Our stay with at Dragon Fly Farm was truly wonderful. Sharon is a warm and knowledgeable host who clearly cares deeply for her animals. My husband and I stayed for one night with our 21-month-old twins, and it was such a memorable experience for all of us. The kids had an amazing time feeding the lambs, sheep, alpacas, and goats. Sharon struck the perfect balance—giving us space to enjoy the day on our own while also being available to show us around and help us engage with the animals. We highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique and heartwarming getaway.

Weekend Trip to Pine the Sky

We had an amazing time here for a cozy little getaway. The property was beautiful, the hosts were great. The little cabin was cozy comfortable. It was all great to go visit Hoggs Falls and Eugenenia Falls which was super fun. Thank you for an amazing weekend. We really hope to return soon.

I really enjoyed the location and the beautiful views. The host was cheerful and very helpful throughout our stay. However, there were a few downsides: the toilet was extremely dirty and unusable, so we had to go to Tim Hortons instead. The grass was overgrown, which made it difficult to enjoy outdoor games, though the host mentioned it would be mowed the following week. There was also some leftover garbage, presumably from the previous campers.

1 night at Pine the Sky

We tent camped at river site. The site was a great a walk from parking. We had ample spots to pitch, and a great angle for watching the sunsets, and to have a mellow rise in the morning. The fit pit is great and the cooking rack matched perfectly. The Host was a gem, Perfect, very easy and and fun to boot. Will be booking again. We booked this site as it seamed the closest To Devils Glen Provincial Park, and closer to to rock climbing parking spot at Devils Glen. It allowed for a direct route through Fllesherton that has a couple great coffee and take away breakfast options.

Karen was a wonderful host—both very helpful and great to talk to. We loved the farm. Since my partner and I are both animal lovers, we really enjoyed spending time with the alpacas and horses. It’s a great alternative for anyone looking to combine camping with farm life.

Very nice spot, conveniently located near Long Point. We were visiting for the birds. The campsite is not completely out of site from other sites, but it's a nice enough spot to pitch a tent for a night. I would come back.

Pine the sky is hands down one of the best campsites l've ever stayed at. From the moment we arrived, our host Joan, made us feel completely comfortable and at home. She's super friendly and puts a lot of care into making the campsite special. The site itself is stunning- nestled in nature with a trail that leads to a breathtaking view of the river. The space was clean, peaceful and perfectly set up for a relaxing escape or an adventure packed weekend. We highly recommend Pine the Sky!!

Offering a serviced camping site for a tent, with firepit, toilet, shower, a large deck, floating dock and private 1.5 acre lake! Parking is right at the campsite, following a 400m tractorway over grass. This tractorway enters and exits onto the county road independent of the host’s private home driveway. Our small, bio-diverse farm is in a quiet location but only 10km from shops and cafes. Our property is run with minimal chemical inputs and a lot of hard manual labour. We also run a seasonal farm shop selling our tree nut products and crafts. You will camp by our private 1.5 acre lake which you are welcome to explore by our canoe (canoe, two paddles and life preservers provided) supporting sun fish, bass and perch with midland and snapping turtles and thousands of tree frogs in the spring, and musk rat, woodland ducks, and heron. You may also see bobolinks, barn swallows, and bats in summer, ask to borrow our bat detector to listen to their chirps at dusk, or binoculars to watch wildlife. Check out our ancient Jesuit pear tree, 65’ tall, you may never see another as it is a very rare tree. We are on the migration routes of Tundra swans and Monarch butterflies. Star gazing is very good, there is very little light pollution. Tall poplar trees provide shade and shelter as well as pleasant sounds of the wind. We provide free 5G drinking water per day, firewood (unless there is a ban), and within 5 min walk you can use a fridge/freezer, electric outlet for short term use eg charging a battery. We service the campsite by mowing, a rustic recycling station, kindling, matches, firepit, gas burner-griddle and we collect clean, washed recyclables, compostable veg scraps and paper and garbage after your stay. Please don’t bring your own firewood, we provide plenty. Footwear is advised. Conditions underfoot are usually good, we do try to keep poison ivy in check but it does pop up here and there. We experience a modified continental climate with the effect of the Great Lakes. The typical snow season lasts from November until April, interspersed by rapid thaws and rainfall. Rarely does this create significant problems underfoot due to our soils being free-draining sands and gravel, but occasional localized flooding can occur in low-lying spots.

Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield. The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion. It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort. Grocery shopping, nature trails, etc are just a few minutes away. The scenic town of Westport is a 30 min drive away with amazing shops and a local winery.

