Hilltop with views of the mountains facing east and west. Close to Harrisonburg. Several areas to camp in, take your pick. Nice shady wooded area overlooking Joes Creek. Be happy to give you a tour of the mushroom farm. Learn more about this land: The wooded area is next to my house. There's about 4 acres to explore and a gravel road rarely traveled for a nice walk to a view for a great sunset.  Harrisonburg is 5 minutes from here and has lots of night life, micro breweries etc. I have long power cords if you need electric at the campsite. You may hear owls hooting at night.  The campsite is under white pines with a thick bed of pine needles. There are several campsites under the red cedar trees that are naturally bug and mosquito resistant.     Shenandoah National Park is about 45 minutes away if you go to the 33 entrance and 45 minutes away to go to the Luray entrance. Lots of bears there and hikes to waterfalls. No hunting there.  Solar panels provide half of my energy needs. GW National forest has lots of hiking and mt biking and is half an hour away. Great views of the mountains from the  campsite area.  I'm dedicated to having lots of native plants and trees. I do not spray any pesticides.  Plenty of free firewood. Not too far off interstate 81.  I give tours of the mushroom farm whenever the weather isn't below freezing. I don't recommend anything larger than a conversion van. Very small pull behind campers are OK . All campers are required to leave every day from 1 to 5. Belongings may be kept here. There is a bathroom inside the house. No showers , please guys relieve yourself behind a tree instead of tying up a bathroom .. Harpine Highway is nearby and does have some trafffic noise but it's not close enough to discourage most campers.

Happy Travelling!! It has been real!! We are not currently accepting but stay tuned!!!! My late fiancé, Renee, said it best a few days before she passed on Aug 25, 2025: "WE HAVE HAD A GOOD TIME" Enjoying 8 acres of the simpler life with our children and farm animals. See us on Facebook!! The last 4 years of hosting have been an adventure! We’ve met many guests, listened to suggestions, and often worked all night on property improvements. We are grateful for the opportunity to introduce country life and the Shenandoah Valley to travelers from around the world. We built an all-season full capacity hot shower bathhouse with flush toilet, A-frame cabin, bigger electrical service, and wider road entrance for 30ft RVs, and Wi-Fi. We are located 45 minutes from the Shenandoah National Park. If you are a hiker or outdoor adventure seeker, or just want to experience local culture and history, please reach out to us and we will help you plan your trip. Spend a quiet weekend enjoying the peaceful pastures of our farmette. We have friendly cows, mini goats, chickens, a horse, a kitty, a farm dog, and are frequented by deer in the morning and evening. If you are lucky, you may spot the great blue heron, Mr. Todd Fox, or the bald eagle pair fly over. The stars are incredible here on a clear night. Our campsite is a peaceful and secluded spot nestled on a small hilltop overlooking our Big Red Barn and a wilder wooded area. There is excellent bird watching. The campsite is 100 yards from the parking spot in front of our barn. There is a large wooden picnic table and a fire pit.

South River Camp

Welcome to South River Camp: Where Nature Is Real and Expectations Are Optional If you’re dreaming of a glamping getaway where the birds file noise complaints against themselves and the rest of the world disappears beyond a 50-mile radius… well, this isn’t that place. At South River Camp, we celebrate actual nature — chirping birds, babbling water, star-filled skies, and yes, a few passing cars from the nearby bridge and adjoining roads. You might even catch a distant train whistle about half a mile away. (Darn Norfolk Southern Railway.) We’re tucked along the beautiful South River in the Shenandoah Valley, where comfort and nature meet in perfect balance — yet remain conveniently close to civilization. Sip your coffee by the river, roast marshmallows under the stars, and let nature do its thing — without filing a noise complaint against a frog choir. ⸻ A Few “Concerns” to Clear Up • “This isn’t off-grid.” If your idea of off-grid is 100 miles from civilization and reachable only by carrier pigeon, then sure — we’re not that. But there’s no power, no running water, no gas line, and nothing tied into municipal infrastructure. We’re powered by nature, not a utility bill. So yes, we’re off-grid — just not your wool-socks-and-Birkenstocks version of it. (Though, for the record, we wear Birkenstocks too.) • “We were seen in towels.” Hmmm… which is why we gently suggest skipping the towel parades through camp. Our enclosed shower stalls are there for a reason: shower, dry off, then get dressed before rejoining the great outdoors. • “It was in somebody’s backyard.” Sorry — our two acres aren’t tucked away in the middle of a federally protected reserve in the middle of nowhere. But our closest neighbor is nearly 300 feet away, and we happen to think riverside camping with a little civilization nearby is a pretty great trade-off. ⸻ If those realities feel unacceptable, we wish you luck finding a soundproof, neighbor-free, bird-mute utopia. But if you’re after a laid-back, laughter-filled, and unapologetically outdoor getaway on the banks of the South River — welcome. You’ve found it. Don’t forget your robe.

3/5/26. Spring has sprung! Plenty of free firewood at this time. You might need some fire starter because it sits unprotected. Camp is wooded acreage centrally located between Massanutten Resort and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Currently very, very basic with improvements happening weekly. Currently 2WD is okay and some clearance preferred like Outback sized vehicles over all. A van can fit in site #3 but will take a multi point turns to come and go. Country vibe but close to restaurants, and outdoor activities near by such as mountain biking, road biking, hiking, skiing/boarding, and the floating/fishing on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. A safe / legal place to park for the night. SUP and Kayaks available free to campers upon request most days April 15 to Oct 15 Bring a sticker for our collection! -Massanutten Ski Slope 7 mins (resort entrance 2 mins) -Western Slope mountain biking, hiking 15mins or local beginner biking and hiking trails 6mins (great for any kid age) in Elkton - Blue Ridge Parkway 12mins -groceries and gas 3mins -lake type float or paddling on dammed river 12 mins.

We love animals, planting gardens, preserving quality food, and hiking in both of the world-famous national parks here.
