It was 1984 when John found his ‘diamond in the rough’, 20 acres with an orchard on the outskirts of Brantford.
O.K., so the house was nothing to write home about but perfect for building a construction yard…no neighbors except for the family across the road that used their property to build log homes.
By 1987 the old house was gone, a new one was being built and a shop for working on heavy equipment had been located about 200 ft. from Dr. the back door.
It wasn’t until 1996 that things changed very much.
Yes, the property around the house had benefitted from a wide array of trees and shrubs that John saved from the construction/demolition jobs he had done and that still thrive today but no big projects (except for equipment purchases) were ongoing.
A chance meeting with the neighbor across the road one day resulted in the following dinner conversation, ‘How was your day’ I chirped. ‘Not bad, so-and-so didn’t come in; the truck broke down and I took it for repair; I bought the property across the road, and oh, yeah I’ll need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ was John’s casual reply. ‘What was that’? I pressed. ‘Yes, I need a ride after dinner to pick up the truck’ he repeated with a bit more volume. Of course like anyone, I had questions, ‘Do you want peas or corn with dinner’? ‘What time do you want to go to get the truck’?
‘The property across the road’, 10 acres, still has the 4 storey barn with its twin tiled silos which was built in 1914 and the big white house with wrap around porch that once was home to a Doctor and his family. Built so the Doctor could see his patients in the front with the family living in the back was very common in the day.
Things remained relatively peaceful until 2000 when after studying alpacas for more than 6 years I bought our first three.
Back in 2000 alpacas and llamas were not frequently seen on farms and because they could been seen from the road they received A LOT of attention.
People driving by would stop and ask about them, ask if they could take a picture or two and that was when I would hear over and over again ‘You have a beautiful place here, I wish I/we could stay’.
Well, if you want to visit and stay in the city it’s doable, we call it a hotel. But visiting a farm and staying well, that isn’t so easy.
Each year we would see more and more families coming to ‘The Farm’ as they would call it.
Some came to see the alpacas and horses, some came for a stroll and to check out the horse drawn milk and bread delivery wagons, some to have family birthday parties, others to have engagement/wedding/Christmas card pictures…and so many asked if there was any way they could spend a day or two.
In 2021 during a conversation with a friend I mentioned we were in the process of gutting the 1100 sq. ft. space downstairs and turning it into an Airbnb! Right away she said, ‘I don’t know why you don’t have a Hipcamp? You’ve got that great area by the new barn that Hipcampers would love’!
After a little investigation I found out what a Hipcamp was and the rest is history.

After Gerry and his dad sold their garden centre and nursery, we built this home and raised our four boys here (they like to joke they were our first Airbnb guests — the non-paying kind!). Now retired, Gerry from lawn care and Rosemary from managing a seniors’ complex, we spend our days gardening, harvesting vegetables, and preserving the bounty of our land. Our property is nestled in a quiet rural area where mornings begin with birdsong and evenings settle into the gentle chorus of crickets and tree frogs. A walk down our peaceful road takes you past dairy farms and fields of corn, soybeans, and hay — often without passing a single car.
The grounds are designed for gathering and relaxation. Each summer, we host family reunions and church picnics with up to 75 guests enjoying the heated pool, hammocks, patio, and spacious lawn. Campers have access to a large grassy area bordered by maples, oaks, and a wooded stretch to the west — perfect for pitching tents or parking campers.

Welcome to Boondocking on 135 Acres!
The property spans across 135 acres, and includes well-kept woodlands, groomed open fields, treed edges and water views.
Our boondocking site is located in the middle of one of our private open fields. THIS SITE DOES NOT HAVE A WASHROOM. It is perfect for guests travelling in a self contained travel vehicle. THIS SITE DOES NOT HAVE A WASHROOM.
Tent camping is also welcome in this field, but guests need to bring their own portable camping toilets as we do not allow the digging of "cat holes".
The land is well maintained and the site was thoughtfully chosen, but the wildlife doesn’t know that! You can expect to witness deer sightings, rabbits, a variety of birds, and if you’re quiet and lucky, so much more!
NOTE REGARDING CAMPSITES:
In the past, we did have a number of campsites located in the woods (as pictured in many of our past guest photos), however, due to unforeseen circumstances, we regrettably had to close them down.

You will have access to clean water to swim in (no soaps or detergents in the pond please, we also swim in the pond regularly so we might see you in there, the pond is about 40 meters from our house, no fishing in the pond, no camping within 30 meters of the pond), clean water to drink + wash dishes in, lots of safe flat parking for cars and camper vans, lots of safe flat grass for tents, a giant forest, views of a few beautiful horses doing their own thing on our pastures (do not feed them or go within the fenced off horse areas), loads of birds, dragonflies, butterflies and more!

Located in the hamlet of Mosborough on 113 acres, this is a working farm with open fields, an old orchard, and 27 acres of forest.
We are a short drive to Guelph Lake, the Elora Gorge, Guelph to Goderich rail trail, and a 25-minute drive to St Jacob's farmers market. And a 1.4 km walk to a small country market and bakery. A great site for families that you can call home and plan day trips around the area, or hang out at the campsite. Firewood is available for purchase on-site.
We have 3 campsites that are spread out on 4 acres of grass. 1 site is used for temporary summer trailers, 2 are for camping. Pets are welcome, but keep them on a leash. Please remember to remove all garbage and recycling from campsites, a compost bin is available on site by the garden.
A portable toilet is available from May 15 to the end of thanksgiving weekend in October. And please note that we are located beside an active rail line that is used by the Go Train, VIA Rail and freighters, there are trains that pass throughout the night.
A 2 night stay is required for summer weekends.