The Farm

It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford. O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes. By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door. It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much. Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing. A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’? ‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day. Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three. Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention. People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’. Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy. Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it. Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two. In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’! After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was…and as they say, the rest is future.

Cabin in the Woods

Sit by the pond, sit by the creek, sit in the waterfall, sit out at Blueberry Hill for a pleasant breeze or up on SunStar Ridge for some nightly star gazing or lay back in a hammock or on zero gravity chair 1 Bunkie on a hill overlooking the pond and 2 private tent sites, one at Boot Hill and one in the Field of Dreams. Each site has a fire pit and a compostable toilet and there is an outhouse on the property for the bunkie. Great for canoes, kayaks, bird and wildlife watching with spectacular star gazing. This property was part of an old homestead and as such I am still finding things so please respect the caution tape and stay on the marked trails. Some are treasures (European Grapes, Bergamot, French Roses, Asparagus, Rhubarb, Ramps, Fiddle-heads) and others not so much. I am re purposing what I can and collecting the rest for disposal as I nurture this land back to what it was meant to be, paradise. There is an outdoor shower available as well. Come and enjoy a traditional, rustic camping experience on the mighty Ottawa River! Bring your water shoes and a canoe or kayak, or you may rent one of ours for an unforgettable adventure. C-O-G is located on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, east of the bridge that passes over from Hawkesbury, Ontario. This beautiful (mostly) deciduous forest is situated on both sides of the 344/Rte Des Outaouais. The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and more. "Lock Lane Point" ...the shared area Also referred to as "the Point", this is the peninsula that the main roadway ends at (where the BBQ, kayaks and canoes are), this is a shared area for us and our guests to enjoy. It's encouraged that guests feel welcome to come and go freely, promoting a sense of community while respecting shared use. The Point offers a large picnic table, a shared propane BBQ, comfortable seating, a large rock perfect for sunbathing, and a river view. It's an ideal spot for swimming and launching canoe, kayak, or paddle-board river excursions, thanks to its shallow entry and rocky bottom. Adventurous visitors might choose to paddle upriver, around an island, and return through the remaining historic canal. For a more strenuous workout, consider paddling up the canal to the Grenville lighthouse and then drifting all the way back to camp with the river's current. Enjoy this historic, lazy river experience! Amenities... Numerous amenities are located within a distance of 1-3 kms, including a gas station with electric vehicle charging facilities, an IGA grocery store, and various restaurants such as McDonald's and Tim Horton's. For a classic poutine experience, Jos Patate is a great choice, having been around for many decades. If you're looking for a wide range of poutine options, La Fromagerie is the place to go. For ice cream lovers, La Crémière, located in the same building, is a must-visit. Tourism... Numerous tourist attractions are conveniently located in the vicinity, such as the exhilarating white water rafting experience on the Rouge River and the wildlife-filled Parc Omega zoo, both within a short 10-25 km distance. For a wider range of activities, day trips to Ottawa, Montreal, the Calypso water park, or Mont Tremblant are all approximately an hour's drive away. A little History... Our property has played host to a portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over. Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

In the cabin we have a double bed, a table and 2 chairs, a two-burner stove with oven, a washing up station. Fall asleep listening to owls call and wolves howling in the distance. Wake to the sounds of the animals on the farm, you may even be able to arrange to gather your own eggs for breakfast! We are confident you won't want to leave the farm, but in case you choose to explore beyond our 98 acres there is lots to still see and do within only a short drive. We are located close to Buckhorn, where you can explore more lakes, pick your own berries or visit pumpkin patches, pick up groceries or enjoy the restaurants in Buckhorn. Also, in nearby Bobcaygeon you can find world-class shopping and dining, parks, beaches, festivals, a heritage village, and even more lakes. One hour north of us is Haliburton, with the Haliburton Forest and Wolf visitation Centre, Sir Sam's ski resort, shops and restaurants, and Sir Sandford Fleming's college of Fine Arts. A great site for families that you can call home and plan day trips around the area, or hang out at the campsite. Firewood is available for purchase on-site. We have 3 campsites that are spread out on 4 acres of grass. 1 site is used for temporary summer trailers, 2 are for camping. Pets are welcome, but keep them on a leash. Please remember to remove all garbage and recycling from campsites, a compost bin is available on site by the garden. A portable toilet is available from May 15 to the end of thanksgiving weekend in October. A 2 night stay is required for summer weekends. We look forward to hosting you!

Eagle Lake is approximately 3 hours from Toronto, just over 4 hours from Ottawa, and less than an hour to Huntsville. It is very close to Algonquin Park.
