convenient escape from the urban hassles of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Redwoods, waterfalls, and windswept bluffs border Highway 1 in Big Sur, while waves crash beside state parks north of Santa Barbara. For a remote camping experience, campsites at Channel Islands National Park off the coast of Santa Barbara can oblige.

SoCal Beaches: Los Angeles to San Diego

The golden beaches of Southern California are the stuff of lazy days and pop songs. And fantastic camping for those inclined. The best campsites line-up beside the coast between Newport Beach and Dana Point in Orange County, with a few more perched on coastal bluffs north of San Diego. Not surprisingly, these oceanfront sites fill fast, so book early.

Sierra Nevada Mountains

Granite domes and lush Alpine meadows border campgrounds in Yosemite National Park, while enormous sequoias are the draw in Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks. Campgrounds beside alpine lakes and the sparkling blue waters of Lake Tahoe are always postcard-pretty.

Southern Deserts

For surreal sunsets, striking rock formations, restless sand dunes, and spring wildflowers, head east. Nine campgrounds and plenty more right outside await at Death Valley National Park, home to the lowest spot in the U.S. Joshua trees and picturesque boulders keep Hipcampers happy at Joshua Tree National Park while Anza-Borrego Desert State Park serves up fantastic desert hiking outside San Diego. High season is late fall through spring, when temperatures are pleasant.