Our 14 acre property is a quiet oasis on several biking trails (G2G, Cottonwood Road, Trans Canada Trail) and a very short drive to famous Elora (7 min) and St. Jacobs (20 min), Elmire (10 min). There is access to several Grand River launch sites, many nearby hiking trails, and countless Mennonite farmers markets with fresh produce, baked goods, meats, cheeses, and preserves. This is a hidden Oasis just outside of the Waterloo and Guelph areas.
There’s lots of other exciting things to do and see in the surrounding areas – great restaurants, breweries and wineries, golf courses, rivers, fishing, agri-tourism experiences, events and more.
There is really something for everyone around here.
We have a beautiful green acreage with a picturesque pond, next to Cox Creek and privacy with open and treed space and the promise of gorgeous sunsets almost every night.

We strive to give you a tranquil experience in a beautiful space where you can enjoy relaxing days close to nature, have space to play games, have a paddle around the pond, or seek out the many surrounding activities.
You may encounter property owners (that's us!) and our kids enjoying a walk with their friendly dogs unleashed, picking berries, playing a game or doing yard work near your site and around the property. We hope you don't mind. We aim to give you a lot of privacy, so we aren't going to be around all the time, don't worry. But this is a shared space, that we want to enjoy alongside you and we really hope you enjoy it as much as we do! We'll definitely say hi if we see you but we won't overstay our welcome!

The bungalow features a queen-sized memory foam mattress, a seating area with a table and chairs, and its own covered deck. Outside, you’ll find a two-person hot tub overlooking the hill—a beautiful spot for stargazing!
****NEW for summer 2026! The bungalow has been updated with a new indoor bathroom: hot water shower and sink, and a flush toilet.
For your comfort, the space has both heating and air conditioning. On nice evenings, you can enjoy a fire in the fire pit or head down to a private deck at the bottom of the hill. Check-in is easy with a coded door lock.
I live in the main house with my two cats, and while I’ll give you complete privacy, I’m always available to answer questions or share local recommendations.

Well-behaved pets are welcome, but must be kept on a leash or tethered in the backyard (due to sensitive wildlife). Pets cannot be left unattended.
House Rules:
• No unregistered guests without prior approval.
• No parties.
• No smoking, vaping, candles, or open flames indoors.
• Please put out your campfire with the bucket of water provided.
• Quiet time is 10 PM (out of respect for neighbours).
• Please clean up after your pet.

I stayed at the Sunrise Spot and absolutely enjoyed it. It was private spot, with nothing but the sounds of the country and the farm to enjoy.
Karen was an absolute sweetheart and made the stay even better. She’s so friendly, great communication on the app and welcoming at the site. It’s incredibly easy to get lost in conversation with her.
I’d happily stay here again and definitely recommend the Sunrise Spot to anyone looking for a relaxing, country, campspot, getaway.

We went camping for my mother-in-law's 73rd birthday and we had a phenomenal time. The site was awesome, the property is stunning, and Karen was an absolute delight. We had truly such a lovely time and very much appreciated the farm tour. Thank you for everything!!

Beth's spot in Port Dover is perfect. The backyard is private and cozy. My friend and I had the best time with our three pups enjoying the hot tub, having fires and grilling our food. Water in the shower was hot and had great pressure. Bed was comfy. Beth added lots of small touches like a note for us about the space, k cups for coffee and towels.
We made some day trips to Burning Kiln and Fisky Beaver wineries and Charlottesville brewing (all dog friendly), and enjoyed a stroll through Port Dover. Highly recommend for what feels like a very elevated camping experience!

We had such a great time at The Farm. My friend and I just needed a quick trip out of the city, and this was exactly what we were looking for.
The location is really nice. You're close to Brantford and Paris if you need anything, but it still feels far enough out that you actually get some peace and quiet. Best of both worlds.
We originally booked the Canadian site but switched over to Sunrise. Nothing against the first spot, we just checked the weather and realized we didn't need the overhead cover since it wasn't going to rain. I'm really glad we moved, though. Sunrise is more set back from the other sites, and the two mounds on either side give it a nice enclosed, private feel. Plus you wake up to the sun coming up right in front of you, which is pretty great.
Karen is the real standout here. She knows so much about the animals, she has all the local history, and she's genuinely funny. She really made our stay memorable. Do not skip the farm tour, it's worth doing.
The camping itself was great, but Karen is worth the price of admission all on her own. We'd definitely come back!

I stayed two nights at Beth's cabin behind her house and enjoyed my time there so much. Beth has a special way of making the space feel like it has been dusted with a bit of magic. I loved the hanging chair, guitar that was there to play, space to do yoga and the hot tub for stargazing at night. There was a great juice bar in town and the beach was really close. I had rain one afternoon and did some writing and artwork at the outside table. It was perfect. I would love to book there again in the future. Thank you Beth, you were the perfect host.

Weekend Trip to Bruce Trail Bunkie
MJ was an amazing host! She was very welcoming and very helpful during our stay. The bunkie was very clean and spacious as well had everything we needed. The bunkie was very close to the trail as well the land on which it was had a great view and was very well kept. It was accesible for us despite not driving which makes it ideal for anyone looking to get away from the city without the stress or driving or renting a car. We loved our stay and would do it again.

What a fun amazing time being surrounded by gorgeous alpacas & other farm animals ! Perfect fire pit and set up near the pond watching shooting stars & hearing frogs and crickets all night. If you're looking for a peaceful escape from the city life with friends / family/ solo this is the greatest place to do it ! Stu & his team were lovely made us feel super welcome. The huskeys were absolutely adorable. Definitely would return.
