Tucked away in the woods, just outside of the beautiful seaside village of Mendocino, is the Mendocino hideaway. A 2 acre quiet oasis filled with redwoods, douglass fir, and a variety of flora and fauna to observe. Wildflowers, rhododendron, blackberries, ferns, and native wild grasses abound. As well as a variety of birds, ravens, owls, woodpeckers and quail and other wildlife: deer, racoons, rabbits, bears all call this area home. Our campsites have a fire pit, picnic table, and access to an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen! The accommodation includes staying in a 850 square foot wooden yurt with bamboo floors.  The building has a wooden stove and propane wall heat. We also have a fridge, stove for cooking and propane wall heater inside the yurt. There is a futon that sleeps 2 plus a kids size bed, but please bring sleeping bags or bedding.  You can also put up two tents next to the yurt for more sleeping. We have now added also an attached kitchen and bathroom to the yurt so we have an indoor shower and full kitchen! There is a detached bathroom with a maintenance free composting toilet and simple outdoor kitchen.  You will have access to cooking utensils and cookware, camp stove, and fire pit. There is a solar system so you have access to electricity and wifi. The drive from Willits is 25 minutes, with only the last 5 minutes on a dirt road.  You can do the drive in any car, unless the occasional snowy conditions.  There is plenty of parking next to the yurt for easy unpacking.. To access the coast you do have to go back through Willits and use highway 20.

The cabin was very cozy and was what we were looking for. ~15 min to dtown Mendocino, and Albion has its own small grocery store nearby. It feels very woodsy and quiet, and the trail the property connects to goes out quite far into nature. So many mushrooms! Used the hot bath a lot, the outdoor shower we couldn't figure out, but it was cold to be out there anyway. The ladder that goes into the bedroom upstairs works but is definitely for younger/more able bodied folks, and I couldn't imagine getting up in the night to use the bathroom, so we ended up using the sofa bed. Thanks so much to host Elisa for being very responsive and helpful.

Our host Elisa was very helpful and communicative! The view outside our cabin was beautiful and peaceful. When we did run into people living on the property, they were friendly and kind. When exploring the area there were a lot of different mushrooms and birds to enjoy. My only complaint would be that the ladder to the loft bed was hard to climb and the couch bed was uncomfortable. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay!

If you enjoy quiet time in nature, where no one is about you, and you need a place to meditate or just vegetate, maybe read a book, this could be for you. The cabin is warm and spacious, the table and chairs and small fridge are sufficient for a couple's basic needs and there's a DeLonghi-type heater, if it gets cool (which wasn't the case when I visited). The kitchen about 40-50 yds from the cabin has sufficient counter space to prep meals. I enjoyed the hot shower after walking miles in and about town and beyond. There's an open field area about 100 yds up the path, where my pup was able to explore. If I plan to return, which I will, I'll bring an air mattress just in case, as the mattress was a tad hard for me. I prefer a firm, not a hard, mattress. I understand Matthew will provide a better mattress that's more accommodating for us non-Spartan souls. ;o)

I would stay here again! Super cute and well appointed cabin. I loved the large bathroom and claw foot tub, and the giant window right in front of it looking out towards redwoods. The cabin felt private enough with comfort that the hosts weren’t too far away on the land.

What a fantastic stay! From the moment we arrived, James was incredibly helpful and welcoming. He met us at the road, guided us in, and provided a radio so we could stay in touch with him and the host, Linda throughout our visit—which made us feel safe and supported, especially while navigating the area or heading out on hikes without cell service. The setting was peaceful and breathtaking. Absolute silence at night, with stunning views. Watching the sunset and sunrise from the deck was magical, and the bed was one of the most comfortable we’ve ever slept on—seriously, we slept like rocks. We loved the outdoor space, especially the charming outdoor sink setup. It added to the rustic charm without sacrificing comfort. The main house is just up the hill—close enough in case we needed something, but still far enough to feel totally private and remote. And a special shoutout to Buddy the dog! He popped by now and then to check on us, which we appreciated. He felt like a friendly guardian making sure everything was good in our little corner of the woods. Highly recommend if you’re looking for peace, comfort, and just the right amount of adventure. We’d come back in a heartbeat!

I loved this stay so much! I am going to try and stay again in the future so I can spend more time here - I spent most of the day out exploring Mendocino, and next time, I would want to spend more time in the tiny house/the property itself! Some of the highlights: - Bathtub with the large window and forest view + the outdoor tree shower were fantastic - The tiny house decor was so cute! I loved all the thought and details put into it - Upstairs bed was pretty cozy and warm, and had a few great spots to chill out and read - Excellent vinyl options for the record player - There’s a small grocery/deli about 10 minute drive from the hipcamp, and you’re about a 10 minute drive to downtown Mendocino, and 30-40 minute drive to fort Bragg - Communication from the host was great!
