Learn more about this land: Come take a load off at this forested Richmond retreat overlooking Reedy Creek. Set up a tent, car camp, or bring your small trailer to one of two sites on a unique property backed up to 20+ acres of woods. Imagine a hidden gem where you can relax to the sounds of rushing water and chirping birds, but can walk or bike to coffee shops, breweries, restaurants, parks or the river. If you are coming into Richmond for a Brown's Island event we are a five minute Uber to an access point using the Potterfield walking bridge (it's a beautiful walk across the James River to the island). Each campsite includes 3 level spots to pitch tents (see dimensions below), and a connected space to park one car, van or small trailer. The large parking space can be used as a fourth tent footprint if needed. There are additional parking spaces. Each site has a fire pit (with firewood on site), a grate to grill over the fire, a picnic table, and a hammock. There is a shared outbuilding with a composting toilet, hand washing sink, outdoor shower (solar warmed), and space to change privately.  Campsite W ~  Tent footprints: 1) 10' x 12' 2) 10' x 13' 3) 9' x 10' Campsite E ~ Tent footprints: 1) 15'x16' 2) 10' x 15' 3) 9' x 10' **Pricing is based on groups of up to four adults or two adults with children. For groups of five to seven adults there is an additional charge of $10 person per day. For groups of eight or more we suggest you reserve both sites and have the entire camp to yourselves. Campsites W and E are about 80' apart. Both are around 100' to the creek. The spots can accommodate a total length (towing vehicle plus trailer) of up to 35 ft. There is an outdoor spigot with potable water and hoses for clean up. The woodlands and creek adjacent to the campsites have trails that are accessible to the public. You and your furry friends are welcome to use these paths, but know that others may be using them too. Richmond has so much to offer and we are just a hop, skip, and a jump to many wonderful attractions - kayak or sunbathe on the James River, walk or bike on trails around the city, rock climb, dine, imbibe. PLEASE NOTE* These sites are on a private property with a house that is visible to campers, but we give our guests complete privacy and don't plan to interact unless you need something from us. While you are on a 2 acre property backed up to a 20 acre wooded area, we are still in the middle of the city and you will hear city sounds. This is a safe space. Learn more about this land: Nestle on the Pamunkey Indian Reservation also known for Spiritual Healing that overlooks the Pamunkey River. The Pamunkey people have been here for over 10,000 years making this area one of the oldest reservations in the country. We have a small platform sitting right on the water for privacy and beautiful views of the river. You may see Bald Eagles, Grey Herons, Ducks, Geese, River Otters, and so much more. During low tide, the water is pulled back into the main part of the river and this is where you will see the wildlife during this time. There are up to 8 Bald Eagles here at a time and during the Spring to Fall, you will see Osprey hunting for food right in front of you and usually getting chased by the Eagles. What an awesome site to be able to camp and be a part of so many creatures all in their natural habitat. We live right up the hill.  Depending on where your tent is located, you may or may not see our home.  Usually you cannot but want you to be aware.  When you are camping, we respect your space and privacy to the fullest. During the full moon, the water on the campsite will rise and you will need to camp closer to the land.  Also, when the tied is out, you will not be able to launch the canoe or kayak. There is a short path to walk and it is a very short incline.   Please note that hunting season starts in October, and you may hear the noise.

To the east is Montpelier and to the west is Louisa, both have all the modern stores and conveniences along with some country charm. You will park near the trailhead and it is a 2 minute walk down a wooded trail. The cabin is one room with a loft. There is a queen size memory foam bed in the loft (up a ladder) and a small wood stove with a cooktop for chilly nights that will keep you toasty warm. Welcome!

Tucked into the woods, the farm is peaceful and private. There are walking paths through the woods and a creek to explore. You are welcome to visit the animals. The farm is about halfway between Richmond and Charlottesville. We are about 15 miles from the James River at Maidens. There is a super hip farmstand (like a mini Whole Foods) and an old fashioned country store 2 miles up the road and a good Mexican place about 15 minutes away. To the east is Montpelier and to the west is Louisa, both have all the modern stores and conveniences along with some country charm. You will park near the trailhead and it is a 2 minute walk down a wooded trail. The cabin is one room with a loft. There is a queen size memory foam bed in the loft (up a ladder) and a small wood stove with a cooktop for chilly nights that will keep you toasty warm. Welcome!

Peace and quiet equals “Solitude at my farm. I’m just like you. I want to camp at a quiet place in the country where it’s plenty of acres and no houses to look at and a clean bathroom and shower. Well it’s here. I’m Located in Wakefield Virginia. If you’re traveling to Virginia Beach I’m one hour away. From my farm there is a free ferry in Scotland where the ferry departs to Williamsburg just 30 minutes. At my farm I have 5 sites for tent/camping so it’s spaced appropriately apart I have 2 Rv sites totally away for their privacy and a new mini house also properly spaced away. All have a clean picnic table and a fire pit. 100 feet away you’ll find that clean bathroom, shower and a wash station for hygiene. You’ll see the love I put into this and because I love it and my prior guests love it, which means it may be right for you also. In the town of Wakefield you’ll find gas stations, dollar stores, a Value food market and if you want (to go) food we have that also. Plus it’s home to The Virginia Diner. Amenities include toilet access, a shower, trash disposal, picnic tables, and potable water. Pets are allowed, as are campfires.

Wonderful campsite! Peaceful and nature-ific; such a delight right in the city. Loved the included wood on site and hammock. Absolutely recommend and would come back. Note that the city noises at night (which host is transparent about) are real; there are trains with blaring horns every night several times, so just bring your ear plugs. There are also coyotes, abundant birdsong and the babbling creek to listen to :)

This is a wonderful location tucked away in the city. A hidden gem. Everything is provided for you to include a bathroom and showers and a lot of firewood. Campsite E was very big and had many places to pitch a tent. We chose to car camp, but was still very close to the campsite itself. It has a play ground for children and a privacy fence to block you from the other campsite. The hammock is a nice touch, plenty of tables and chairs. Watching the sunrise over the creek in the morning was amazing.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was exactly what I was looking. Peace and quiet (except for the thousands of geese, but their ruckus was peaceful as well). Allyn and Duane were wonderful hosts, ensuring I had everything I needed and the privacy I desired. There was a burn ban issued two days before my arrival and they graciously supplied me with charcoal and even a little charcoal grill! The sunsets were beautiful, the night sky amazing and the eagle sightings were plentiful! Bring binoculars if you come. You'll get amazing views. All in all, a wonderful trip and I plan on coming annually for the foreseeable future. Thanks Allyn and Duane! Oh, and opt in for the outdoor shower! It was amazing and the view incredible.

Overview

About

Richmond's history starts with the American Revolution. But it was the Civil War that brought Virginia's largest city to the forefront. Richmond served as the capital of the Confederacy, which made it the ultimate prize for Union forces.

This battlefield's significance is not just about the climactic burning of Richmond. The national monument is more about the legacy of Richmond through a pivotal time in American history. This happens through 11 different sites on 763 acres within the city.

The park pays homage to the men and women, Confederate and Union, African-American and Caucasian, who sacrificed themselves in the name of a cause. Tour the old Tredegar Iron Works, where artifacts from the Civil War are on display. Three separate battlefields bring the time period to life. Each battlefield gives you a glimpse of how much Richmond struggled to survive for three years. The city was under pressure from advancing Federal troops moving from Washington.

See miles of original fortifications, from simple trenches to incredibly complex forts. One site shows how Union troops tried to break through to Richmond by sailing up the James River in 1862. Several lengthy campaigns followed.
