Far from the big cities and the bustling coastline of California, the freshest air and chillest vibes can be found near little Sonora. The Sierra Nevada foothills promise beautiful hikes by day, and some of the brightest skies by night. A plethora of nearby state parks and Yosemite National Park gives campers plenty to choose from. Wake up on the banks of the Stanislaus River to catch some fish before breakfast, or head higher into the hills to make camp beneath the tall, rocky peaks of the Sierra Nevadas. The stark, hilly landscape makes for the perfect backdrop to any hiking or paddling adventure, and the options for rustic camping can't be beat. Stanislaus National Forest has an abundance of campgrounds to choose from, but just a few miles north the Calaveras Big Trees State Park offers secluded camping and—you guessed it—some very big trees. Alternatively, head just a little south of Sonora, and you'll find private cabins, tree houses and other comfortable lodgings. Put your feet up, wander through the lush meadows, and enjoy the historic spirit of Gold Country.
Tent camping. There's a large area under an oak that you can pitch your tent wherever you like!
Near the tent camping there's a lovely little grove of eucalyptus.
Nice hangout, meal area under another great oak tree
RV or camper van camping just above the kitchen. A fairly large rig could fit here and it's nice and level.
Big kitchen with everything you need

Sonora is named for the gold miners from Sonora, Mexico, who came to the region in 1848.
It will take a lot to dethrone this as chillest seat of 2016
If you look closely you can see a few signs of the treehouse. You can also see the seasonal fire pit and year-round hang out spot a stone's throw away.
None of the platforms of the treehouse are nailed to the tree itself. Trust me, it's sturdier than you would think.
The Treehouse has more functional room than one would think.
I'll take some shade with a side of light-show
