It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford.
O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes.
By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door.
It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much.
Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing.
A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’?
‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day.
Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three.
Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention.
People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’.
Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy.
Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it.
Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two.
In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’!
After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was and the rest is history.

By a combination of good timing and good luck, I was able to make that dream come true and in the spring of 2014 I acquired this land with the hopes of building my dream water ski lake on it. 7 years later, we have a thriving water ski club and are constantly making improvements to the site. We now have decided to add some sites for rent to share this incredible property with others outside the water ski community.
Site #1 is a small cabin that sleeps 3 and site #2 is a small houseboat that has been converted to a bunkie.
Onsite activities include use of a canoe and paddleboard. Use of a kid's swingset and olympic trampoline. Swimming and fishing.

There is a beach and a public park a couple minute walk from the cabin. There is a 100 km bike trail within a 5-minute bike ride from the cabin. While you are in town you can watch Lakers and Ocean Boats go through the canal
Within 15 minute is Ridgeway and Crystal Beach which offers concerts, beaches and activities.

Like most folks who’ve been bitten by the water ski bug, I dreamed of having my own lake and when I met my life partner Harald, an elite slalom skier, my search began in earnest. By a combination of good timing and good luck, I was able to make that dream come true and in the spring of 2014 I acquired this land with the hopes of building my dream water ski lake on it. 7 years later, we have a thriving water ski club and are constantly making improvements to the site. We now have decided to add some sites for rent to share this incredible property with others outside the water ski community.
Site #1 is a small cabin that sleeps 3 and site #2 is a small houseboat that has been converted to a bunkie.
Onsite activities include use of a canoe and paddleboard. Use of a kid's swingset and olympic trampoline. Swimming and fishing.
Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted.

Dan was super responsive. Our RV broke down nearby, and he called us back right away and got us set up (after hours). Very convenient location and full hookups. Also easy to get in and out of, and flat. Not only did he get us set up quickly at his place, but he also got us ready for the morning to get repairs across the street at a well-established, long-time truck garage. We are grateful to him and highly recommend DINO!

There are very few campgrounds in the city of Buffalo, so this was a great option. The Hokies worked perfectly and looked quite new. There are no amenities, but that was clear in the description. Great location and a very responsive host.

We had a wonderful stay! The sunrise site is very private and spacious, with a beautiful view overlooking a huge open grass field. It’s such a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy nature.
Karen was super friendly and welcoming! She gave us an informative tour of the property, let us interact with the animals, and shared some great recommendations for local places to visit.
One thing worth mentioning for anyone particular about washrooms: the toilet is a portable flushing toilet. It was well-maintained and clean, so we had no issues with it.
Overall, a lovely camping experience. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend The Farm!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at Barry and Monica‘s property. It’s a perfect location for our three small kids. There are so many activities to do within walking distance. Every amenity available, including a trailer washroom. We will definitely be back! Thanks Barry and Monica.

Weekend Trip to Boho Bungalow in Port Dover
Our stay at Beth’s Boho Bungalow in Port Dover was an absolute blessing and a gift. It was magical beyond words, and it was exactly the peaceful, healing escape that my wife needed.
The property itself is a perfect paradise. We spent our time relaxing in the amazing hot tub, sitting by the cozy fire pit, and walking down to her beautiful, serene ravine. At night, the sky opened up to the most incredible view of the stars. Sitting outside, listening to the wind blowing through the trees and all the beautiful noises of nature, was deeply therapeutic. On top of the beautiful privacy, the location is perfect—it is a scenic, easy walk straight to the Port Dover pier, the beach, and all the local amenities.
I am a firm believer that angels walk this earth, and Beth is wholeheartedly one of them. She is genuinely one of the kindest, most gentle human beings we have ever dealt with. To make things even better, Beth's neighbor, Kat, and her husband were also just amazing, beautiful human beings. It was truly an absolute pleasure to meet them as well.
Even though we are local to the area, this felt like a completely different world. We had such a wonderful experience that we will definitely be going back. If you are looking for a deeply romantic and relaxing getaway hosted by extraordinary souls, please book this beautiful spot!

We had such a wonderful stay! The site was lovely and peaceful, and our little one had the absolute best time — it was his first camping trip and it couldn't have gone better. Jessica was so accommodating and even provided heated blankets, which made the chilly night extra cozy. We would love to come back!

Oh my gosh! This is an 8 out of 5 stars! I took my 11 granddaughter there for a surprise overnight girls trip! Giselle greeted us as if we were family! The cabin & it's amenities were immaculate and over the top! I am usually a tent camper kind of gal, but damn! Quiet, close to the beach, and surprisingly private. Will go back again and tell everyone how great it is!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Quarry! We happened to be the only campers there during our visit, so it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful. We were also able to choose our own spot and found a great one with a really nice fire pit conveniently located near the bathrooms.
The bathroom and shower facilities were especially impressive in terms of their construction and cleanliness. Everything was well maintained, and it was clear that some real thought had gone into putting the facilities together.
Overall, The Quarry was a comfortable, peaceful place to spend the night, with nice amenities and a relaxing atmosphere. We'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet camping experience in the area!
