This beautiful spot was re-forested with pine a number of years ago, and was sectioned off from the surrounding farmland, which is now maintained by the mennonite community.
It is 8 1/2 acres of wetland and forest, with a mown perimeter, and cool places to tuck into the forest for the night.
The current owner was a special educator, and now is slowly turning the land into her homestead.
There is a beautiful, spa quality outdoor shower next to a tidy and 'fancier than most' outhouse, a strawberry patch as well as wild alpine strawberries all over the property, a big dog and a small indoor cat keep her company.
Here is what the land offers:
-Bunkie in the Forest: A sweet 8x8 ft. space with new bunk and mattresses as of April 2023
-Strawberry Fields bunkie: an 10x12 space with a loft with a queen memory foam mattress and a main floor with a full futon and a small table
-Campsites: Meadow, Forest and River spots. Close to each other, but you'd never know it! All three are chill and serene places. The property backs onto a ten-foot swimming hole in an otherwise shallow part of the Saugeen River.

5G/LTE cellphone service is good for Bell, Rogers and Telus networks. We have 3 outhouses on the premises and an outdoor hot shower.
FREE Firewood can be gathered on the forest floor or pay for on-site pre-cut wood. Outhouses are close to campsites....but not too close 💩
Port Rowan is only 12 minutes away by car, most amenities can be purchased only 1 minute away at the local Busy Bee gas station.
We are situated in the middle of a Recreation Hotspot! Our site is within 3 minutes of paddling the Big Creek, 3 to 10 minutes to several A+ hiking trails, 15 minutes to amazing freshwater beaches of Long Point and Turkey Point, and the area is abound with cycling trails, motorcycle routes, geocaching, boat launches (we have room here for your boat!), cider/wine tours, and more! We are the perfect basecamp for everything the Long Point Bay area has to offer
We have some great watering holes nearby like burning kiln winery, hounds of Erie and Charlotteville brewing company.

It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford.
O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes.
By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door.
It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much.
Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing.
A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’?
‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day.
Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three.
Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention.
People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’.
Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy.
Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it.
Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two.
In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’!
After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was and the rest is history.

It's an ideal spot for swimming and launching canoes, kayaks, or paddle-board river excursions, thanks to its shallow entry and rocky bottom. Adventurous visitors might choose to paddle upriver, around an island, and return through the remaining historic canal. For a more strenuous workout, consider paddling up the canal to the Grenville lighthouse and then drifting all the way back to camp with the river's current. We are 15 minutes north off Trans Canada Highway, Blind River. 5-6 hours northwest of Toronto and 9 hours east of Thunder Bay, between Sault Saint Marie and Sudbury. Backwater Paradise has possibilities for several camping styles. whether you bring your own RV, easy tenting or choose to go deep and experience raw wilderness/survival in our Left Field. There is a water tower providing utility water for washing or extinguishing camp fires. We have a quiet atmosphere for new and savvy nature lovers. s. There are no lights on this lake which makes it perfect for star gazing. The main entrance is very well marked and leads to the lake. This is where we host RV sites and tent sites. All nature watchers and sky gazers will enjoy the spaces we have here. Moose, bald eagles. wolves, otters, beavers, bears, owls and several migratory birds are common visitors. You will get to hear whippoorwills, several species of frogs, crickets, and sometimes wolves/coyotes at night. It is very important that pets be kept on a leash. In the lake there is plenty of bass and pike to keep a fisher and kid fishers busy. Common gear will work here and strongly recommend using wire swivel leaders. We promote 'lake 2 plate' principles and if you need anything let us know!! All campers have use of the water front no matter where your site is. On the shore of the lake front is a very large common area and firepit and picnic tables for everyone to access and enjoy the water and the shoreline. We host fires Friday and Saturday nights weather permitting at this location. There are several firepit rings to allow campers to have their own camp fire and we sell hardwood. We also have a paddle boat rental. There is 30 acres of mixed forest, lake and marsh, and now we are able to be open year round. You will notice that some of the photos have brown for grass. Those are earlier pictures of when we first opened. All of our expanded areas are like that at first, and things have changed a lot over the last 4 years and, will continue to have "unkempt" areas as we continue to expand. Our newest listings this year are called Almost Paradise (shower unit) and more recently Rootbound Ranch (camping for those travelling with livestock or horses.) This also available for those that like to stay at a farm. If Backwater Paradise is full, you can enjoy the same attributes just across the road at Almost Paradise. Another site we have is Left Field. Its raw bush and field space in the center. This is where the marsh is. We are also working on a new trail between Backwater Paradise and Left Field and encourage our campers to enjoy the views of both of these spaces.

We were so happy to discover this beautiful spot just a short drive from Toronto. Nestled right next to the river, the campground is exceptionally clean and well-maintained.
Marcin and his wife were incredibly friendly, nice, and inviting. They keep both the sites and the facilities spotless and tidy, and they went out of their way to accommodate every request we had. The campsites back directly onto the river and are only a short walk from the beach. They also sell dry, high-quality hardwood, a huge improvement over the moldy, damp wood you often get at provincial parks. Another big plus is that they allow several families to share the same site, making it a much better option for group camping than the provincial parks.

We loved camping at Pasture 1! Josh was a fantastic host—friendly, accommodating, and very responsive. We experienced some significant wind and rain during our stay, and Josh made sure to drive by and check on us to make sure everything was okay. We also really enjoyed getting to spend time by the river and swimming in the swimhole—it was such a great bonus to the camping experience! His thoughtfulness and attentiveness really made a difference. We’d definitely camp here again!

We really enjoyed this spot! It was clean, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful flowers. The river was beautiful too, with lots of people kayaking and tubing. Luke stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. One of our favorite camping spots so far!

Gorgeous, natural property, warm river, oodles of boats/sup to play with, nice gathering spot with screen room and grill to congregate at, and wonderful hosts! Brien is a lovely host who tells interesting stories about the history of the property and area. There are a variety of decks and chairs and hammocks directly on the water to choose from. Definitely make use of the sups/kayaks/canoes and head up river to the bridge. There are two nice parks nearby (over bridge and by canal) and shopping with 5-10 minutes. To start Angela and Luke are great Hosts who I have enjoyed meeting. Angela worked with me to change my date because of rain. This was my 3rd trip and come for the Quiet camping over loud Conservation Camping. Up to now everything had been peaceful. Until last night next to the Dam Spot there is a Permanent Trailer that had people arrive at 6 PM as soon as it became dark 9PM the music got turned up. There Dog was Barking The Voices and Music continued until 1 AM there was no effort to lower there voices and in fact it got louder. Keep in mind if you rent the dam spot expect loud noise from these people. It really is a peaceful place, Unfortunately some people thing they can do what ever they want.

Stayed during the week and we were the only campers on the site. Beauty spot right on the bank of the Saugeen River. The property was neat and exactly as it was described. No problem with directions and would recommend it for sure!

Marcin was an extraordinary host! He goes above and beyond to make us have comfortable and enjoy our stay. He even toured us in his property. This camp is so beutiful. If you ever have an important event or milestone this place will be a perfect venue. The barn and the river are my top favorite sight! The campgrounds are so clean and flat. Even our little dog had the time of his life exploring the place. Our kids also enjoyed swimming in the river and the playground. They even have real bathrooms and showers. Thank you Marcin for hosting us. We will surely be back with a much bigger group of friends!

Great campsite and activities area. Very easy access to the beach and trails nearby, host was extremely helpful with everything from check in to getting firewood. If you’re lucky you may run into a very large raccoon who enjoys garlic bread 😂

I really enjoyed my time at Pine the Sky, the host was really nice with my wife and I. The sky at night is full of stars and if you want to make a fire, Joan sells firewood for $10 a bag, but you can bring your own too.
Even though there were more people there we still had privacy with our campsite near the river. There is a bathroom but if you'll stay in campsite 1, I recommend bringing a portable potty/privacy tent because it is "far" from the bathroom (a 3 or 4 minutes' walk)
"Problems"/Wrong expectations on my end: we went just last weekend (August 15) and since it's summer there was A LOT of mosquitos. We had bug spray and even mosquito head nest, but it wasn't enough, my whole body is covered with bites.
I also chose this place because I wanted to get in the water, but it was really muddy, you can use the available Kayaks (we did and it was very fun!) but I am not sure about swimming. It is a little bit hard to get in and out of the river even with water shoes.
PS: I loved her dogs!
